Fall, from October into early December, brings cooler weather, lower humidity, and comfortable camping conditions. Several miles of easy, interconnected trails wind through pecan groves, hardwood bottoms, and open meadows along the Brazos River. Trailheads connect directly to the campground, so RVers can walk from their site.
The park offers bank fishing access to the Brazos River, where anglers target catfish, largemouth bass, and sunfish. A Texas fishing license is not required to fish from shore within the state park.
Adjacent to the park, this historic site interprets the early Anglo-American colony founded by Stephen F. Austin. A modern museum, replica buildings, and walking paths tell the story of Texas before the revolution.
The mix of river bottomland, open fields, and wooded areas supports herons, hawks, woodpeckers, and migratory songbirds. Early morning and evening near the river offer the best viewing.
Shaded picnic areas with tables and grills sit beneath mature pecan and oak trees. Many sites are accessible by paved roads with pull-through parking suitable for tow vehicles.
The park participates in the Texas State Parks geocaching program, with caches hidden throughout the grounds. It is a family-friendly way to explore trails and historic areas on foot.
Flat, paved park roads are well suited to casual cycling and connecting between the campground, picnic areas, and trailheads. Traffic is light, especially on weekdays.
Just came back from Lake Livingston. Had a blast. The RV was everything we wanted and more. And the owner was friendly and helpful. Walked me through everything. And made it all simple for me. Definitely renting from them again!!!

Tee RV was exactly as described and just what we needed to take our Aunt and Uncle on a "bucket list" trip. Josh was truly helpful and honest and very easy to communicate with. If all our rental experiences were as this one was , we wouldn't own anything, just rent!!

Great experience renting from Josh! He was friendly, responsive, and made the whole process very easy. The RV had everything we needed and was exactly as described. Josh also took the time to explain everything during the walkthrough, which made us feel very comfortable before the trip. Highly recommend renting from him!

Stephen F. Austin State Park, TX, United States
The park sits just off Interstate 10 near San Felipe, about a one-hour drive from downtown Houston and roughly two and a half hours from Austin. Access is via Park Road 38 off FM 1458, a flat rural route with no tunnels, mountain passes, or significant grades, making it easy for RVs of most sizes. Watch for tight turns on the local farm-to-market roads and low-water crossings after heavy rain, and note that the Brazos River floodplain can be affected by prolonged wet weather. The nearest major airport for fly-and-rent trips is George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, with Houston Hobby and Austin-Bergstrom also within reasonable driving distance.
