Late spring through early fall, roughly May to September, offers the warmest, driest weather and the calmest paddling conditions in Trincomali Channel. July and August are peak months for boaters and kayakers, so arriving early in the day is recommended if seeking dock or anchorage space. March through May is a strong shoulder season, with wildflowers and the best botanical viewing on the island. Winter visits are possible but rainy, with unpredictable weather and stronger currents that RV travelers should factor into any crossing plans.

A series of flat, well-maintained walking trails runs the length of the island, linking Conover Cove to Chivers Point at the north end. The route passes forested groves, open meadows, and viewpoints over Trincomali Channel. Views include the folded rock formations that compose the island. bcparks.ca/explore/parkpgs/wallace/
Chivers Point and Cabin Bay are ideal for kayak camping, with walk-in tent sites set just above the shoreline. Paddlers can launch from Saltspring Island, Galiano Island, Duncan, or Ladysmith to reach them. Be prepared for potentially strong currents and unpredictable weather. bcparks.ca/explore/parkpgs/wallace/
Conover Cove offers a small dock, stern tie rings, and anchorage in a sheltered bay. The entrance is shallow at low tide, so boaters must time their approach carefully. A picnic shelter and open grass fields provide day-use space ashore. bcparks.ca/explore/parkpgs/wallace/
Wallace Island offers reliable wildlife viewing from both shore and water. Bald eagles, black-tailed deer, and mink are common on land, while harbour seals, sea lions, and river otters are often spotted offshore. bcparks.ca/wallace-island-marine-park/
The waters surrounding the park support saltwater fishing, subject to periodic closures. Rockfish Conservation Areas occur within the park, where fishing activities are limited. Anglers must hold a valid BC tidal fishing licence and check current DFO regulations before heading out. bcparks.ca/explore/parkpgs/wallace/
Twisted fruit trees mark the remnants of a garden and orchard planted by Jeremiah Chivers, a Scotsman who retired to the island in the 19th century. Visitors can also see traces of the later Royal Cedar Cottages resort developed by David and Jeanne Conover after 1946. Interpretive context is available via BC Parks signage. bcparks.ca/wallace-island-marine-park/
Princess Cove provides a dinghy dock and stern tie rings in a sheltered anchorage separate from Conover Cove. It is a quieter alternative for sailboats and cruisers arriving at busy times. A short trail connects the cove to the main island trail network. bcparks.ca/explore/parkpgs/wallace/

Wallace Island Marine Provincial Park, BC, Canada
The park is only accessible by boat, so RV travelers drive to a launch point on Vancouver Island or a neighbouring Gulf Island and cross by private boat, water taxi, or kayak. Common staging points include Ladysmith and Duncan on Vancouver Island, about a 45 to 75 minute drive north of Victoria, and Galiano or Saltspring Island, reached via BC Ferries from Swartz Bay or Tsawwassen. RVers should confirm ferry vehicle height and length limits in advance, watch for steep ferry ramps at low tide, and plan for narrow, winding island roads. The nearest major airport for fly-and-rent trips is Victoria International Airport (YYJ), with Nanaimo and Vancouver (YVR) as larger alternatives.
