Campgrounds and RV parks near Comox, BC

The Comox Valley is built around water and forest. Beach access is easy: Goose Spit, Kye Bay, and the shoreline at Miracle Beach Provincial Park all offer tide pools, sandbars, and long stretches for walking at low tide. Kayaking, paddleboarding, and salmon fishing are common in the protected waters of the Strait of Georgia. Inland, Seal Bay Regional Park has kilometres of walking and cycling trails through second-growth forest, and Cumberland's trail network is a well-known mountain biking destination. Mount Washington Alpine Resort, about a 45-minute drive west, offers hiking and lift-served activity in summer and skiing in winter. In town, visitors can explore the Filberg Heritage Lodge grounds, the Courtenay and District Museum, and local farmers' markets that run through the warmer months.

Peak camping season runs from late May through mid-September, when daytime highs settle in the low twenties Celsius and rainfall drops sharply. July is among the driest months in Comox, and August is the warmest, which is why private parks and Miracle Beach fill quickly on summer weekends and around the BC Day long weekend in early August. Spring and fall are quieter shoulder seasons. Miracle Beach Provincial Park's campground is open March 1 to November 30, with peak operations from March 20 to October 31 and reduced winter service on either side. Elk Falls and Fillongley run a similar peak schedule, while some smaller provincial sites in the region close earlier in the fall. Salmon spawning in local rivers and creeks, including Black Creek at Miracle Beach, draws visitors in October and early November. Winter camping is possible at year-round private parks such as Seal Bay RV Park. Expect frequent rain, cool but rarely freezing temperatures at sea level, and snow at Mount Washington elevations.

Roads in and around Comox are generally easy for RV drivers. Highway 19 is the main north-south route with wide lanes and predictable grades, while Highway 19A along the coast is slower and more scenic. Traffic is light outside of commuting hours in Courtenay. Private parks in the area typically offer full hookups with 30-amp and 50-amp power, water, sewer, and Wi-Fi. Seal Bay RV Park has around 150 full-service sites on 20 acres next to Seal Bay Regional Park. Provincial park sites at Miracle Beach are non-serviced and set under a dense forest canopy, with a sani-station on site and no hookups. Black bears, deer, raccoons, and eagles are common in the valley. Standard food storage, leashed pets, and awareness of BC fire bans, which are frequent in July and August, are expected.
