Campgrounds near Cannington, Ontario
Cannington sits in Brock Township in Ontario's Durham Region, roughly an hour and a half northeast of Toronto and a short drive from the southeastern shore of Lake Simcoe. The area is a mix of farmland, small lakes, and mixed forest, and it functions as a practical base for RV travellers heading to Lake Simcoe beaches, the Trent-Severn Waterway, and the Kawarthas.
Campground options within a short drive include Cedar Valley Resort and Grangeways RV Park and Family Campground, both privately operated parks geared to families and seasonal RV stays, plus Fair Havens Family Camp on Lake Simcoe and Alpine RV Resort. For a provincial-park experience, Sibbald Point Provincial Park is a recreational park on Lake Simcoe near Sutton West, with year-round day use, seasonal camping, group camping, a large sandy beach, boating, trails, and historic Eildon Hall, west of Cannington.
Private parks in the area typically offer full or partial hookups, seasonal sites, and family amenities such as pools and playgrounds, while Sibbald Point provides a larger, more traditional car-camping layout with electric and non-electric loops.
Things to do near Cannington
Lake Simcoe is the main draw. Sibbald Point Provincial Park has long sand beaches, sunny and shaded campsites, large grassy picnic areas and a forested hiking trail, and it is a popular swimming and day-use spot for families. Boating, fishing for pike, bass, and perch, and paddling are common on both Lake Simcoe and the smaller lakes in Brock and Kawartha Lakes townships.
On shore, families can walk the Beaver River Wetland Trail, part of the Trans Canada Trail, or drive to nearby Uxbridge for mountain biking on the Durham Forest and Walker Woods trails. Sibbald Point also runs interpretive programs in summer, and the historic 1877 Anglican church and a cemetery where visitors will find the grave of author Stephen Leacock sit adjacent to the park.

Camping season in this part of Ontario runs from spring through mid-fall. Sibbald Point is open year-round for day use, with camping only offered between May and October. Most private parks near Cannington follow a similar May-to-October window, though a few offer limited shoulder-season stays.
Summer is peak. July and August bring warm lake temperatures, full campgrounds, and heavy weekend demand from the Greater Toronto Area. Long weekends including Canada Day, the August Civic Holiday, and Labour Day book out months ahead, and while first-come, first-served sites are a possibility in spring and fall, visitors are unlikely to find anything available without booking ahead, and on summer holidays including Canada Day and Labour Day even parking spots are hard to come by.
Spring and fall are quieter and cooler. Blackflies emerge in mid-spring and mosquitoes peak in late spring, so bug protection matters through June. September delivers stable weather, colourful hardwoods, and easier reservations, making it a strong choice for RV renters who want space at the beach and on the trails.

We used it for our family reunion. It was excellent, we were comfortable, everything we needed was there. We loved it.

As first-time RVers, we booked Tim and Jay’s Thor Motor Coach specifically to experience RV living, and they made the entire process seamless from start to finish. Right from the offset, Tim provided a thorough walkthrough and walkthrough brief so we felt confident before hitting the road. The RV was fully equipped with all the essentials, down to the small details like extra napkins and supplies, which saved us so much hassle. Even when we ran into a quick issue mid-trip and had to reach out, Jay responded with top-tier customer service and resolved everything smoothly and patiently. They genuinely cared about our experience and went above and beyond for us. If you’re looking for a reliable, fully stocked RV with incredible hosts, look no further. Highly recommended!

How to book a campsite
Sibbald Point's camping facilities are booked via the Ontario Parks website, online or by phone. Reservations are accepted up to five months in advance of the arrival date; for example, a January 15 booking date corresponds to a June 15 arrival, and popular summer weekends are typically claimed within minutes of the window opening at 7:00 a.m. ET. A limited number of first-come, first-served sites can be available in spring and fall, but relying on them in July or August is risky.
Private campgrounds near Cannington, including Cedar Valley Resort, Fair Havens Family Camp, Grangeways RV Park and Family Campground, and Alpine RV Resort, are booked directly through each park's own website or office. Many of these parks fill seasonal sites early in the year and hold a smaller pool of transient RV sites, so contacting the park well ahead of a summer trip is recommended.
What to expect on arrival
Sibbald Point is one of Ontario Parks' largest campgrounds, with 604 campsites; 284 are electrical and 296 are radio-free zone sites, spread across ten camping areas split between a West Campground and an East Campground. The RV length limit at the campground is 32 ft (10 m); larger rigs should contact the park ahead to confirm space. Facilities include an information centre, flush toilets and showers, vault toilets, drinking water, sani-stations, picnic shelters, and a boat launch.
Private parks in the Cannington area lean family-oriented, with pools, playgrounds, and organized activities alongside RV hookups. Cell coverage is generally reliable in the region, but interior sites in the forested loops at Sibbald Point can be spotty. Expect busy check-in lines on Friday afternoons in summer and plan grocery stops in Cannington, Beaverton, or Sutton before entering the park.

Pro tip: weekday nights are usually cheaper than weekend stays.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Cannington,OntarioWhat kind of driver's license do I need to rent an RV in Cannington?
Good news: a standard full Class G Ontario driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Cannington for almost every motorhome and trailer on RVezy. In Ontario, Class A, B, and C motorhomes can be driven on a regular G license, with no special endorsement or air brakes ticket required for typical rental units. Visiting from another province, a US state, or overseas? Your home driver's license is generally valid in Ontario for short visits. Renters must be 25 or older and complete a quick ID verification through the RVezy platform. That's it, you're ready to roll toward Lake Simcoe.

You choose your preferred protection level during checkout (not the host), so you can pick what fits your comfort and budget. The plan provides meaningful financial protection that takes a huge weight off first-timers renting an RV in Cannington. If a tire goes flat on the way to Sibbald Point or a fridge stops cooling at MacLeod Park, one call gets help dispatched. You focus on the smallmouth bass, RVezy handles the worry.

Booking is low-risk: RVezy applies a clear cancellation policy to every rental, with refund eligibility based on how far ahead you cancel. Cancellation terms are set by RVezy, not by individual hosts, so the same fair process applies whether you're renting a campervan for a Beaverton fishing weekend or a Class C for a longer Trent-Severn Waterway loop. If a host needs to cancel, RVezy helps you find a replacement RV or provides a refund. If your plans shift, reach out to RVezy support and they'll walk you through your options.

Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm any pet fees and to ask about their favourite local dog-friendly patios.

Delivery fees are set by the host and typically scale with distance. Filter by Delivery on the search page, and you can show up with groceries and a swimsuit while the campervan rental Cannington setup is done for you.

reservations.ontarioparks.ca/When is the best time to rent an RV in Cannington?

June brings green countryside and quieter campgrounds, while September offers warm days, cooler nights (great for campfires), and dramatic fall colour along the Beaver River into early October. Winter RVing is possible too, the Lake Simcoe area is known for ice fishing, and a four-season RV parked near Beaverton Harbour puts you steps from the action. climate.weather.gc.ca/climate_normals/I've never rented an RV before, will I actually know what I'm doing?
You'll be fine, and you won't be left to figure it out alone. Every RVezy host in Cannington provides a full walkthrough at pickup, showing you how to operate the propane, water pump, awning, slide-outs, generator, and waste tanks in plain English. Most first-timers feel confident within 30 minutes. If you're nervous about driving, start with a Class B campervan or a smaller travel trailer, both handle much like a large SUV on Highway 12 and Regional Road 23. Hosts answer messages quickly before, during, and after your trip. Pro tip: ask for delivery on your first time renting an RV, you can practice everything at the campsite before driving anywhere.

Help is one phone call away. 24/7 roadside assistance is included with every RVezy booking in Cannington at no extra cost. Whether you have a flat on Highway 12, a dead battery at Beaverton Harbour, or you've locked the keys inside outside the Cannington Foodland, dispatch will send qualified help your way. For mechanical issues, your host is also a direct lifeline and usually answers quickly. RVezy's customer support team is reachable before, during, and after your trip. Brock Township is a well-serviced area with tow operators in Beaverton, Sunderland, and Lindsay, so you're never truly off-grid.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Cannington RV rental across the border to the US?
Cross-border trips from Cannington to the US are sometimes possible, but only with explicit host approval before you book, because insurance must be arranged for travel outside Canada. Message the host directly from the listing to confirm, and ask about the closest crossings: the Thousand Islands Bridge near Gananoque (about 2.5 hours east) and Queenston-Lewiston near Niagara Falls (about 2.5 hours south) are the most popular routes. Travel to Mexico is not allowed on RVezy rentals due to insurance restrictions. For most renters, an Ontario-only road trip through Muskoka, Algonquin, or Prince Edward County offers more than enough adventure.

Fuel is one of the bigger trip costs, but it's easy to estimate. In central Ontario, gasoline typically runs around $1.45 to $1.70 CAD per litre, with stations in Cannington along Highway 12 often a few cents cheaper than Toronto. Expect a Class B campervan to get 11 to 14 L/100 km, a Class C around 18 to 22 L/100 km, and a Class A about 25 to 30 L/100 km. A 4-day Lake Simcoe loop of roughly 400 km in a Class C costs about $130 to $160 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up in Beaverton or Sunderland before heading north into Muskoka, where prices climb.
