Campgrounds near Minto
Minto is a municipality in Wellington County, Ontario, made up of the communities of Harriston, Palmerston and Clifford in the northern part of the county. It sits within a short drive of the Kitchener-Waterloo region and serves as a practical base for RV travellers exploring inland Grey and Wellington counties.
Campground options within a reasonable drive include private RV resorts and a Saugeen Valley conservation area. Shamadon RV Resort near Ayton offers full-hookup sites on a large rural property with cement pads and big-rig access. Silent Valley, a Parkbridge Cottage and RV Resort, sits within a large forested tract with a spring-fed lake and sandy beach, roughly fifteen minutes from Mount Forest, Neustadt and Durham. Saugeen Cedars Family Campground and Driftwood Beach Park round out the private options, with Driftwood set on Lakelet Lake.
For a public-land experience, Durham Conservation Area protects over 60 hectares along the Saugeen River, including scenic McGowan Falls and roughly 4 km of trail.
Things to do near Minto
The area is built around river, lake and trail activity. Durham Conservation Area offers hiking, swimming in a river reservoir above the McGowan Falls dam, and a disc golf course that is included with day-use and camping fees. Trails follow the Saugeen River across limestone bedrock outcrops and can be walked, snowshoed or cross-country skied in season.
Private resorts add family amenities that suit RV travellers with kids. Shamadon RV Resort has a heated pool, sandy beach at a swimming pond, fishing hole, nature trails, dog park and playground. Silent Valley provides a sandy beach on its spring-fed lake, catch-and-release fishing, a pool, hiking trails and a soccer field. Driftwood Beach Park sits directly on Lakelet Lake for swimming and fishing.

The main RV season runs from late spring through Canadian Thanksgiving in October. Silent Valley operates from Victoria Day to Thanksgiving, and most private resorts in the area follow a similar frame. Bookings for July and August fill early, and Ontario Parks and conservation authorities recommend reserving well in advance.
Mount Forest and the surrounding highlands sit at higher elevation than most of southern Ontario, so nights stay noticeably cooler than lakeshore areas and lake-effect snow off Lake Huron can be significant through winter. Spring is muddy and cool, with river levels high after snowmelt; late June through August brings the warmest, driest camping. September and early October deliver cool nights and colour along the Saugeen River.
Winter camping is available at Durham Conservation Area, which offers roughly 30 serviced and 30 unserviced sites with winterized facilities from mid-November into late March.

How to book
Reservations for Durham Conservation Area open online February 1 each year through the Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority reservation system, and the campground can be booked from that date through Thanksgiving. Winter sites are reserved through the same system. During camping season, the park office at Durham can also be reached by phone.
Private resorts are booked directly through their own websites or by phone. Shamadon RV Resort takes reservations through its site, and Silent Valley handles both seasonal and overnight bookings through Parkbridge. For long weekends and July and August dates, book several months out; sites at popular Ontario campgrounds routinely sell out during peak season.
What to expect
Expect a rural southwestern Ontario setting: farm country, small towns, river valleys and mixed forest rather than rugged wilderness. Grocery stores, fuel and basic supplies are available in Harriston, Palmerston, Mount Forest and Durham, most within a short drive of the campgrounds listed.
Private resorts in the area lean family-oriented, with full-hookup pull-through and back-in sites, cement pads at some parks, laundry, showers, playgrounds and pools. Shamadon is big-rig friendly with 30 and 50 amp service on more than 100 sites. Conservation area sites include a mix of serviced and unserviced options with more basic facilities.
Bring insect repellent for June and July, layers for cool evenings even in midsummer, and check local fire ban status before arrival. Firewood should generally be bought locally to avoid moving pests between regions.

Some hosts charge a small pet cleaning fee, which is clearly listed before you book. Pro tip: message the host through the listing to confirm any size or breed preferences, and pack a portable water bowl since summer afternoons in Minto regularly hit 26 C.

Yes, RV delivery in Minto is offered by many RVezy hosts and it is the easiest way to start your trip, especially if you are new to towing. Filter by Delivery on RVezy and you will see hosts who can drop the RV at your campground, cottage, or driveway in Harriston, Palmerston, Clifford, or Minto itself. They will level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before handing over the keys. Delivery fees are set by each host and typically scale with distance. Pro tip: delivery is a game-changer if you are heading to a spot like Conestogo Lake Conservation Area, because you can skip the backing-in stress and start your trip with a cold drink in hand.

Pro tip: if you're planning a longer Ontario loop, message the host before booking to negotiate a higher included kilometre allowance, especially for week-long road trips from Minto out to Georgian Bay.
ontario.ca/page/get-around-ontarioWhere are the best campgrounds near Minto, Ontario?
You have excellent options within 30 to 75 minutes of Minto. Conestogo Lake Conservation Area (about 35 minutes south) offers waterfront sites with electrical hookups and great swimming. Saugeen Bluffs Conservation Area near Paisley (about 50 minutes northwest) is a peaceful riverside park with serviced sites and equestrian trails. Mount Forest area private parks are closer and family-friendly. For RV camping a little further afield, MacGregor Point Provincial Park on Lake Huron (about 75 minutes) has electrical sites and stunning sunsets. Pro tip: book conservation area sites through Grand River Conservation Authority or Saugeen Conservation, and provincial parks through Ontario Parks reservations up to five months in advance for summer weekends.
reservations.ontarioparks.ca/When is the best time of year to rent an RV in Minto?
Late May through early October is prime time for an RV rental in Minto, Ontario, with July and August offering warm days around 24-27°C and comfortable evenings around 14°C. June is a sweet spot: long daylight (sunset near 9 PM), fewer mosquitoes than July, and lower nightly rates. September brings spectacular fall colour along the Maitland and Saugeen Rivers with crisp 18°C afternoons. Winter rentals are available from select hosts with four-season rigs, but most campgrounds in Wellington County close from mid-October to mid-May. Pro tip: time your trip with the Minto Mighty Music Festival or the Palmerston Heritage Day in summer for a true small-town Ontario experience you won't get anywhere else.
climate.weather.gc.ca/I have never rented an RV before. What support do I get in Minto?
First time renting an RV? You are in great hands. Every Minto host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup (typically 30 to 60 minutes) covering propane, water hookups, slide-outs, generator, and the dump procedure. You can message your host directly from the listing before booking with any questions, and most respond within hours. On the road, RVezy 24/7 roadside assistance is one call away, and the support team is available before, during, and after your trip. Pro tip: Minto quiet rural roads around Harriston and Clifford are perfect for getting comfortable behind the wheel before tackling busier routes like Highway 6 toward Owen Sound.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if I break down during my Minto RV trip?
You are never stranded. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, covering common needs like tire changes, jump-starts, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing across Wellington County and beyond. One phone call dispatches help whether you are on Highway 89 near Harriston or deeper into the Bruce Peninsula. Your host is also a direct resource for quirks specific to their rig, like a finicky awning or generator start sequence. Pro tip: before leaving Minto, snap photos of the propane tank gauge and tire pressure stickers, and save the RVezy support number in your phone. It is a five-minute habit that turns any hiccup into a minor footnote on an otherwise great trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Minto RV rental across the US border or to other provinces?
Cross-border and inter-provincial trips from Minto are often possible, but it depends on the host and their insurance, so message them through the listing before booking to confirm. Travel to the USA (popular runs include crossing at Sarnia for Michigan's Upper Peninsula or Niagara for New York's Finger Lakes) is allowed by many hosts with prior approval. Heading east to Quebec or west across the Prairies is usually fine too. One firm rule: travel to Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because insurance doesn't extend there. Pro tip: if you're planning an RV road trip from Minto into the US, bring passports for all travellers, proof of rental authorization from your host, and check CBP wait times at your chosen crossing before you go.
cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/menu-eng.htmlHow much should I budget for fuel on a Minto RV trip?
Fuel is one of your biggest variables, but it's predictable. Class B campervans average 18-22 L/100km, Class C motorhomes around 22-28 L/100km, and larger Class A rigs 28-35 L/100km. Towable travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle. Gas prices in Wellington County typically run a few cents below the GTA, with stations in Harriston, Palmerston, and Mount Forest being your best local fill-ups. For a typical 4-day, 600 km loop from Minto to the Bruce Peninsula and back in a Class C, budget roughly $200-$260 CAD in fuel. Pro tip: fill up in Mount Forest before heading north, because prices climb noticeably once you pass Wiarton on the way to Tobermory.
ontario.ca/page/gasoline-pricesHow far in advance should I book campgrounds near Minto?
For Ontario Parks like MacGregor Point and Pinery, the reservation window opens exactly five months ahead, and prime summer weekends (especially Canada Day and Civic Holiday) book within the first hour. Grand River Conservation Authority parks like Conestogo Lake open bookings in January for the upcoming season. For shoulder-season trips in May, June, or September, you can often find weeknight availability just days ahead. Pro tip: if you're rolling into Minto last-minute, try private parks around Mount Forest and Drayton, or check Saugeen Conservation sites which tend to have more open mid-week inventory. Set a calendar alarm for the five-month mark when planning a summer family RV trip Minto-based travellers love.
reservations.ontarioparks.ca/What are driving conditions like around Minto?
Driving an RV around Minto is refreshingly easy. Wellington County roads are flat to gently rolling, well-maintained, and far less congested than the GTA. Highway 9 and Highway 89 are your main east-west routes, both two-lane with generous shoulders. Watch for slow-moving farm equipment (especially in spring planting and fall harvest), Mennonite horse-drawn buggies near Drayton and Wallenstein, and deer at dusk along rural stretches. Winter brings lake-effect snow squalls off Lake Huron from December through March, so most renters stick to May-October. Pro tip: avoid driving large rigs through downtown Harriston at Friday-evening rush, and use the Palmerston bypass instead. Knowing where to park an RV in Minto is simple: most fairgrounds, conservation areas, and big-box lots in Mount Forest are RV-friendly.
511on.ca/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Minto?
You'll find a good range of services. Full-hookup sites (water, 30/50-amp electrical, sewer) are standard at Conestogo Lake and MacGregor Point's serviced loops. Most Grand River Conservation parks offer flush toilets, hot showers, dump stations, and potable water fills, usually free for registered guests. Saugeen Bluffs and smaller private parks around Mount Forest typically have laundry, camp stores, and Wi-Fi at the office. For dump stations on the road, the Petro-Canada in Mount Forest and several conservation areas offer public access for a small fee ($10-$15). Pro tip: top up freshwater before leaving the campground each morning, because rural backroads between Minto and the Bruce don't have convenient fill stations.
grandriver.ca/en/outdoor-recreation/Camping.aspxWhat's actually inside a typical Minto RV rental?
More than you'd expect. Most Minto rentals come fully equipped: queen or king beds with linens (confirm with host), a kitchen with fridge/freezer, propane stove, microwave, sink, and basic cookware; a bathroom with toilet and shower; air conditioning and furnace; and seatbelted seating for the rig's sleep count. Many include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor awning, camp chairs, and a propane BBQ. Wi-Fi and onboard generators are common in Class C and Class A rigs but not universal in travel trailers. Pro tip: check the listing's amenity list and message the host to confirm specifics like a coffee maker or kids' booster seats. A motorhome rental Minto travellers love is one that arrives stocked, so you can shop groceries in Harriston and head straight to your site.
tc.canada.ca/en/road-transportationWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
Hosts in Minto often offer helpful add-ons that make your trip smoother: bedding/linen packages ($25-$60), kitchen kits, outdoor setups (chairs, mats, fire pit gear), bike racks, generators, and propane top-ups. Pickup is typically at the host's address in Minto, Harriston, Palmerston, or nearby Mount Forest, with a 30-60 minute walkthrough. Drop-off is usually at the same location with the tanks emptied and fuel topped to the level shown at pickup, though some hosts offer a refuel/dump service for a flat fee ($75-$150) if you'd rather skip that step. Pro tip: ask about the Festival-Friendly filter if you're heading to events like the Drayton Festival Theatre or Listowel Paddlefest, because some hosts have specific policies for event parking.
town.minto.on.ca/How does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is simple and secure: you pay through RVezy at booking with a credit card, and funds are held safely until your trip is complete, so there is no cash changing hands with the host. A refundable security deposit is pre-authorized on your card before pickup (not charged outright), with the amount set per listing. As long as you return the rig in the same condition with tanks and fuel as agreed, the hold is released after drop-off. Pro tip: do a quick walkaround video with your host at both pickup and drop-off in Minto. It is a five-minute habit that protects everyone and keeps your deposit return fast and stress-free.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhat are the best road trip destinations from Minto?
Minto sits in a sweet spot for Ontario road trips. Top picks: the Bruce Peninsula and Tobermory (about 2 hours north) for grotto hikes and turquoise water; Sauble Beach (90 minutes) for one of the world's longest freshwater beaches; Elora Gorge and the Elora Quarry (75 minutes south) for swimming and cliff views; Stratford (about 1 hour) for the Shakespeare Festival and incredible food; and Point Clark Lighthouse on Lake Huron (1 hour) for sunset photography. For a longer RV road trip from Minto, Algonquin Provincial Park's western Kearney gate is about 3 hours northeast. Pro tip: build a loop that ends with a stop at the Harriston Bakery on your way home. Locals swear by their butter tarts and it's the perfect last memory of your trip.
