Campgrounds and RV parks near North Scituate, MA

North Scituate sits on the South Shore of Massachusetts, about 25 miles southeast of Boston along the coast. The location gives RV travelers quick access to inland forest camping at Wompatuck State Park and to the Boston Harbor Islands, with Cape Cod and Plymouth within an easy drive. The closest full-service campground is Wompatuck State Park in nearby Hingham, a large state-run campground with about 260 sites, roughly half of which offer electric hookups. Camping in the Boston Harbor Islands National and State Park is limited to Peddocks Island and is tent and yurt only, reached by passenger ferry from the Hingham Shipyard. The other harbor islands listed nearby, Boston Harbor Islands - Bumpkin Island, Boston Harbor Islands - Grape Island, and Boston Harbor Islands - Thompson Island, are day-use stops and pair well with a base camp at Wompatuck. RV travelers should plan to park the rig at Wompatuck and travel light to the islands, since vehicles, pets, and trash service are not available on the harbor sites.

Both Wompatuck State Park and the Peddocks Island campground are managed by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation and are booked through ReserveAmerica, either online at the DCR camping portal or by phone. Reservations open up to six months in advance for Wompatuck and four months in advance for the Boston Harbor Islands. Same-day reservations for Peddocks can be made up until 2 p.m. on the date of arrival, and walk-up registrations are not accepted on the islands. For Peddocks Island, the camping reservation is separate from the ferry ticket. Round-trip ferry passage from the Hingham Shipyard is booked through the park's ferry operator, Boston Harbor City Cruises, and capacity is limited, so it is best to lock in ferry seats immediately after confirming a campsite.
