RV camping near Sharon, Massachusetts
Sharon sits in Norfolk County between Boston and Providence, with I-95 running along its western edge and I-495 a short drive south. That position puts several full-service RV parks and state campgrounds within roughly a thirty to forty-five minute drive, making the town a practical base for exploring metro Boston, the South Shore, and the northern edge of Cape Cod.
The closest private options are Normandy Farms Campground in Foxboro, which operates from April 1 to November 15 with roughly 400 sites, and Canoe River Campground in nearby Mansfield. Circle CG Farm Campground sits farther east in Bellingham. For a state-run experience, Massasoit State Park in East Taunton offers wooded sites on DCR land.
For something different, the Boston Harbor Islands - Thompson Island entry represents the wider Boston Harbor Islands National and State Park system. Overnight camping within the park is offered on Peddocks Island, reached by park ferry from Hingham or by private boat, and is tent or yurt only rather than an RV site.
Things to do around Sharon
Sharon itself is built around Lake Massapoag, which allows swimming, paddling, and shoreline walks. Borderland State Park straddles the Sharon and Easton line and offers miles of carriage roads and multi-use trails suitable for families, plus the historic Ames Mansion.
Gillette Stadium and Patriot Place in Foxboro are a short drive west and host Patriots and Revolution games, concerts, restaurants, and shopping. Normandy Farms Campground sits less than five miles from Gillette Stadium, so game-day traffic is worth planning around. Boston itself is roughly twenty-five miles north, reachable by car or by commuter rail from Sharon station.
Day trips south lead to Plymouth, the Cape Cod Canal, and the beaches of Buzzards Bay. To the west, Wrentham Village Premium Outlets draws steady shopper traffic on weekends.

The RV season around Sharon runs roughly from mid-April through late October, tracking the schedules of the surrounding parks. Normandy Farms operates April 1 through November 15, and the camping season at Massachusetts DCR campgrounds runs from April through October. Winter camping is limited, and many private parks shut off water lines before the first hard freeze.
Summer is peak season. July and August bring the warmest, most reliable weather and the heaviest booking pressure, especially on Patriots home weekends and around July 4, Labor Day, and any concert dates at Gillette Stadium. Reserve well in advance for those windows.
Spring and fall are quieter and cooler. Fall foliage typically peaks in mid to late October across eastern Massachusetts, and cranberry harvests in nearby bogs run through September and October. Shoulder-season campers should pack for cold overnight temperatures and the chance of rain.

How to book campgrounds near Sharon
Private parks in the area, including Normandy Farms Campground, Canoe River Campground, and Circle CG Farm Campground, take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Peak weekends, especially those tied to Gillette Stadium events, fill months out, so book as early as plans allow.
Massachusetts state campgrounds, including Massasoit State Park, use the ReserveAmerica system operated by the state Department of Conservation and Recreation. Reservations are available up to four months in advance of arrival, and same-day reservations can be made until 2 p.m. daily through ReserveAmerica, though walk-in registrations are not permitted.
Camping at the Boston Harbor Islands is booked through the same DCR system, with a 2026 camping season running June 17 to October 12, and a separate ferry ticket required from Hingham Shipyard.
What to expect on the ground
Private resorts in this corridor lean full-service. Normandy Farms offers spacious pull-through campsites complete with water, electric, sewer, cable, and WiFi, plus glamping rentals, along with indoor and outdoor pools, a fitness center, disc golf, and family programming. Expect tighter site spacing than in western Massachusetts state forests, and expect the parks to be busy with families through summer.
State-park sites are more rustic. Massasoit State Park has 84 campsites, 50 with electric hookups, with drinking water, flush toilets, hot-water showers and trash collection. Massachusetts prohibits the transportation of firewood or any wood products into or out of any DCR campground, so plan to buy on site.
Mosquitoes and ticks are active from late spring through early fall in the wooded areas around Sharon. Bring repellent and check for ticks after hiking.
