Here’s the updated version with the host included: RV Trip Review We just got back from our trip and had a great experience with this RV. The vehicle was clean, comfortable, and ran really well throughout the entire trip. It had plenty of space for the family and made traveling together easy and enjoyable. How to book campgrounds near Hawthorne
New York State Parks use the ReserveAmerica system for Beaver Pond and Pelton Pond. Camping reservations can be made up to 9 months in advance, and sites become available at the 9-month window at 8AM Monday through Friday and 9AM on weekends from March 15 through Labor Day. Same-day reservations are allowed until 3 p.m. on the day of arrival for campsites, and bookings can be made online or through the ReserveAmerica Call Center. Note that Pelton Pond at Fahnestock is closed for the 2026 season.
Floyd Bennett Field uses the federal system, with reservations up to six months in advance at Recreation.gov. Liberty Harbor RV Park and Sylvan Lake Beach Park Inc book directly through their own websites or by phone, and weekend and holiday demand is high, so booking early is essential.
What to expect on site
State-park sites in the region are rustic. Beaver Pond offers campsites, some with a raised platform, for up to two tents and six persons per site, and select sites can accommodate a trailer or RV up to 30 feet long, but there are no electrical hookups for trailers. Pets and alcohol are not permitted at Beaver Pond Campgrounds, and each site has a picnic table and fire ring with a flip-top grill. Fahnestock's Pelton Pond area is similar: the scenic campground, formed along the park's natural rock ridges, provides alcoves of privacy, and each site has a picnic table, fire ring, and charcoal grill, with no hookups or dump station.
Urban options trade woods for convenience. Liberty Harbor operates as a fenced section within a marina area with hookups, and sites are positioned close together. At Floyd Bennett Field, RV sites are open paved areas with no electric or water hookups, though a dump station is available.
