Grapevine Hills Primitive Roadside Campsites offer a remote backcountry camping experience within Big Bend National Park, located approximately 3 miles west of Panther Junction in West Texas. These primitive roadside camps provide an authentic desert camping destination for adventurers seeking solitude and rugged landscape exploration.
The campground consists of five designated primitive sites with minimal development. No shade structures, toilets, or other amenities are provided, making this an ideal choice for self-sufficient campers. Sites GH-1 and GH-2 are generally accessible to standard vehicles, while sites GH-3 and GH-4 require high-clearance vehicles due to extremely rough terrain conditions.
The setting showcases expansive vistas and exceptional views across the landscape. The sparse desert vegetation characteristic of this region provides unobstructed panoramic views.
The area is ideal for photography, stargazing, hiking, and experiencing the raw beauty of the Big Bend region. Backcountry permits are required and available through recreation.gov up to 180 days in advance. Generators are prohibited to preserve the wilderness character of this remote West Texas destination.
