We had such a great experience with this RV! It was perfect for our family of five — the beds were spacious and comfortable, and the RV was spotless with all the equipment we needed, which made our trip super convenient. Before our trip, they explained everything about the RV in detail, so we didn’t have any trouble and could just relax and enjoy. Communication was also very easy — they always responded quickly whenever we had questions. We’ll definitely rent again next time! Highly recommended!

Bob was very easy to deal with. He answered ever question we had regarding the RV. We have rented from this platform not had we ever driven a vehicle so large. He put us at ease. As for his rental it was fully stocked with everything we needed including coffee. The RV was clean and the bed was made up for us. He took the time to go through how everything worked. We used the RV for rough camping at a NASCAR race so we didn’t have any electricity. The RV was able to handle this for 4 days with no issues. I would definitely rent from Bob again.

Do I need a special license to rent an RV in King, North Carolina?

Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in King and across North Carolina for nearly every rig on RVezy. The North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles (NCDMV) only requires a non-commercial Class B license for single motorhomes over 26,000 pounds, which is well above the weight of the typical Class C, campervan, or travel trailer you'll find listed. No Commercial Driver License (CDL) is required for recreational use. You'll need to be 25 or older to book on RVezy, and your ID is verified securely through the platform during checkout. Visiting from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) along with your home country license and you're ready to roll toward Pilot Mountain.

What if my plans change after I book an RV rental in King, NC?

Booking is low-risk because RVezy, not the host, sets the cancellation policy for every reservation. There is a money-back grace period right after you book, plus added flexibility for situations like severe weather or natural disasters, which matters in the Piedmont where summer thunderstorms and occasional winter ice events can pop up. You will see your full cancellation terms in your booking confirmation, and the RVezy support team is reachable before, during, and after your trip. Book your King RV trip early to lock in the best rigs for Hanging Rock and Pilot Mountain, knowing you have a clear cancellation policy in place.

Can I bring my dog on a King, NC RV trip?

Yes, pet-friendly RV rental options in King are easy to find on RVezy, just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter when you search and many listings will appear. Hosts may add a small pet cleaning fee, and the region is a dream for four-legged travelers. Hanging Rock State Park allows leashed pets on most trails and at campsites (not on the swim beach or inside cabins), and nearby Pilot Mountain State Park is also dog-friendly on its hiking trails. Bring a 6-foot leash, plenty of water for summer hikes, and a towel for muddy paws after Cascade Falls. Your pup will sleep great after a day in the Sauratown Mountains.

Can the RV be delivered to my campsite near King?

Yes, RV delivery in King is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-time renters who would rather skip towing or driving a big rig. Many local hosts will deliver your motorhome or travel trailer to Hanging Rock State Park Family Campground, Pilot Mountain State Park Campground in Pinnacle, or Jomeokee Campground at the foot of Pilot Mountain, then level it, hook up utilities, and walk you through every system. Use the Delivery filter when browsing listings and message the host to confirm distance and fees. Ask about a setup-and-pickup package so you arrive, unpack groceries, and start your campervan rental in King without lifting a wrench.

When is the best time of year for RV camping in King, NC?

King sits in the Piedmont foothills, so you get four genuine seasons and a long camping window from late March through early November. Spring (April to May) brings highs in the 70s and blooming dogwoods, perfect for waterfall hikes. Summer (June to August) is warm and humid with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s, so an RV with reliable air conditioning is a must. Fall (mid-October to early November) is a local favorite when the Sauratown Mountains turn red and gold and overnight lows dip into the 40s. Winter camping is possible at Hanging Rock, which is open year-round, with daytime temps in the 40s and 50s, though some private parks close from December through February.

I've never rented an RV before. Will I know what to do?

You'll be in great hands, because first time renting an RV in King means your host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup, covering hookups, slide-outs, the generator, the awning, water systems, and how to dump tanks. You can message your host with questions before booking, and RVezy's 24/7 support team is one call away during your trip. Most first-timers in the King area choose a Class C motorhome (drives like a big van) or a travel trailer delivered straight to the campground so they never have to tow anything. Pro tip: ask your host for a short video walkthrough the night before pickup so the orientation feels like a refresher, not a firehose of info.

What happens if I have a breakdown on my King, NC RV trip?

You are never stranded on an RV camping trip from King because 24/7 roadside assistance is included with every RVezy booking. One phone call can get you tire changes, jump starts, fuel delivery, lockout help, and towing if needed, whether you are parked at a campsite off NC-89 near Hanging Rock or climbing the grade toward the Blue Ridge Parkway. Your host is also a quick message away for RV-specific questions like a finicky water heater or a slide that will not retract. Snap a photo of the roadside assistance number and your VIN at pickup so you can call hands-free if anything happens on the road. Most trips never need it, but the safety net is there.

From King you can be on the Blue Ridge Parkway near Fancy Gap, Virginia in about an hour, in Asheville in under three hours, or at Myrtle Beach in about five hours. Travel into Canada may be possible depending on the host and insurance terms, so message before booking. Travel to Mexico is not allowed on any RVezy rental because insurance coverage doesn't extend there. Confirm your route with the host so mileage and cross-border details are agreed upfront, then enjoy the open road.

How much should I budget for fuel on an RV trip from King, NC?

Fuel is usually the biggest variable cost on a King-area RV trip, so plan smart. As of mid-2026, North Carolina's average gas price sits around $4.13 per gallon according to AAA, with diesel near $5.62. A Class C motorhome typically gets 8-10 miles per gallon (MPG), a campervan 15-18 MPG, and a travel trailer behind a truck around 10-12 MPG. For a 200-mile weekend loop (King to Pilot Mountain to Mount Airy and back), budget roughly $80-$110 in gas for a Class C. Pro tip: fill up in King or Winston-Salem before heading toward Stokes County, where prices can run 10-15 cents higher near the Virginia border.

How far in advance should I book a campground near King, NC?

For the most popular spots near King, book as early as you can. North Carolina State Parks open reservations on a six-month rolling window, and weekends at Hanging Rock and Pilot Mountain (especially May, October peak-leaf season, and holiday weekends) often fill within days of the window opening. Private parks like Jomeokee Campground and Holly Ridge typically accept reservations several months out. Midweek arrivals from Sunday through Wednesday usually have availability, even last minute, which is a great option if you are planning a flexible King NC RV trip.

What are the driving conditions like around King, NC?

Driving an RV around King is refreshingly manageable, which is one reason the area is a favorite for first-timers. US-52 and NC-66 are wide, well-maintained four-lane routes, and local roads to Hanging Rock and Pilot Mountain are paved and RV-friendly. Watch for two things: the climb up Pilot Mountain's summit road (steep grade, tight switchbacks, not recommended for rigs over 25 feet, park at the lower lot instead) and occasional summer afternoon thunderstorms that roll across the Piedmont. Winter ice events are rare but can shut roads for a day. Pro tip: avoid I-40 through Winston-Salem during weekday rush hours (7-9 AM and 4-6 PM) by routing through NC-66 instead.
ncdot.gov/travel-maps/traffic-travel/Pages/default.aspx

Campgrounds near King NC range from rustic state park sites to full-hookup private resorts, so you can match the experience to your rig. Hanging Rock State Park offers 73 sites with picnic tables, fire rings, hot-shower bathhouses, and drinking water, but no electric, water, or sewer hookups at the site and no dump station on premises. Pilot Mountain State Park is similar: rustic but well-kept. For full hookups (30/50 amp electric, water, sewer) and a dump station, head to Jomeokee Campground in Pinnacle or Lake Myers RV Resort in Mocksville. Pro tip: the closest reliable RV dump station and freshwater fill is at Jomeokee Campground, so plan a stop there before or after your state park stay.

How does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?

Payment is simple and secure. When you book your rent an RV in King reservation, RVezy charges your credit or debit card through the platform, so no cash or e-transfers ever change hands with the host. The full trip cost is collected through RVezy, and a refundable security deposit is pre-authorized on your card before pickup, separate from your booking payment. As long as the RV comes back in the agreed condition, the hold is released after your trip. To avoid issues, take date-stamped photos and a short video of the interior and exterior at pickup and dropoff, fill the fuel and propane to the levels noted in your agreement, and empty the tanks at a dump station before returning.

What's a must-do local experience on an RV trip from King, NC?

Here's the local insider tip: combine the Yadkin Valley wine trail with your campground stay. King sits in the heart of North Carolina's first federally designated American Viticultural Area (AVA), and within 20 miles you can visit Stony Knoll Vineyards, RagApple Lassie, Shelton Vineyards, and Raffaldini Vineyards (the Tuscan-style stunner). Park your RV at Hanging Rock or Pilot Mountain, then daytrip the wineries by car or rideshare (never drive the RV after tastings). Then spend a morning hiking to Hanging Rock summit or Window Falls, and an evening on Main Street in Mount Airy, Andy Griffith's real-life Mayberry, just 25 miles away. It's the perfect mix of mountains, vineyards, and small-town charm that defines a King NC RV trip.
