Mid-June through early September is the prime window, when campgrounds are fully open, Lake Koocanusa warms enough for swimming and paddling, and daytime highs are reliably warm. July and August are the busiest months, so reservations are strongly recommended for RV sites. Late May and September offer a quieter shoulder season with cooler nights and lower reservoir levels, which is better suited to self-contained RVs comfortable with limited services.

Lake Koocanusa offers sandy beaches and warm summer swimming directly accessible from the park's day-use areas. The reservoir's calm bays are well suited to families, and shaded picnic sites back the main beach.
Surveyors Lake is a small, warm interior lake circled by an easy forested walking trail inside the park. The loop is family-friendly and connects several campground areas, with canoe and paddleboard access at the lakeshore.
The park includes a boat launch giving RV visitors direct access to Lake Koocanusa for motorboating, fishing, and water sports. Kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards are popular on the quieter interior lakes such as Surveyors and Hidden.
Anglers target kokanee, rainbow trout, and bull trout in Lake Koocanusa, with smaller interior lakes stocked for trout. A valid BC freshwater licence is required, and regulations should be checked before your trip.
Kikomun Creek is known for its population of western painted turtles, which can be seen basking on logs in the wetland areas. White-tailed deer, osprey, and a variety of songbirds are also commonly observed along the trails.
The park's paved and gravel roads provide relaxed cycling between campgrounds, beaches, and small lakes. Families often bring bikes to explore the network without needing to move the RV.
Fernie is a short drive north of the park and offers restaurants, outdoor gear shops, and access to the Elk Valley's hiking and mountain biking. It makes a convenient half-day outing from an RV basecamp at Kikomun Creek.
Very prompt communication and friendly.

Communication should have been 6 stars. Best I’ve ever had! What a treat to have a fresh travel trailer delivered to our camping spot with everything ready. All we had to do was unload our food and clothing, lean back and relax. Great weekend! Thank you.

The trailer was so perfect - clean, comfortable, well equipped and everything as described. Great communication with the owners - we would be happy to rent again :)

Brad and April were awesome hosts. They were great at communicating with us and took care to ensure we were comfortable and the RV was clean and in great shape. This is our first time using RVsey and we are so grateful for the seamless and personal experience. We will be contacting Brad and April in the future when we are back in Montana!

Kikomun Creek Provincial Park, BC, Canada
The park is roughly a 35 to 45 minute drive south of Fernie and about an hour east of Cranbrook via Highway 3 and Highway 93, with access off the Jaffray-Baynes Lake Road. From Calgary, Alberta, plan on about a 4.5 to 5 hour drive through the Crowsnest Pass, which includes sustained mountain grades that warrant low-gear descents and brake checks for larger RVs. U.S. travellers can cross at Roosville, about 30 minutes south on Highway 93. The nearest airports for fly-and-rent trips are Cranbrook (YXC) and Kalispell, Montana (FCA).
