Late June through early September offers the warmest weather, open beach access, and full visitor services, but these months also draw the largest crowds and reservations fill quickly. May and September are strong shoulder-season choices for RVers seeking cooler temperatures, fewer mosquitoes, and easier site availability. Pinery is one of Ontario's most popular parks, so booking far in advance is essential for summer stays. Winter visits are possible for self-contained RVs, but lake-effect snow is common.
Lake-effect snow common; park open for winter camping in limited roofed and winterized sites.
Cross-country ski and snowshoe trails typically groomed.
Shoulder season; variable conditions, trails may be icy.
Spring birding picks up; beach still cool.

The Old Ausable Channel is a provincially significant wetland that winds through the park and is a highlight for paddlers. Visitors can rent a canoe, hydro bike, paddleboat, or single or double kayak to explore this provincially significant wetland. Rental parking areas accommodate vehicles and smaller tow-vehicles. ontarioparks.com/park/pinery
Pinery's beach stretches along one of Ontario's rarest coastal dune systems. The park protects an impressive coastal sand dune complex spanning over 9.5 km of the Lake Huron shoreline. Numbered beach access points (P1 through P10) have parking lots and boardwalks leading over the dunes.
Pinery has ten interpretive walking trails exploring oak savanna, dunes, wetlands, and Carolinian forest. The park offers 10 walking trails, a 14 km bike trail, and 38 km of groomed ski trails. Trailheads have day-use parking suitable for tow vehicles. ontarioparks.com/park/pinery
A paved 14 km multi-use bike trail runs the length of the park, linking campgrounds, beach access points, and the Visitor Centre. Cyclists of all ages can ride through oak savanna and forest without sharing the main park road. Bike rentals are available seasonally. ontarioparks.com/park/pinery
Pinery is one of Ontario's premier birding destinations thanks to its location on a Great Lakes migration corridor. The park boasts over 320 species of birds, with the Carolinian and Riverside trails ranking as top birding routes. Spring and fall migration periods are especially productive.
The park's Visitor Centre is the hub for discovering Pinery's unique ecology. The Visitor Centre offers exhibits, an indoor theatre featuring programming and nature documentaries, park naturalists, washrooms and the Friends of Pinery Park Nature Store. Programs run daily in summer and on weekends off-season.
In winter, Pinery transforms into a quiet cross-country ski destination. On snowy days, visitors can explore the park's 38 km of cross-country ski trails and wander the park's 5.3 km of packed snowshoeing trails. Winterized RV sites and heated cabins are available for overnight stays. ontarioparks.com/parksblog/winter-at-pinery
The park's sandy Lake Huron beaches are the main summer draw for families. Shallow, warm water and long stretches of sand make it suitable for young swimmers. Beach access points along the park road have paved lots that fit most tow vehicles and smaller motorhomes.
This was my second booking with Harold and it was another great experience. He’s great to work with and the RV is in excellent shape.

Pinery Provincial Park, ON, Canada
The park sits just south of Grand Bend on Highway 21, about a 45-minute drive (roughly 65 km) northwest of London, Ontario, and approximately 2.5 to 3 hours from the Greater Toronto Area via Highways 401 and 402. Access is on flat southwestern Ontario terrain with no mountain passes or major tunnels, making it straightforward for larger RVs and towables. Drivers should watch for strong crosswinds near the Lake Huron shoreline and seasonal tourist traffic through Grand Bend in summer. The nearest major airport for fly-and-rent travelers is London International Airport (YXU), with Toronto Pearson (YYZ) as a larger alternative.
