Campgrounds and RV parks near Port Coquitlam, BC

The Traboulay PoCo Trail is a 25-kilometre loop around the city that follows the Pitt and Fraser rivers, passing farmland, dyke paths, and riverfront parks. It is flat, family-friendly, and works well for cycling or an evening walk from most RV parks in the area. Day trips from a Port Coquitlam base cover a wide range of terrain. Golden Ears Park offers hiking, horseback riding, and swimming at Alouette Lake. Buntzen Lake near Anmore is popular for paddling and lakeside trails, and Mount Seymour and the North Shore mountains are within about an hour's drive. Downtown Vancouver, Stanley Park, and the Tsawwassen and Horseshoe Bay ferry terminals are also within easy reach for longer excursions.

Peak RV camping season in the Lower Mainland runs from the May long weekend through early September, with July and August the busiest. Golden Ears Park's three frontcountry campgrounds fill quickly on weekends and holidays, and Golden Ears also requires a vehicle day-use pass on Fridays through Mondays until late afternoon during the summer program. Private RV parks near Port Coquitlam operate year-round but see their heaviest demand in summer, so booking several weeks ahead is recommended for July and August arrivals. Shoulder seasons in April, May, late September, and October offer cooler weather, lower demand, and easier last-minute availability. Fall brings heavy rain to the Coast Mountains and Fraser Valley, and atmospheric river storms in October and November have caused significant flood and road damage in the region in recent years, including damage to the Golden Ears Parkway that closed the park for months. Winter camping is limited but possible at Gold Creek in Golden Ears at a reduced rate, and most private parks in Metro Vancouver stay open through the wet season. Snow is uncommon at sea level but does fall a few times each winter.

Private RV parks in and around Port Coquitlam generally offer full hookups with water, sewer, and 30-amp electrical service, along with laundry, Wi-Fi, and sani-dump facilities. Burnaby Cariboo RV Park and Campground Vancouver sits adjacent to Burnaby Lake Regional Park with transit access nearby and offers paved full-hookup sites plus indoor amenities. Provincial park sites at Golden Ears are more rustic. Expect gravel pads without hookups, flush or pit toilets depending on the campground, and a sani-station for dumping. The park is bear country, so campers must keep sites clean and store food, cooking gear, and scented items securely. Vehicle day-use passes are required at Golden Ears on weekends during the summer program, and dogs must be leashed within park boundaries.
