Campgrounds and RV parks near Palmer Lake, CO

The main draw is the Palmer Lake Reservoir Trailhead at the end of Old Carriage Road, which climbs into the foothills to two small reservoirs above town. Popular routes from that trailhead include the moderate La Deux Reservoirs Trail to the upper reservoir and longer connectors up to Chautauqua, Sundance and Ice Cave Creek. Note that dogs are not permitted on the reservoir trails, and swimming is prohibited in the town watershed. Beyond town, Mueller State Park near Divide offers around 50 miles of trails and strong wildlife viewing on the west side of Pikes Peak. Cheyenne Mountain State Park south of Colorado Springs adds more trail mileage and paved biking. The New Santa Fe Regional Trail runs through Palmer Lake for easy flat cycling toward Monument and Colorado Springs, and Rampart Reservoir near Woodland Park is a paddling and fishing option in warmer months.

Elevation matters here. Palmer Lake sits above 7,000 feet, so expect thinner air, strong UV, and overnight lows that can drop 30 to 40 degrees below the daytime high even in summer. Pack layers, sun protection and extra water regardless of forecast. Most private parks in the area offer full or partial hookups, level gravel sites, and basic amenities like laundry, restrooms and dump stations. Some sites are close together in typical RV-park fashion, while others are more wooded. Cell coverage is generally solid in town and along I-25 but drops off quickly on forest roads and near the reservoir trailhead. Wildlife is active. Black bears, mule deer, elk and coyotes all move through camping areas, so store food and trash securely, follow any bear-box rules at state parks, and keep pets leashed. Fire restrictions are common in summer and are posted by county and by the U.S. Forest Service.
