Plan a relaxing lakeside retreat for you and your crew in Barrie. Perched on the edge of the tranquil Lake Simcoe and surrounded by ski resorts, Barrie is one of Ontario's premier winter and summer sports destinations. And as part of Canada's Greater Golden Horseshoe, Barrie is the perfect base for exploring major metro areas like Toronto and Mississauga.
The best time to book an RV rental in Barrie depends on whether you're looking to hit the beach or the slopes. In the summer, you can soak up the sun on Lake Simcoe's pristine sandy beaches or visit the Horseshoe Resort for activities like mountain biking, golfing, hiking, and paddling. During the winter, Barrie's ski resorts, Snow Valley, Horseshoe Resort, and Mount St. Louis Moonstone all have alpine activities for visitors who crave winter recreation. If you're a lover of the great outdoors and you're looking to stay a stone's throw from Toronto in any season, you can't go wrong with a Barrie motorhome rental.

Barrie is an excellent city for RVers and is much easier to navigate than neighboring metro areas like Toronto. Barrie is a commuter city that has grown rapidly, so watch out for traffic jams around rush hour. If you don't feel like driving, Barrie has a great local bus service. There are also a few places you park your RV near the waterfront.
Barrie has a few interesting local attractions and some of Ontario's best winter and water sports facilities. Campers looking to soak up some culture should check out the MacLaren Art Centre. While fairly small, the MacLaren Art Centre has a fascinating collection of paintings and sculptures from local and international artists. One of the museum's highlights is the Spirit Catcher, a 69-foot (21 metre) tall statue by Toronto native Ron Baird.
If you'd prefer to learn more about local history during your RV rental in Barrie, swing by Historic Fort Willow. Now a conservation area, the fort was once used as a supply depot during the War of 1812 and as a transportation route for First Nations, fur traders, and French explorers over the centuries. Today, visitors can tour the fort and watch reenactments of battles from the War of 1812. The fort is also popular with wildlife watchers, as monarch butterflies visit the area during summer.
Campers looking to make the most of Lake Simcoe during their visit will want to spend a day or two at Centennial Beach. Arguably Lake Simcoe's finest beach, Centennial Beach, is ideal for taking a dip in Kempenfelt Bay. During your visit, get competitive on the beach volleyball court or take a stroll down one of four paved trails. There are also food concession stands for when you get hungry and need a bite to eat.

Located on the outskirts of Canada's bustling Greater Golden Horseshoe, Barrie boasts several of the region's best RV parks. One of the top-rated RV campgrounds near Barrie is the Barrie KOA Holiday. The Barrie KOA Holiday is one of the closest campgrounds to Barrie and offers spacious pull-through sites with full hookups and max-amp electricity. Located on 60 acres of the Canadian countryside, the Barrie KOA is perfect for getting back to nature. Pets are welcome, and there are not one but two on-site dog parks. Plenty of home comforts are also provided, including Wi-Fi access, bathrooms, and a snack bar.
Just 30 minutes from downtown is another popular RV park, the Nicolston Dam Campground and Travellers Park. This riverside campground provides spacious sites with partial hookups and 30-amp electricity. RVers won't get bored at this campground with a swimming pool, a mini-golf course, and kayaking opportunities on the Nottawasaga River. Pets are welcome, and on-site amenities include Wi-Fi, laundry services, and a gift shop.
Escape civilization altogether and stay at the Georgian Bay Park. The campground, overlooking the sublime Georgian Bay, offers sites with full hookups and 50-amp electricity. When you're not off exploring Ontario, spend your days swimming at Wasaga Beach or plan a bayside hike through the lush woodlands. You'll find a few basic amenities around camp, including bathrooms, showers, and Wi-Fi.
