2022 Leisure Travel Vans Class C
We rented ‘Seraphina’ for our trip through Olympic National Park and Leavenworth in the North Cascades. We loved it! We’re not big campers, but with this Sprinter-based camper van, we had all the comfort of a tiny home on wheels. The van is set up so that everything is well organized and turnkey for traveling from campground to campground with ease and comfort. It is well supplied and outfitted to set up a comfortable and cozy campsite in minutes. The bed was surprisingly comfortable and we slept really well in it. Priscila gave us a great walkthrough at the first handoff and was communicative and there for us to answer questions along the way. We would rent this rig from her again!

Anthony’s 12’ GeoPro trailer was a great rental experience. It was easy to connect and disconnect, which made pickup and drop-off simple and stress-free. The trailer had everything we needed, including a table, chairs, bedding, cookware, cutlery, and place settings. The kitchen was a huge bonus and made the trip much more comfortable. Overall, it was well-equipped, easy to use, and exactly what we needed. Highly recommend.

I took my 16 year old son and 2 adult friends to there first NFL game and to watch our Oilers in Seattle in late November. Dave's RV was the perfect accommodation for the 3 days! What was awesome was the communication with Dave prior to the rental. He answered all questions and concerns in a timely fashion. In this day and age where customer service seems to be almost no existent Dave went above and beyond. Dave went through the pre trip check with me and my son and that interaction showed he cared about us having a positive experience. With any type of rental things could go wrong, nothing did for us, but I felt reassured Dave would be there if anything did, peace of mind! RV was just what we needed for this trip. Thanks again Dave!!

Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in University Place, WA

How much does it cost to rent an RV in University Place, WA?

Renting an RV in University Place is more affordable than most people expect, with average prices around $200 per night for motorhomes and roughly $120 per night for towable trailers like travel trailers and fifth wheels. Many hosts offer 10 to 20 percent discounts on weekly and monthly bookings, which is a smart way to save on a longer Pacific Northwest road trip. Do I need a special license to rent an RV in University Place?

Good news: your regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in University Place, WA. Washington's Department of Licensing only requires a Commercial Driver License (CDL) for vehicles over 26,001 pounds used commercially, and personal RV use is specifically exempt, so every Class A, Class C, campervan, and travel trailer on RVezy is fair game. You'll need to be 25 or older with a valid license, and ID verification happens easily through the RVezy platform. Visiting from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit alongside your home-country license. Most first-time renters are surprised how simple the paperwork is once they see how RVezy walks them through it step by step.

Every RV rental in University Place comes with a built-in renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you're covered from the moment you pull out of the host's driveway. RVezy offers multiple protection tiers, and you (not the host) choose the level of coverage during checkout based on how much extra cushion you want. I've never driven an RV. Will I be okay renting in University Place?

You'll do great, even if it's your first time renting an RV. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through driving, leveling, hookups, slide-outs, the propane system, and the dump process so nothing is a mystery. For a gentle first outing, head to Kopachuck or Penrose Point on the Key Peninsula, where roads are flat and traffic is light, rather than tackling Seattle freeway traffic on day one. Pro tip: message your host with questions before pickup. They love helping first-timers feel confident.

Can I take the RV across state lines or into Canada from University Place?

Yes, your RV road trip from University Place can absolutely cross state lines. Popular routes include heading south to the Oregon coast and Crater Lake, east over Snoqualmie Pass to Eastern Washington wine country, or north to British Columbia. Travel to Canada is allowed on most RVezy rentals as long as you confirm with the host in advance and bring a passport or other approved travel document at the border crossing in Blaine, about 175 miles north. Travel to Mexico is not permitted because insurance and protection coverage do not extend there. Pro tip: if you're heading to Vancouver, BC, message the host at least a few days ahead so they can confirm cross-border permission in writing.

How much should I budget for fuel on a Washington RV trip?

Fuel is a real line item to plan for because Washington has some of the highest gas prices in the country, often running well above the national average due to state fuel taxes and the carbon pricing program. Plan for a Class C motorhome to get roughly 8 to 12 miles per gallon, a campervan around 15 to 20 mpg, and a tow vehicle with a travel trailer about 10 to 14 mpg. For a typical 300-mile weekend loop from University Place to Mount Rainier and back, budget roughly $100 to $180 in fuel. Pro tip: gas tends to be cheaper in Lakewood and Spanaway than directly in Tacoma, and Costco off South Tacoma Way is a local favorite for filling up.

How far in advance should I book campgrounds near University Place?

Book early and you'll thank yourself. Washington State Parks like Dash Point, Penrose Point, and Belfair open their reservation window 9 months in advance through the official Washington State Parks reservation system, and the best waterfront sites for summer weekends sell out within minutes of the window opening. Mount Rainier's Cougar Rock and Ohanapecosh campgrounds release sites 6 months out on Recreation.gov and fill almost as fast. For private parks near Tacoma and Gig Harbor, 2 to 4 months ahead is usually plenty. Pro tip: midweek nights at the best campgrounds near University Place are dramatically easier to grab than Friday or Saturday.

What are the driving conditions like around University Place?

University Place is easy to drive through, but a few local quirks are worth knowing for your motorhome rental University Place trip. The Tacoma Narrows Bridge on SR-16 is the gateway to the Kitsap and Olympic peninsulas and is fully RV-friendly, with a westbound toll for vehicles. I-5 between Tacoma and Seattle gets heavy congestion weekdays from about 3 to 7 pm, so plan departures early or late. Mountain routes to Mount Rainier (SR-7 and SR-706) are paved and scenic but include steep grades, so downshift on descents. Winter brings occasional snow and ice in the Cascades, where chains may be required. Pro tip: skip downtown Tacoma in a tall rig and stick to I-5 or SR-16 to avoid low overpasses.

What amenities can I expect at local campgrounds?

Campgrounds around University Place range from full-service resorts to rustic state-park sites, and most have what you need for a comfortable stay. Private parks like Sun Outdoors Gig Harbor and Majestic RV in Fife offer full hookups (water, sewer, 30/50 amp electric), Wi-Fi, laundry, and showers. Washington State Parks such as Dash Point and Belfair have utility sites with water and electric plus on-site dump stations, while Penrose Point has standard sites and a dump station at the entrance. Mount Rainier's Cougar Rock has potable water and flush toilets but no hookups, and the dump station is closed for the 2026 season. Pro tip: top off fresh water and dump tanks before heading into Mount Rainier so you're set for the whole stay.

What features and amenities come with RV rentals in University Place?

Most University Place RVs come loaded for a comfortable Pacific Northwest trip. Expect real beds (queens are common in Class C motorhomes), a full kitchen with stove, fridge, microwave, and sink, an enclosed bathroom with shower and toilet, dinette seating with seatbelts, climate control, and basic dishware. Many rigs also include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor awning, and onboard generator for off-grid power. Some larger Class A motorhomes have washer/dryer combos and additional slide-outs. Wi-Fi and pet allowances vary by host, so check the listing's amenity list. Pro tip: in the often-cool Puget Sound evenings, confirm the rig has a working furnace or heat pump, even for summer trips. Coastal nights can dip into the low 50s F.

What add-ons and pickup options should I know about for University Place RV rentals?

University Place hosts offer some great add-ons that make trips easier. Popular extras include camping kits (chairs, table, fire pit), kitchen and linen packages, generators, bike racks, kayaks or paddleboards (perfect for nearby American Lake), and propane refills. Pickup is typically at the host's location in or near University Place, Lakewood, or Tacoma, and many offer delivery for a flat fee or per-mile rate to nearby campgrounds. Mileage policies vary: some hosts include 100 to 150 miles per night, while others offer RV rental with unlimited mileage for longer Pacific Northwest road trips. Pro tip: build your add-on list into the booking request so the host can pack everything before you arrive.

How do payment and the security deposit work for an RV rental in University Place?

Payment is simple and secure through the RVezy platform: you pay the full rental cost (plus protection, taxes, and any add-ons) at booking, with no cash exchanged with the host. A refundable security deposit is authorized separately on your card before the trip starts and released after the RV is returned in the same condition it left, typically within a few days of the trip ending. Deposit amounts vary by RV and are clearly shown on the listing before you book. To avoid issues, take time-stamped photos of the interior, exterior, and any existing scratches at pickup. Pro tip: communicate any small mishap to your host quickly through the RVezy app. Honest, prompt communication almost always leads to the smoothest deposit return.

Can I escape city traffic and get into nature quickly from University Place?

Yes, that's one of the best things about an RV trip from University Place. You're about 10 minutes from the Tacoma Narrows Bridge, which puts you on the Kitsap and Key Peninsulas, plus you're roughly 35 minutes from Olympia, about 65 miles from Mount Rainier's Nisqually Entrance, and about 90 minutes from the Hood Canal side of Olympic National Park. Even without leaving town, Chambers Creek Regional Park gives you Puget Sound bluff views and the famous Chambers Bay Golf Course. If big-city driving makes you nervous, book a host who offers RV delivery so the rig meets you at the campground and you never have to navigate I-5. Pro tip: head west across the Narrows for the fastest escape to wide-open Pacific Northwest forest and water.
