2022 Winnebago Class B
Great set up. We ended up not using some of the add ons as we got cleared out early due to smoke/fires and were reimbursed appropriately. Very professional communications. Nice for a small family of 4 for the weekend or more. 8 YO boy enjoyed it too: “dad do you think you could quit work and we could just drive around in this van for the rest of the year?”

2025 Winnebago Class B
My nephew and I had a great experience renting this van. It was clean, comfortable, and the perfect size for our trip. Everything worked exactly as it should, and it came equipped with everything we needed, all in excellent condition. Both beds were very comfortable, which was a real pleasure after long days of hiking and traveling. The owners were fantastic to deal with—friendly, responsive, and easy to reach. They answered any questions we had within a few hours and were incredibly flexible when we needed to make last-minute adjustments to the pick-up and drop-off times. We would definitely rent this van again and highly recommend it to others.

Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Sandy, OR
How much does an RV rental in Sandy, OR cost?
RV rental in Sandy is one of the more affordable ways to experience Mount Hood. Most travel trailers start around $90 to $150 per night, campervans run roughly $150 to $225, and larger Class C motorhomes typically range from $200 to $325 per night, with prices set by individual hosts. Booking midweek and traveling in late September or May usually unlocks cheaper Sandy pricing, since you sidestep the Mt. Hood summer rush. Pro tip: filter for Instant Book listings just off Highway 26 to compare nightly rates side by side, then message a couple of hosts about multi-night discounts before you commit.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Sandy%2C%20OregonDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Sandy, Oregon?
A regular non-commercial driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Sandy, Oregon, whether you choose a campervan, travel trailer, or Class C motorhome. Oregon DMV allows a standard Class C license to cover personal-use RVs up to 26,000 pounds, which includes nearly every rig on the RVezy platform. RVezy approved drivers are generally 25 or older, and your ID is verified right inside the booking flow, so there is no extra paperwork at pickup. Visiting from abroad? Bring your home license plus an International Driving Permit and you are set to roll toward Mt. Hood.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs insurance and roadside assistance included with my Sandy RV rental?
Yes, every RV rental in Sandy booked on RVezy comes with a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance built in, so you can head up Highway 26 with real peace of mind. The protection plan covers accidental physical damage to the vehicle, and you choose your coverage level at checkout. If you get a flat near Government Camp or have a battery hiccup at Trillium Lake, one call to the RVezy roadside line gets help dispatched. It is purpose-built coverage designed specifically for peer-to-peer RV rentals.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat is the cancellation policy if my Sandy RV trip plans change?
Plans shift, and RVezy is built for that. RVezy sets the cancellation policy for every booking, not individual hosts, and it includes a money-back grace period right after you book so you can lock in your Sandy RV trip with confidence. Refund amounts after that window depend on how far out from your trip start you cancel. You will see the full terms during checkout. Pro tip: book early to grab the best rigs, knowing you have flexibility if life happens.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I find a pet-friendly RV rental in Sandy, OR?
Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental Sandy options are easy to find, just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you'll see hosts who welcome dogs along for the ride. Once you're parked, your pup will love it here: Oxbow Regional Park along the Sandy River has miles of leashed dog trails, the Sandy Ridge Trailhead area is dog-friendly for hikes, and Mt. Hood National Forest allows leashed pets on most trails. Message your host before booking to confirm pet fees and any size limits, and pack a towel because Sandy River swims are basically guaranteed.
fs.usda.gov/mthoodCan the RV be delivered to my campground or driveway in Sandy?
Yes, RV delivery in Sandy is a popular option, especially for first-time renters who would rather skip the drive up Highway 26. Many hosts will deliver and set up your RV right at Mt. Hood Village RV Resort in Welches, Sandy Riverfront RV Resort, or even a private driveway, then walk you through hookups, awning, slide-outs, and the basics. Use the Delivery filter on RVezy to see who offers it and how far they will travel. Pro tip: delivery is a smart move if you are flying into Portland International Airport (PDX) and want the RV waiting at your campsite when you arrive.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Sandy%2C%20OregonHow far can I drive, and what are popular road trip destinations from Sandy?
You have serious range from Sandy, and an RV road trip from Sandy puts some of Oregon's best scenery within a half-day drive. Timberline Lodge on Mt. Hood is about 35 miles east on Highway 26, the Columbia River Gorge and Multnomah Falls are roughly 30 to 40 miles north, Hood River sits about 55 miles away, Bend and Smith Rock are around 160 miles southeast, and the Oregon Coast at Cannon Beach is about 90 miles west. Look for hosts offering RV rental with unlimited mileage or generous daily mileage caps, and confirm the policy on the listing before booking.
fs.usda.gov/mthoodWhere are the best campgrounds near Sandy, OR for an RV?
You are spoiled for choice. Top campgrounds near Sandy for RV camping include Mt. Hood Village RV Resort in Welches (full hookups, year-round, indoor pool), Sandy Riverfront RV Resort near Troutdale (riverside, open all year), Oxbow Regional Park along the Sandy River (wooded sites, great for families), Trillium Lake Campground with iconic Mt. Hood reflections, and Lost Lake Resort and Campground about 50 miles east with postcard mountain views. Book summer dates well in advance, they vanish fast.
recreation.gov/camping/campground/250440When is the best time of year for a Sandy, OR RV trip?
Honestly, late June through September is the sweet spot for a Sandy RV trip, with daytime highs in the 70s to mid-80s and dry, sunny weather perfect for hiking Sandy Ridge or paddling Trillium Lake. May and early October are shoulder-season gold: cooler nights (40s) but fewer crowds and lower nightly rates. Winter is its own kind of magic, Timberline ski season runs roughly November through May, and several local RV parks stay open year-round with heated hookups. Pro tip: aim for a weekday arrival in July or August to dodge the I-84 weekend traffic heading to the Gorge.
fs.usda.gov/mthoodI've never driven an RV before. Is renting in Sandy beginner-friendly?
Totally doable, and first time renting an RV near Sandy is genuinely easier than most people expect. Every RVezy host gives a hands-on walkthrough at pickup covering driving, hookups, slide-outs, propane, and the dump valves, so you are never left guessing. For your first trip, pick a Class C motorhome or campervan (easier to handle than a Class A) and book a close-by campground like Mt. Hood Village RV Resort, only about 16 miles up Highway 26. The drive is mostly two-lane highway with gentle grades. Pro tip: choose a host offering delivery if you would rather skip the driving piece entirely.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?
You are covered. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance, so whether you are stuck with a dead battery at Lost Lake or a flat tire on the Mt. Hood Scenic Byway, one phone call gets help dispatched. Your host is also your first line of support for quirks specific to their RV, and RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after every trip. Save both numbers in your phone before you leave Sandy. Cell service is solid along Highway 26 and most popular campgrounds.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Sandy RV rental into Washington, California, or across the Canadian border?
Yes, most hosts welcome interstate trips, Washington's Mt. St. Helens is just 90 miles north and California's Redwoods are reachable down I-5. Cross-border travel into Canada (think Vancouver, BC) may be allowed depending on the host's insurance, so message them directly through the listing before booking to confirm. One firm rule: travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because insurance coverage doesn't extend there. Popular routes from Sandy include Highway 26 to Bend, I-84 east through the Columbia River Gorge to Hood River and Walla Walla, and Highway 101 down the Oregon Coast.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-goWhat kind of fuel economy and gas budget should I plan for?
Plan smart and you will be fine. Most Class C motorhomes around Sandy get 8 to 12 miles per gallon, campervans (Class B) often hit 16 to 20 mpg, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle's mpg. Oregon gas prices typically run a bit above the national average, so budget accordingly when you fuel up along Highway 26 in Sandy before heading into the mountains, fuel gets pricier in Government Camp. Pro tip: Oregon now allows self-service fueling statewide, so no more waiting for an attendant. Top off before you leave town for the best per-gallon price.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Sandy?
For summer weekends (June through Labor Day), reserve 4 to 6 months ahead, especially for Trillium Lake, Lost Lake, and Mt. Hood Village RV Resort, which fill quickly when reservation windows open. National forest campgrounds book through Recreation.gov on a rolling 6-month window, while Oregon State Parks open reservations 6 months in advance through OregonStateParks.org. Private RV resorts like Sandy Riverfront RV Resort often accept bookings further out. Pro tip: if your dates are locked but the campground is full, set a Recreation.gov alert, cancellations open up daily, particularly Sunday nights.
recreation.gov/What are local driving conditions like on the roads around Sandy?
Driving an RV around Sandy is genuinely manageable, Highway 26 east toward Mt. Hood is a well-maintained two-lane highway with steady grades climbing to about 4,000 feet at Government Camp. Heads up for a few realities: traction tires or chains are required on the pass roughly November through April (Oregon DOT posts conditions on TripCheck.com), summer weekend traffic to the Gorge and Mt. Hood can back up I-84 and Highway 26 on Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons, and watch for sudden mountain weather above 3,000 feet. Use an RV-specific GPS to avoid forest service roads not built for big rigs.
tripcheck.com/What amenities and hookups can I expect at campgrounds near Sandy?
You will find a strong mix. Most private parks like Mt. Hood Village RV Resort, Sandy Riverfront RV Resort, and Clackamette RV Park in Oregon City offer full hookups (30/50-amp electric, water, sewer) plus dump stations, potable water fills, showers, and laundry. National forest campgrounds in Mt. Hood National Forest are typically more rustic: expect vault toilets, picnic tables, fire rings, and sometimes potable water, but rarely sewer. Pro tip: top off fresh water in Sandy before heading up the mountain, some forest sites do not have spigots.
fs.usda.gov/recarea/mthood/recreation/camping-cabinsWhat's inside a typical RV rental in Sandy, and what should I expect?
Comfort, basically. Most Sandy campervan and motorhome listings come fully equipped: queen or king bed, kitchen with fridge, stovetop, microwave, sink, bathroom with toilet and shower (in Class C and larger), dinette that converts to extra sleeping, propane heat, air conditioning, and seatbelts for every passenger. Many include a generator for boondocking near Trillium Lake, plus outdoor camp chairs. WiFi and TV vary by host, check the listing's amenities list. Pro tip: filter by Sleeps count and RV type (campervan for couples, Class C for families) and message your host to confirm bedding, cookware, and a starter propane tank are included.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Sandy%2C%20OregonWhat add-ons and mileage policies should I look for when booking?
Smart question. Hosts in Sandy commonly offer add-ons like generator hours, propane fill, camp chairs and table sets, kitchen kits, bedding and linen packages, bike racks, and pet cleaning fees, all visible on the listing before you book. Mileage policies vary: some hosts include 100 to 150 free miles per night, others offer RV rental with unlimited mileage (great for a Bend or Coast loop), and any extra miles are charged per mile. Pickup and dropoff times are typically late morning to early afternoon to give the host time to clean between trips. Pro tip: if you want delivery, ask the host for a flat-rate delivery quote to your specific campground.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Sandy%2C%20OregonHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is straightforward and fully handled inside RVezy, you will never hand cash or a check to the host. You pay securely through the platform with a credit or debit card at booking, and a refundable security deposit is pre-authorized (not charged) on your card shortly before pickup. As long as the RV comes back in the same shape, the hold is released after your trip. Pro tip: do a quick walk-around video with your host at both pickup and drop-off, this protects everyone and is the single best way to avoid any deposit disputes.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent an RV in Sandy in winter, and how does cold-weather camping work?
Yes, winter RV camping near Sandy is a real adventure. Timberline Lodge offers one of the longest ski seasons in North America, and Mt. Hood Village RV Resort and Sandy Riverfront RV Resort stay open all winter with heated hookups. Look for RV listings that mention four-season packages, heated holding tanks, enclosed underbellies, and electric shore power, then plan to stay where you can plug in (freezing temps and freshwater tanks do not mix). Carry chains in season per Oregon DOT, and check TripCheck.com before driving the pass. Pro tip: a family RV trip in Sandy in winter means hot cocoa, snow days at Timberline, and far fewer crowds.
