Best time to visit Peace Arch Historical State Park

Late spring through early fall, roughly May to September, offers the most reliable weather, with warm sunny days, peak garden blooms, and long daylight hours ideal for picnicking and photos. July and August bring the busiest crowds and heaviest border traffic, so weekday visits are calmer. Shoulder months like April and October are quieter and still mild, though showers are more frequent. Winter visits are possible since the park stays open year-round, but expect cool, wet weather and limited garden color.

Things to do at Peace Arch Historical State Park

  • Visit the Peace Arch Monument Easy
    RV parking available

The Peace Arch is the centerpiece of the park, a white concrete monument straddling the U.S. and Canadian border. Built to commemorate lasting peace between the two countries, it was the first monument of its kind in the world. Walk up to read the inscriptions on either side and snap photos beneath the iconic arch. bcparks.ca/peace-arch-park/

  • Stroll the International Gardens Easy
    RV parking available

Formal flower gardens, manicured lawns, and a lily pond stretch across the boundary between the U.S. and Canadian sections of the park. The Canadian side features a flower garden planted in the shape of the Canadian flag, while the Washington side offers themed bed displays and shaded benches. The flat, paved walking paths are suitable for all ages and mobility levels.

  • Picnic at the Park Shelters Easy
    RV parking available

Peace Arch is one of the region's most popular picnic destinations, with covered shelters, open-air tables, and grills available on both sides of the border. Heritage Hall on the Canadian side and reservable shelters on the Washington side accommodate family gatherings and group events. Bring food from either country, since the park grounds themselves do not require customs clearance. bcparks.ca/peace-arch-park/

  • Cross-Border Photo Walk Easy
    RV parking available

Walk freely between the United States and Canada within the park grounds for a unique two-country photo opportunity. Markers, plaques, and commemorative stones throughout the lawns identify the international boundary. Remember that returning to your vehicle requires going through the official Peace Arch border crossing if you have driven across.

  • Attend a Seasonal Event or Ceremony

The park hosts occasional cross-border ceremonies, concerts, and weddings on its lawns, including events tied to Canada Day and U.S. Independence Day in early July. Free outdoor performances and gatherings often take place during summer weekends. Check the Washington State Parks calendar before visiting for current event listings.

  • Beachcomb at Nearby Semiahmoo Bay Easy
    RV parking available

Just minutes from the park, Semiahmoo Spit and Blaine Marine Park offer tidal beaches, birdwatching, and views of the Salish Sea. RV travelers can drive a short distance west to access wide parking areas and waterfront trails. The combination pairs well with a Peace Arch stop on a single day trip.

  • Tour the Historic Cornerstone and Iron Gates Easy
    RV parking available

The base of the arch contains a hollow cornerstone holding pieces of the Hudson's Bay ship Beaver and the Mayflower, sealed inside by Sam Hill, the businessman who championed the monument. The arch's iron gates are kept permanently open to symbolize peace between the two nations. Interpretive plaques nearby tell the full story. bcparks.ca/peace-arch-park/

We had a fantastic experience renting an RV from David at RV Easy. From start to finish, the process was smooth, professional, and stress-free. The delivery was right on time, and David took the time to thoroughly walk us through the trailer, explaining how everything worked and reviewing any pre-existing wear or damage. Throughout our trip, he was quick to respond to any questions we had and even came out promptly to help us with an issue we couldn't figure out ourselves. The pickup process was just as easy and hassle-free as the delivery. David was professional, knowledgeable, and clearly takes pride in providing excellent customer service. We felt completely confident both in his abilities and in the quality of the trailer we rented. I would highly recommend David to anyone considering an RV rental. We will definitely be renting from him again in the future!

david was a great host, very responsive with messages and flexible with pick up when our plans shifted. It was our first family camping trip with the kids and we had a wonderful weekend with the trailer. The kids loved the bunk beds!

Peace Arch Historical State Park, WA, United States

How to get to Peace Arch Historical State Park

The park sits directly off Exit 276, the final northbound exit on Interstate 5 in Washington, just before the Douglas/Peace Arch border crossing. From Bellingham it is about a 25-minute drive (roughly 21 miles) north, from Seattle around 2 hours (110 miles) north, and from Vancouver, BC about 40 km (25 miles) south via Highway 99. Bellingham International Airport (BLI) is the closest airport for fly-and-rent trips, with Seattle-Tacoma International (SEA) and Vancouver International (YVR) as larger alternatives. RV drivers should note that the park itself has no overnight RV access and parking lots have limited large-rig spaces, so oversized motorhomes may want to stage at a nearby campground in Blaine or Birch Bay and visit by tow vehicle.
