Great weekend getaway!

Kami A. - Nov 2024

Great vehicle and friendly owners. This compact camper has a lot of creature comforts while allowing one to maneuver and park in regular parking lots. The van is really easy to drive and handles really nice. The beds were comfortable and IMO accommodate 2 adults (top bed) and 1 adult or 2 kids in the lower bed. We were able to use the bike rack, too, and that worked great for a road bike and mountain bike (I think 2 mountain bikes might not fit unless the handle bars were turned on 1 of them). We didn't use the, generator, heater, hot water, shower, sink, microwave or toilet so I can't comment on them but I wish we rented it longer so we could've taken advantage of all this van has to offer. We would absolutely rent again.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Palmerton, PA

How much does it cost to rent an RV in Palmerton, PA?

RV rental in Palmerton is one of the most affordable ways to explore the Lehigh Valley and Pocono foothills. On RVezy, travel trailers typically start around $90 to $150 per night, campervans run $125 to $200, and larger Class C motorhomes range from $175 to $300 nightly. Summer weekends from June through August and fall foliage in October book up fastest and command peak rates, so reserving early saves money. For a cheap RV rental in Palmerton, look at midweek dates in May or late September when Blue Mountain views are stunning and prices drop. Filter for Instant Book listings to lock in the best value without waiting on host approval.

What license do I need to rent an RV in Palmerton?

A regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Pennsylvania, with no special RV endorsement or Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required for the motorhomes and trailers on RVezy. Approved drivers are generally 25 or older with a valid license, and ID verification happens through the RVezy platform during booking. Visiting from outside the US? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home country's auto association before your trip. Most first-time renters in Palmerton are surprised how straightforward it is, and your host will walk you through the entire RV at pickup so you feel confident before pulling onto Route 209.

What protection is included with my Palmerton RV rental?

Every RVezy booking includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can head out on your Palmerton RV trip with peace of mind. The protection plan covers most physical damage to the RV during your trip, and you choose your coverage level during checkout. It provides substantial financial protection if something unexpected happens on the way to Jim Thorpe or Beltzville State Park. Roadside help is a phone call away if you get a flat or need a jump, day or night. Pick the level that matches your comfort, and you're ready to roll.

What if I need to cancel my Palmerton RV rental?

Booking is low-risk because RVezy sets the cancellation policy, not individual hosts, and it includes a money-back grace period right after you book so you can plan with confidence. The exact refund window depends on how far out your trip is and the circumstances. If your plans shift, you contact RVezy support directly rather than negotiating with the host. The full details live on the RVezy Help Center, but the key takeaway is simple: reserving your Palmerton RV early to lock in the best rigs and dates is a smart move, not a risky one.

Can I bring my dog on a Palmerton RV trip?

Absolutely, and the Lehigh Valley is a fantastic place to travel with a dog. Use the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to find a pet-friendly RV rental in Palmerton, and you'll see plenty of hosts who welcome four-legged guests (some charge a small pet fee, listed upfront). Once you're here, Lehigh Gorge State Park has miles of leashed-dog-friendly rail trail along the river, and Beltzville State Park allows pets in designated areas. Jim Thorpe's historic downtown is dog-welcoming, with outdoor patios and pet-friendly options nearby. Pack a towel for muddy paws after rail trail rides, your host will thank you.

Can the RV be delivered to my campsite in Palmerton?

Yes, RV delivery in Palmerton is one of the best features of booking through RVezy, especially if it's your first time renting an RV. Many local hosts will drive the rig to your campground, set up the leveling jacks, connect the hookups, and walk you through everything so you can focus on enjoying the trip. Popular delivery destinations include Mauch Chunk Lake Park, Hickory Run State Park, and Don Laine Campground right in Palmerton. Filter for Delivery on RVezy to see which hosts offer it (delivery fees are typically based on mileage). It's a game-changer if you'd rather skip driving a 30-foot motorhome your first time out.

Where are the best campgrounds near Palmerton?

You're spoiled for choice. Some of the best campgrounds near Palmerton include Don Laine Campground (a family-run favorite just minutes from town with full hookups and a pool), Mauch Chunk Lake Park in Jim Thorpe (lakefront sites with swimming and kayaking), Hickory Run State Park (over 380 wooded sites near the famous Boulder Field), Beltzville State Park's nearby private campgrounds, and Jim Thorpe Camping Resort with mountain views. For RV camping in Palmerton with quick access to Lehigh Gorge State Park's biking and rafting, Don Laine is hard to beat. Pro tip: state park sites book up to 11 months in advance through the Pennsylvania DCNR reservation system, so plan early for summer weekends.

When is the best time for a Palmerton RV trip?

Late May through mid-October is prime time for RV camping in Palmerton, with the sweet spot being late September through mid-October when Pocono foliage turns vibrant along the Lehigh Gorge. Summer (June to August) brings warm days commonly in the 80s, great for whitewater rafting on the Lehigh River. Spring (April to May) is quieter with temperatures from 55 to 70 degrees and blooming rhododendrons. Winter often dips into the 20s and 30s with snow, and many campgrounds close November through March, though some hosts offer winterized rigs for cold-weather adventures near Blue Mountain Resort. For the best mix of weather, value, and crowds, target the third week of September.

I have never driven an RV. Is Palmerton a good place to start?

Palmerton is one of the friendlier first-time RV destinations on the East Coast. Your host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup covering the generator, slide-outs, water systems, and dump procedures, so you're never left guessing. Local roads like Route 209 and Route 248 are well-maintained, and traffic is lighter than nearby Philadelphia or New York. Stick to travel trailers under 25 feet or Class C motorhomes for your first trip, both easy to maneuver. If even that feels like a stretch, book delivery and let the host park the rig at your campsite. Practice in a quiet lot before heading to your campground.

What happens if something goes wrong on the road?

You're covered. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so help is one phone call away whether you're on I-476 or tucked into a campsite at Hickory Run State Park. Common calls like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and towing are handled quickly. RVezy customer support is also available before, during, and after your trip for anything else, from a tricky propane valve to questions about your host's instructions. Save the RVezy support number in your phone before you leave Palmerton and you'll never feel stuck.

Can I take my RV from Palmerton into Canada or other states?

Yes, multi-state RV road trips from Palmerton are popular and doable. New Jersey is about 30 minutes east, New York State is roughly 90 minutes north, and many travelers head up to the Adirondacks, Vermont, or even Acadia National Park in Maine. Cross-border travel into Canada (think Niagara Falls or Montreal) depends on the host's approval and insurance coverage, so message the host directly through the listing before booking to confirm. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals. Bring your passport for any Canadian border crossing, and double-check the host's mileage allowance for longer routes so you're not surprised at return.

What should I budget for fuel on a Palmerton RV trip?

Fuel is usually the biggest variable cost, but it's easy to estimate. Class C motorhomes in the Palmerton area average 8 to 10 miles per gallon, campervans get 15 to 20 MPG, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (typically 10 to 14 MPG combined). Pennsylvania gas prices typically run a bit higher than the national average due to state fuel taxes, so plan fill-ups along Route 209 in Lehighton or just over the New Jersey border. A weekend trip from Palmerton to Jim Thorpe and back uses well under a tank. Apps like GasBuddy can help you find the best prices on longer hauls.

How far ahead should I book a campground near Palmerton?

Book early and you'll thank yourself. Pennsylvania state parks like Hickory Run, Beltzville, and Lehigh Gorge accept reservations up to 11 months in advance through the official DCNR reservation portal, and summer weekends plus October foliage weeks fill within days of opening. Private campgrounds like Don Laine and Jim Thorpe Camping Resort accept reservations 6 to 12 months out, with shorter windows for midweek stays. For a spontaneous Palmerton RV trip, midweek nights in late May, early June, or September almost always have availability. If state park sites are sold out, check for cancellations 48 hours before your dates, they pop up constantly as plans change.

What are the local driving conditions like around Palmerton?

Palmerton driving is surprisingly RV-friendly. Route 248 and Route 209 are the main arteries through town, both well-paved with gentle grades suitable for any motorhome or travel trailer. The Northeast Extension of I-476 (a toll road, have EZ-Pass or expect a bill by mail) connects you quickly to Philadelphia and Scranton. Watch for steeper climbs heading up to Blue Mountain Resort and the switchbacks toward Jim Thorpe's historic district, where narrow streets aren't ideal for rigs over 28 feet. Winter brings occasional snow and ice November through March, so check PennDOT's 511PA traffic site before traveling. Pro tip: avoid downtown Jim Thorpe on summer Saturdays, park in the larger lots near the train station and walk in.

What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Palmerton?

Campgrounds around Palmerton are well-equipped for a comfortable RV stay. Don Laine Campground offers full hookups (water, electric, sewer), a pool, and laundry. Mauch Chunk Lake Park has electric and water hookups, hot showers, and a dump station. Hickory Run State Park provides modern restrooms, showers, a dump station, and select sites with electric. Most local parks have potable water fill stations and recycling. For dumping tanks mid-trip, Hickory Run and Beltzville State Parks both have free dump stations available to campers, and several Pilot Flying J locations along I-476 offer dumps for a small fee. Pro tip: ask your host whether the RV comes with sewer hose and water filter, almost all do, but confirming saves a Walmart stop.

What's inside the RVs available for rent in Palmerton?

You'll find more comfort than you'd expect. Most motorhome rentals in Palmerton come with a full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, often an oven), a bathroom with toilet and shower, queen or king beds, dinette seating that converts to extra sleeping, air conditioning, and propane furnace heat. Many include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor awning, and onboard generator for off-grid power. Seatbelts are installed for the legal passenger capacity (listed on each listing). Larger Class A and Class C rigs often add washer/dryer combos, while campervan rental in Palmerton tends toward minimalist (think Sprinter vans with kitchenettes and convertible beds). Pro tip: check the listing photos and amenities list for WiFi hotspot or Starlink, increasingly common in the Poconos where cell signal can be spotty.

What add-ons and extras can I get with my Palmerton RV rental?

Hosts in the Palmerton area offer plenty of helpful add-ons to customize your trip. Common extras include camping chairs and tables ($10 to $25), bedding and linen packs ($25 to $50), kitchen kits with pots and pans, bike racks, generators (often included), and propane refills. Many hosts offer delivery and setup as an add-on, especially helpful for first-timers heading to Mauch Chunk Lake or Hickory Run State Park. Pickup is typically at the host's home in Palmerton or nearby Lehighton, Bowmanstown, or Jim Thorpe, with check-in around 1 to 3 PM and check-out by 11 AM. Mileage policies range from 100 free miles per day to fully unlimited, so review each listing's details. Pro tip: bundle add-ons during booking, it's almost always cheaper than buying gear last-minute.

How does payment and the security deposit work?

Payment is simple and secure through the RVezy platform. You pay for the rental, protection plan, and any add-ons at booking using a credit or debit card, with no cash or off-platform payments needed. A refundable security deposit is held separately from the booking payment and released back to your card after the trip if there's no damage or policy issues. To avoid hiccups, do a thorough video walkthrough with your host at pickup and again at drop-off, noting any existing dings on the rig. Keep the dump tanks emptied, return with the same fuel level, and stay within the mileage allowance. Screenshot the odometer and fuel gauge at pickup to make resolving any questions later easier.
