This rental experience will be remembered as “spectacular” overall and this family of 5 will always remember it as a highlight in our lives. This was a lengthy rental of 19 days over 2,200 kms through the Rockies with some big climbs, downhills, narrow roads and tight curves managed by the RV (including one switchback reverse required on the challenging “Yoho Valley Road”). While there is no reverse camera to the rear, backing was easily managed with a quick tutorial to one of the family teens on “reversing safely with a spotter’s signals” (a good video… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4xQzLwgtb88 ). No need for a reverse camera as a result with appropriately adjusted side mirrors which were good on this RV. Gas mileage was not cheap running approx. 3.3 km / L overall but is expected with these rigs so no surprise. Gas prices ranged from $1.20 to $1.36 / L. The owners were simply excellent with us. The owners had prepared the interior in very clean “Martha Stewart” fashion (as described by my wife), and all reasonable items requested for inclusion were offered (BBQ, extra propane tank, dishes, cutlery, towels, bedding, axes, folding chairs, exterior ground carpet, DVD movies). All of these made a big difference for us who flew in for this rental from Ontario. Communication with the owners for information was amazing prior to the rental and lots of great info provided, including meeting us at the airport with the rig and providing a 1 hour tutorial on systems and SOPs. The owners were also available by text during the trip for any small issues or questions we had on RV operations. All systems worked well as advertised and the set up / tear down daily was easy and quick. My wife LOVED the interior layout and design which was fantastic for 2 adults and 3 teens. This RV runs all systems on a 30 amp plug but a 15 amp converter plug was included and used by us frequently where no 30 amp was available. The 15 amp was fine for our uses as well. The generator was also used where no electrical was available and worked fine (slightly noisy but only req’d for maybe an hour in the morning and an hour at night – if at all for AC or furnace). The fridge/freezer was spacious and worked well auto switching from propane to electrical as req’d. The stove worked well on propane. The microwave required the 30 amp hook up or generator to work. Lots of vents and windows to open as desired. The water top ups, grey and black water dumping, water heating, and toilet / sinks worked great. The shower was available but not used (my wife loved the bathroom). The beds were described by the whole family as very comfortable (the master bed was better than ours at home). The slide-out on the master bedroom was easy and efficient. The dinette breakdown into bed was easy and fast. Wooden boards were provided to assist in levelling the unit and worked fine for us. Cupboard space / closet was plentiful with extra storage under the master bed. The only snag for us occurred on the last day just over an hour out of Grande Prairie on rural highway when the engine died and we lost power. I had Roadside Assistance so was lucky as the vehicle was towed and a taxi arrived to transport family to our destination. The owner was great in facilitating last minute solutions. While I don’t have final diagnosis, mechanics who stopped by at the scene believed that the problem was a fuel pump issue (unforeseen before but easily rectified). I was advised by the owner that he had no problems once the RV had been towed to Grande Prairie. The only negative comment was regarding the Roadside Assistance communications folks and the RVezy emergency line. Roadside Assist did arrange the tow and taxi, but asked us to make calls to the RVezy emergency line, RV owner, towing company, and taxi, to ID our exact coordinates and obtain owner wishes. This was difficult for us given the limited cellular service we had in the area of breakdown. The RVezy emergency lines did not work due to “technical difficulties” as described on the message, however they did call us back immediately when I left a voicemail on the general reception line and were most helpful afterwards with arrangements and reimbursing any expenses incurred. I would suggest this needs to be addressed by RVezy to ease stress on renters experiencing similar in future. In the end though, I was happy to have booked flight home with a day’s grace in the itinerary which allowed us to stay on track to fly home after the breakdown. The overall trip was judged by our family as an entire success, very much enjoying our RV home away from home amongst the wonder and beauty of the Rockies and Alberta. Rental price was reasonable for this 1996 RV with 84,500+ kms on the odometer, and has been well maintained. I would always recommend Roadside Assistance for obvious reasons. Thanks to Rob and Lorna for all your advance prep and help throughout on this renter’s first time in a Class C RV (4.5 star ranking). We would definitely return to rent this unit again. Robert and his wife Loren have been extraordinary! We had a few mechanical issues with the RV and they did not hesitate one minute to drive 10 hours down to help us out. I never expected that much service from a renter. I recommend them 100 %.
