Communication
Mike was very communicative and quick to respond — that’s why I went with him — but the accuracy was very poor. I asked a few times for the exact hitch height; I kept getting 2ft. I asked for a picture to confirm if you bottom of coupler or top of ball — still got nothing and just said 2ft. Then I contacted the manufacturer and they told me 18", so I went with that, and luckily that was good.
We picked up the trailer — it was very dirty and filled with other people’s junk in every drawer or shelf. We had to wipe everything down but still weren’t able to use much of the storage or surfaces. We just slept in it. The sheets seemed clean, but everything was so dusty, tough to tell what was clean or dirty. Seems like it’s not really wiped down between customers.
Also, all latches hitches etc .. were greased up just before we picked it up. So every time I touched a latch/door or chains, or the hitch, I was covered in grease. Luckily I had gloves.
Then eventually, when we returned the trailer, there was no one around to receive us. I called the owner, knocked on the door — nothing. I waited a few minutes — still nothing. The owner said if he’s not around to just leave it on the side of the road. I was really concerned leaving it on the side road, especially without a hitch lock since I took my lock with me. I took a lot of pictures and sent them. Mike said you can call his cell anytime, yet he wasn’t able to answer or return any calls until the next morning — more than 17 hours later.
We took a lot of pictures and videos when we dropped it off and sent it via text and RVezy. Then I got a text the next morning saying one of the chocks was missing. I reminded Mike both are there — with pictures — then he found it.
Very disappointed that Mike not only didn’t look at the pictures, he didn’t even do a proper walkaround to check everything, and quickly resorted to charging me for a missing chock. Blame the customer by default and expect the customer to defend themselves. Luckily I had pictures, but honestly, at that point, who cares if anything is missing or the entire trailer is stolen? Mike didn’t care to receive or inspect or answer calls at the time of drop-off — why now blame customers for minor items missing, which weren’t missing at all?
This last experience pretty much sums up the entire experience — no accurate or reliable information, and the owner just seemed absent.
I found out later that the owner was just very busy with a newborn and suffering from a broken leg. I empathize with his circumstances and am happy for him, but renters like me are trying to plan our lives too, and if you can’t meet your end of the rental agreement, then I would appreciate if this was clear in advance — or just don’t rent out at all if you can’t be present as the owner and deliver or provide what is expected.
Mike promised a partial refund given this experience, but I still haven’t received anything. It’s been 5 days — will see if it ever shows up. I don’t think this was reliable and wouldn’t rent again from Mike.
