2024 Coachmen Travel Trailer
Honestly the hsots made the rental process super easy. They provided detail videos that explained all aspects of how to use all the trailer features. The hosts were available by phone and answered we had questions. The trailer is great for familys, and it has lots of storage. We Strongly recommend if you're looking Into getting a travel trailer with a bunkhouse and seperate room. As well rest assured you're well taken care of from start to finish. Oh and the mattress is super comfy. Trailer pulls pretty easy without issue. We never got to use the outdoor shower on the trailer due to how bad the mosquitoes were at the campground we stayed at.

Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Special Area No. 2, AB

How much does it cost to rent an RV in Special Area No. 2, AB?

Good news, an RV rental in Special Area No. 2 is one of the most affordable ways to explore Alberta's prairies and badlands. Travel trailers typically rent for $100 to $200 CAD per night, while Class C motorhomes range from $200 to $350 CAD per night, and bigger Class A motorhomes can run $300 to $450 CAD nightly. Booking midweek or in shoulder season (May or September) is the smart-money move, since weekend rates near Hanna and the Dinosaur Provincial Park area climb fast in July and August. Pro tip: filter by Instant Book and bundle delivery so the host drops the RV at Prairie Oasis Park or Carolside Campground, and you save on a tow vehicle entirely.

What kind of driver's license do I need to rent an RV in Special Area No. 2?

A regular Class 5 Alberta driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Special Area No. 2, with no special RV license or commercial endorsement required for most motorhomes and travel trailers. RVezy approved drivers are generally 25 or older, and ID verification is handled digitally before pickup, so there is no extra paperwork at the door. Visiting from out of province or out of country? Your home license is recognized across Canada, and international guests should bring an International Driving Permit alongside their original license. The only time you would need an air brake (Q) endorsement is for a large diesel Class A, which the host will flag in the listing.

Is there protection and roadside assistance included with my RV rental?

Every RV rental in Special Area No. 2 booked through RVezy comes with a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance included, so you can hit Highway 36 toward Hanna or the back roads to Dinosaur Provincial Park with real peace of mind. You choose your protection level (Standard, Special, or Supreme) during checkout based on how much coverage and how low a deductible you want. If a tire blows on the Veterans Memorial Highway or you need a tow near Pollockville, one call to RVezy roadside dispatches help. Pro tip: review the protection plan details on RVezy before booking so you know exactly what is covered.

What is the cancellation policy if my plans change?

RVezy sets the cancellation policy (not individual hosts), so the same clear rules apply to every booking. You get a grace period right after booking to cancel for a full refund, and the closer your trip start date gets, the tighter the refund window becomes. Special considerations may apply for situations like natural disasters or wildfire smoke advisories, which can occasionally affect the Alberta prairies. The exact terms are shown during checkout and on the RVezy Help Center, so review them before you confirm. Knowing you have an out makes saying yes to a Dinosaur Provincial Park weekend a whole lot easier.

Can I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Special Area No. 2?

Absolutely, plenty of hosts offer pet-friendly RV rental in Special Area No. 2, and you can filter listings by the Pet-Friendly tag to find them in seconds. Dogs are welcome at most local campgrounds too, including Prairie Oasis Park near Hanna and Dinosaur Provincial Park, where leashed pups can join you on the Cottonwood Flats Trail (though pets are not allowed inside the comfort camping units or guided fossil tours). Always message the host first if you have a large breed or more than one pet, so expectations are clear. Pro tip: pack a tie-out stake and extra water, since the prairie sun and badlands heat can climb past 30°C in July.

Can the RV be delivered to my campground in Special Area No. 2?

Yes, RV delivery in Special Area No. 2 is one of the most popular options, especially for first-timers who would rather skip the highway drive entirely. Many hosts will deliver and set up your motorhome or travel trailer right at your campsite at Dinosaur Provincial Park, Prairie Oasis Park, or Little Fish Lake Provincial Park, then walk you through every system, from the propane stove to the freshwater tank. Delivery fees usually run $2 to $4 per kilometre from the host's location, with some hosts offering free delivery within a set radius. This makes a campervan rental Special Area No. 2 feel less like a driving challenge and more like a turnkey cabin on wheels.

How far can I drive, and what is the mileage policy?

You will have plenty of room to roam. Hosts set their own mileage allowances on RVezy, and the daily kilometre limit is shown right on the listing before you book, with many offering 200 to 400 km per day and some offering RV rental with unlimited mileage. From Special Area No. 2, that easily covers a Hanna to Dinosaur Provincial Park loop (about 130 km one way), a run to Drumheller and the Royal Tyrrell Museum (around 150 km), or a weekend down to Brooks (roughly 120 km). If you are planning a longer Alberta loop including Calgary or Banff, filter for unlimited mileage listings or message the host to discuss a higher cap upfront.

What are the best campgrounds near Special Area No. 2?

The best campgrounds near Special Area No. 2 are surprisingly varied for a prairie region. Prairie Oasis Park (20 minutes south of Hanna on Highway 36) is a 2025 Campspot award winner with full-service sites, a marina, and a free sani-dump. Carolside Campground sits on Sullivan Lake and is great for paddlers and anglers. Little Fish Lake Provincial Park offers quiet, lakefront RV camping Special Area No. 2 with electrical hookups. Dinosaur Provincial Park Campground, just south of the region, has 120-plus RV-friendly sites tucked into UNESCO badlands. Pro tip: Dinosaur and Little Fish Lake book up fast for July and August weekends, so reserve through Alberta Parks the moment your 90-day booking window opens.

When is the best time of year for an RV trip in Special Area No. 2?

Late May through mid-September is prime time for an RV trip in Special Area No. 2, when daytime highs hover between 18°C and 25°C and the prairie skies stretch on forever. July is the warmest month, averaging 25°C during the day and 11°C at night, and it brings the most sunshine (over 12 hours daily) — perfect for badlands hikes. June sees the most rainfall (around 95 mm), so pack a rain jacket for those quick prairie thunderstorms. September is the insider's pick: smaller crowds at Dinosaur Provincial Park, cooler hiking weather, and golden cottonwoods along the Red Deer River make a Special Area No. 2 RV trip feel almost private.

What if it is my first time renting an RV?

You are going to do great. First time renting an RV in Special Area No. 2 is easier than most people expect, because every RVezy host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through the water system, propane, slide-outs, awning, and dump procedures before you drive away. The prairies around Hanna and Pollockville are flat, straight, and lightly trafficked, making them an ideal training ground compared to mountain driving. You can also message the host through the listing with any question before you book. Pro tip: choose a Class C motorhome or smaller travel trailer for your first trip, since they drive more like a large pickup than a bus.

What happens if I have a breakdown or need help on the road?

You are never on your own out there. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, covering things like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and towing if the RV cannot continue. Cell coverage is spotty in parts of Special Area No. 2, particularly near Dinosaur Provincial Park and Pollockville, so save the roadside number in your phone before you head out and consider downloading offline maps. The RVezy support team is reachable before, during, and after your trip if anything else comes up. Pro tip: a quick text to your host often solves small quirks fastest, since they know their RV inside out.

What is a good RV road trip from Special Area No. 2?

An RV road trip from Special Area No. 2 puts some of Alberta's best landscapes within easy reach. Drive 130 km south to Dinosaur Provincial Park (about 90 minutes) for UNESCO badlands and fossil tours. Head 150 km west to Drumheller and the Royal Tyrrell Museum for a half-day of dinosaur history. Continue 280 km southwest to Calgary (3 hours) for city stops, or stretch a week-long loop all the way to Banff National Park, roughly 420 km away. Cross-border trips into the U.S. are allowed on many RVezy rentals (confirm with your host first), but Mexico travel is not permitted due to insurance limitations.

What should I budget for fuel during my Special Area No. 2 RV trip?

Fuel is one of the bigger trip costs, but it is predictable in Alberta. Most Class C motorhomes get 15 to 20 litres per 100 km, Class A motorhomes burn 25 to 30 litres per 100 km, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (usually 18 to 25 litres per 100 km when hooked up). Alberta typically has some of the lowest gas prices in Canada, often $1.30 to $1.55 per litre. A weekend loop of about 400 km in a Class C will run roughly $90 to $120 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up in Hanna or Brooks before heading deeper into Special Area No. 2, since gas stations are sparse east of Highway 36.

How far in advance should I book a campground in Special Area No. 2?

Book early for the best sites. Alberta Parks opens reservations 90 days in advance for Dinosaur Provincial Park and Little Fish Lake Provincial Park, and the powered riverside sites at Dinosaur Campground are usually claimed within hours for July and August weekends. Reservations are made through the official Alberta Parks reservation system online or by phone. Private campgrounds like Prairie Oasis Park use Campspot and tend to fill 4 to 8 weeks ahead for summer holidays. Pro tip: if your dates are flexible, target a Sunday-to-Thursday stretch — you will find availability even in peak season, and the prairie nights are quieter without the weekend crowd.
albertaparks.ca/albertaparksca/visit-our-parks/reservations/

What are local driving conditions like in Special Area No. 2?

Driving in Special Area No. 2 is some of the easiest RV territory in Canada. Roads are flat, straight, and traffic is light, with Highway 36 (the Veterans Memorial Highway) and Highway 9 being the main paved routes through the region. Watch for crosswinds on open prairie stretches, which can push a high-profile RV around, and slow down on gravel side roads heading to backcountry spots like Little Fish Lake. Wildlife on the road (deer, antelope, occasionally cattle) is the main hazard, especially at dawn and dusk. Pro tip: check 511 Alberta before you set out, since spring thaw and August thunderstorms can briefly flood low-lying sections.
511.alberta.ca/

What amenities can I expect at campgrounds in Special Area No. 2?

Campgrounds in Special Area No. 2 punch above their weight on amenities. Prairie Oasis Park near Hanna has full hookups (power, water, sewer at many sites), a free sani-dump station, beach access, a marina, and a camp store. Dinosaur Provincial Park Campground offers powered and pull-through sites, flush toilets, hot showers, laundry, and a sani-dump (water is shut off from early October to early May). Little Fish Lake has electrical sites and a dump station. Most provincial sites include fire pits and picnic tables. Pro tip: top up your fresh water tank in Hanna before heading to more remote spots, since fill stations thin out east of Highway 36.

What features and amenities are inside a typical RV rental?

A typical motorhome rental Special Area No. 2 comes far better equipped than most first-timers expect. Class C and Class A motorhomes include a full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink), a bathroom with toilet and shower, sleeping for 4 to 8 people, air conditioning, furnace heat, and seatbelts for passengers while driving. Many also have a TV, Bluetooth stereo, awning, and outdoor speakers. Travel trailers and fifth wheels offer similar interiors but need a tow vehicle. Wi-Fi is rarely built in (prairie cell coverage is the bottleneck anyway), but many hosts offer hotspot rentals as an add-on. Pro tip: ask the host for a gear list so you know exactly what is included before packing.
alberta.ca/rvs-and-travel-trailers

What add-ons and pickup options are commonly available?

Hosts offer a great mix of add-ons to customize your RV rental in Alberta. Popular extras include bedding and linen kits, kitchen kits with pots and dishes, camping chairs and outdoor tables, generators, bike racks, propane refills, and Starlink or hotspot Wi-Fi, with exact pricing shown on each listing. Delivery and setup to Dinosaur Provincial Park, Prairie Oasis Park, or your driveway is widely available, with fees usually based on distance. Mileage is set per listing, look for unlimited mileage options if you are planning a big Alberta loop. Pro tip: bundle bedding, kitchen kit, and delivery into one booking so you arrive to a fully ready RV without hauling gear from home.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Special%20Area%20No.%202%2C%20Alberta

How does payment and the security deposit work?

Payment is simple and secure through the RVezy platform. You pay for your booking by credit card at checkout, and funds are held safely until your trip begins, so neither you nor the host is exposed. A refundable security deposit is pre-authorized (not charged) on your card a few days before pickup and released after a smooth return, typically within a few business days. The deposit amount is shown on the listing and is separate from your booking payment. Pro tip: take date-stamped photos of the RV's interior and exterior at pickup and dropoff, it is the easiest way to avoid any deposit disputes later.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-works

Can I rent an RV in Special Area No. 2 in winter, and is it worth it?

Yes, winter RV rental in Special Area No. 2 is possible and can be a genuine adventure if you are prepared. Some hosts list four-season RVs with heated holding tanks, enclosed underbellies, and strong furnaces — message hosts directly to confirm winter readiness before booking. Dinosaur Provincial Park keeps about 65 sites open year-round on a first-come basis, though water is shut off from early October to early May (the sani-dump stays open). Daytime temperatures from December to February average -5°C and nights drop to -16°C or colder, so plan shore power and bring extra blankets. Pro tip: clear skies and snow-dusted hoodoos make for unreal photography, and you might have the badlands to yourself.
