2016 Forest River Travel Trailer
This was the best choice for our family of 5! The trailer is very clean, unbelievably spacious, and comes with everything you need to have a fun and memorable trip. We drove around 300 miles to the Adirondacks and because of the included sway bars, plus newer tires, we felt confident the whole time, despite major storms on highways. Dave and Maureen are wonderful hosts, communicating with us while on the trip, checking to make sure we were ok and getting on alright. This is a definite recommend because regardless of newer models out there, you won't truly have everything that comes with this. The pop-out beds are so fun, it's like sleeping in a hammock, and the many leveling jacks ensured our safety. Look no further than this awesome trailer!!

What if my plans change after I book my Sheridan RV?

Booking your Sheridan RV trip is low-risk. RVezy sets a platform-wide cancellation policy (hosts do not set their own, and it is not displayed in individual listings), and it includes a money-back grace period right after you book so you can lock in dates with confidence. When is the best time to take a Sheridan RV trip?

Mid-June through mid-September is the sweet spot. Sheridan summers are short, dry, and beautiful, with July highs around 85°F and cool nights in the 50s that are perfect for campfires. June brings wildflowers and the wettest weather (still only about 2.4 inches of rain). The Sheridan WYO Rodeo in mid-July and Don King Days over Labor Day weekend are bucket-list events. Shoulder season in May and late September offers cheaper rates and stunning fall color in the Bighorns, though high-elevation campgrounds like Sibley Lake may close by early October. Winter (December to February) drops to teens and single digits with regular snow. Pro tip: late August through mid-September is the local insider's favorite, warm days, no bugs, and elk bugling in the foothills.

I have never rented an RV before. How do Sheridan hosts help first-timers?

First time renting an RV? You will be in great hands in Sheridan. Every RVezy host provides an in-person walkthrough at pickup, showing you the basics: how to hook up water and power, dump tanks, run the generator, deploy the awning, and operate the propane stove and furnace. Many Sheridan hosts also send a video orientation ahead of time so you arrive prepared. RVezy's 24/7 support and included roadside assistance back you up if anything feels off-script on the road. Pro tip: start with a smaller Class C motorhome or travel trailer and book a campground 20 minutes away (like the KOA on Decker Road) for night one, so you can practice setup before tackling the Bighorn Scenic Byway the next morning.

Pro tip: snap photos of the RV at pickup and save your host's number plus RVezy support to your phone before leaving Sheridan, cell service thins out in the Bighorns.

Can I take my Sheridan RV rental to Yellowstone, Montana, or across state lines?

Yes, that is the magic of an RV road trip from Sheridan. Most RVezy hosts allow travel throughout the Lower 48, so you can roll west on I-90 to Bozeman (about 280 miles), south and west to Yellowstone's North Entrance at Gardiner (around 320 miles), east to the Black Hills and Mount Rushmore (roughly 280 miles), or south to Grand Teton National Park (about 350 miles). Cross-border travel into Canada is sometimes allowed with host approval and added insurance steps. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals. Pro tip: message the host before booking with your route so they can confirm mileage allowances and any state-specific notes. Wyoming's I-90 corridor through Sheridan makes multi-park loops surprisingly easy.
nps.gov/yell/planyourvisit/directions.htm

What should I budget for fuel on a Sheridan RV trip?

Fuel is one of the easier expenses to plan. Wyoming gas prices typically run slightly below the national average, and Sheridan has several fuel stops right off I-90 exits 20, 23, and 25 including Loaf 'N Jug and Maverik with diesel pumps sized for big rigs. Expect roughly 8 to 10 miles per gallon (MPG) for a Class A, 10 to 14 MPG for a Class C, 12 to 18 MPG when towing a travel trailer, and 18 to 22 MPG for a campervan. A round-trip from Sheridan to Yellowstone's Northeast Entrance via the Beartooth Highway (about 500 miles total) lands around $150 to $250 in fuel for most motorhomes. Pro tip: top up in Sheridan before heading into the Bighorns, mountain-town gas costs noticeably more.

How far in advance should I reserve a campsite near Sheridan?

Earlier is better, but you have options. For Bighorn National Forest campgrounds like Tie Flume, Sibley Lake, Dead Swede, and Prune Creek, reservations open six months ahead on Recreation.gov and July and August weekends often fill within days of release. Private RV parks in Sheridan like the KOA, Peter D's, The Station, and Dalton's Jackalope typically book two to three months out for peak summer, sooner for WYO Rodeo week (mid-July) and Don King Days (Labor Day weekend). Many Bighorn forest sites also keep a portion first-come, first-served, so weekday arrivals can snag walk-ins. Pro tip: build flexibility into your route, if a forest campground is full, Connor Battlefield State Historic Site in Ranchester rarely is.

What are local driving conditions like around Sheridan?

Sheridan is one of the friendlier RV-driving towns in the Rockies. I-90 cuts right through with wide lanes, gentle grades, and easy big-rig exits. Around town, Main Street, Coffeen Avenue, and Fifth Street all handle RVs without drama. The real adventure starts west of town: US-14 over Granite Pass climbs to 9,033 feet and US-14A over Burgess Junction tops out at 9,430 feet with steep 10% grades, switchbacks, and a strong recommendation against towing long trailers on 14A. The Bighorn Scenic Byway (US-14) is the gentler choice. Watch for wind gusts on I-90 east toward Gillette and deer at dawn and dusk. Pro tip: check Wyoming 511 (wyoroad.info) for real-time road conditions before crossing the Bighorns, especially May, September, and October when snow can surprise you.

What hookups and amenities do Sheridan campgrounds offer?

You'll find excellent infrastructure. Most private RV parks in Sheridan, including the KOA on Decker Road, Peter D's, The Station, and Dalton's Jackalope, offer full hookups (50/30/20-amp electric, water, and sewer), free WiFi, hot showers, laundry, and dump stations. Bighorn National Forest campgrounds are more rustic with vault toilets, potable water spigots, and no hookups, perfect for boondocking with a generator or solar. Public dump stations are available at the KOA and Peter D's for a small fee even if you're not staying. Pro tip: fill your fresh water tank in Sheridan before heading up into the Bighorns, and dump on your way back down. Cell service is solid in town but spotty above 7,500 feet, so download offline maps before you climb.

Most Sheridan listings also include bedding, towels, camp chairs, an outdoor table, and a freshwater hose. Campervans are more minimal but include a bed, cooler or fridge, and basic cooking gear. Generators are standard on Class A and Class C motorhomes for off-grid power in the Bighorns. Pro tip: check the listing's seatbelt count if you're traveling with kids, Wyoming law requires every passenger to be belted while the RV is moving.

Hosts set their own mileage policies (often 100 to 150 free miles per night) and pickup windows, with most pickups happening between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the host's home, a Sheridan park-and-ride near I-90 exit 20, or via delivery. Generator hours, dumping, and propane refills may be included or charged separately, the listing spells it out clearly. Pro tip: ask the host to add a Starlink or hotspot if you're working remotely, cell coverage drops fast once you leave I-90 for the Bighorns.

It is straightforward and secure. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment, typically a few days before pickup, and is released after drop-off assuming no damage or extra cleaning is needed. Major credit and debit cards are accepted. Pro tip: do a full walkaround video with the host at both pickup and drop-off in their Sheridan driveway, timestamped photos of the tires, exterior, and interior are the easiest way to ensure your deposit comes back fast.

Can I rent an RV in Sheridan during winter, and is cold-weather camping doable?

Yes, winter RVing in Sheridan is a real adventure for the prepared. Some RVezy hosts keep four-season rigs available year-round, with heated holding tanks, enclosed underbellies, electric tank pad heaters, and high-output propane furnaces that handle Sheridan's January lows around 10°F. Most winter campers plug into 30/50-amp shore power at The Station RV Park or Peter D's (both stay open into winter shoulder seasons), so the furnace doesn't drain propane overnight. Bighorn National Forest campgrounds close from roughly mid-October through May. Pro tip: filter listings for four-season or winterized RVs, ask about insulated water hose and tank heater operation during the walkthrough, and watch for snow on I-90, Wyoming wind can turn a flurry into a ground blizzard fast.
