Criteria for the campers on our list

We dug deep when putting together our list of small campers with bathrooms. We walked through the campers at the RV shows, talked to real RV owners to get their thoughts, and analyzed what people were saying online.

Please note every small camper on our list:

  • Comes with either a wet bath or a dry bath.
  • Weighs between 3,500 to 5,000 pounds fully loaded.
  • Extends between 15 and 22 feet long.

RV terminology

Wet bath

Wet baths are compact restrooms usually found on small trailers, campervans, and truck campers. A wet bath is a shower-toilet combination room constructed out of lightweight components made to get wet, and they're basically a toilet placed inside a shower.

RV manufacturers put wet baths inside campers for convenience, not luxury, and for some people, a small wet bath is better than no bathroom. In addition, wet baths take up less space inside an RV and don't require large holding tanks, which help keep tiny trailers and small campers within an ideal weight range for safe towing or driving.

Dry bath

Dry baths resemble residential restrooms and have a separate toilet and shower, a sink, a mirror, and a built-in vanity. Since the toilet doesn't sit inside the shower, you don't need to wipe down wet walls and floors to use the toilet after taking a shower.

Since longer RVs are typically built on stronger frames and chassis, they can handle more weight. More weight means manufacturers have more room to add residential-type components and larger holding tanks.

Dry versus fully loaded

Before you rent or buy a small camper, you should first determine how much weight your vehicle can tow safely. Manufacturers assign every car, truck, and recreational vehicle a weight rating to ensure the vehicle's components operate properly under varying conditions. Consult your owner's manual to find how much weight your vehicle can tow or carry.

For this article, we've broken down the weight of each small camper according to the RV manufacturer's specifications and included two weight categories: dry and fully loaded.

Dry

Dry weight is the weight of the RV shipped from the manufacturer and doesn't include propane, liquids, passengers, or other cargo.

Fully loaded

Fully-loaded weight, or GVWR (gross vehicle weight rating), is calculated by adding the weight of propane, liquids, passengers, and other cargo to the RV's dry weight. You should never exceed the manufacturer's GVWR (fully-loaded weight).
