Campgrounds and RV parks near Unipouheos 121, AB

Whitney Lakes Provincial Park is the main draw. Power boating and canoeing are permitted on Whitney, Ross, and Laurier lakes, with canoe-only access on Borden Lake, and anglers target perch and pike. More than 30 kilometres of trails link the lakes through forest and shoreline, with strong birdwatching opportunities; more than 145 bird and waterfowl species have been recorded in the park. Sandy Beach Regional Park north of Lloydminster pairs a sand beach and swim raft with a nine-hole grass-green golf course, playground, and concession, which works well for families with younger kids. Kehiwin Lake supports fishing from a boat launch and pier. Frog Lake National Historic Site is also nearby.

Most provincial campgrounds in the region run from mid-May to the end of September, with the May long weekend marking the start of peak demand. Whitney Lakes and most Alberta Parks individual sites open the reservation window 90 days before arrival, so May long-weekend dates typically come available in February and book quickly. Sandy Beach Regional Park runs its camping season from May through September, with long-term spots opening on January 15 and short-term sites opening on March 1. June brings the wettest weather of the year and the highest mosquito pressure in the boreal forest. July and August are warm and busiest for beach days, paddling, and boat traffic on Whitney, Ross, and Laurier lakes. September cools quickly and quiets down, with good fishing and fewer bugs. Winters are frigid; most lake-country campgrounds are closed, though Whitney Lakes day-use areas remain open for activities like cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and ice fishing.

Sites in this area are typical of boreal Alberta: well-treed pull-throughs and back-ins on gravel pads, fire pits, picnic tables, and either potable taps or hand pumps. Ross Lake has 150 well-treed campsites, with 144 powered sites and a wheelchair-accessible site, plus a shower house, tap water, a playground, sanitary dump station, and a camp store stocked with supplies, ice, firewood, and treats. Whitney Lake adds a natural sand beach and 53 sites, 33 with power. Kehiwin Lake offers basic facilities and a boat launch. Cell coverage is variable away from Bonnyville and Highway 28. This is bear country; food and scented items must be stored properly.
