Campgrounds and RV parks near Skagway, AK

Skagway sits at the north end of Alaska's Lynn Canal, wedged between the Coast Mountains and tidewater. It serves as the road gateway to the Yukon via the South Klondike Highway and as the launch point for the historic Chilkoot Trail. The town is small and walkable, but the surrounding public lands, national historical park, state recreation sites, and salmon rivers give RV travelers plenty of ground to cover from a single base. Campground options fall into two clusters. In and just outside Skagway, Oceanside RV Park and Salmon Run RV Campground and Cabins handle rigs that need hookups, while Dyea Campground inside Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park offers a rustic, forested alternative near the Chilkoot Trailhead. Across Lynn Canal, reachable by Alaska Marine Highway ferry, Haines Hitch-Up RV Park and Chilkoot Lake State Recreation Site round out the area's core options. Planning around ferry schedules, the short cruise-ship season, and snow-free access windows matters more here than in most Lower 48 destinations.

Booking systems vary by operator. Chilkoot Lake State Recreation Site is reserved through the Alaska State Parks portal on ReserveAmerica: reservations must be made at least one day ahead of arrival and can be made up to seven months in advance. Private parks such as Oceanside RV Park, Salmon Run RV Campground and Cabins, and Haines Hitch-Up RV Park take direct reservations by phone or through their own websites, and summer weeks fill early. Dyea Campground inside Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park does not offer reservations. All sites are first come, first served with self-registration at the campground, and vehicles over 26 feet are prohibited on National Park Service roads at Dyea, including the campground itself.
