Campgrounds near Blakely, Georgia
Blakely sits in Early County in southwest Georgia, near the Chattahoochee River and the Alabama state line. It functions as a practical base for RV travelers exploring the Lower Chattahoochee River Valley, with campgrounds ranging from a state historic park to small private RV parks in the surrounding countryside.
The headline option is Kolomoki Mounds Historic Park, a Georgia State Park just north of Blakely that protects one of the oldest and largest Woodland-period mound complexes in the southeastern United States. The campground sits under hardwoods and pines along Lake Kolomoki and is booked through the Georgia State Parks reservation system.
Private parks fill in the gaps. Omussee Creek RV Park lies across the Chattahoochee near the Alabama line, while Koi RV Resort, City Limits RV Resort, and Todd Farms RV Park serve travelers who want full hookups, longer pull-throughs, or a stopover on the way to the Florida Panhandle. Most private parks in this corridor take reservations by phone or through their own websites.
Things to do around Blakely
The main draw is Kolomoki Mounds Historic Park itself. Visitors can walk to the 57-foot temple mound and several smaller ceremonial and burial mounds, hike the Spruce Pine, Trillium, and White Oak trails, and rent canoes, kayaks, jon boats, or pedal boats at the park office. Two lakes, Kolomoki and Yohola, are open for fishing (Georgia license required) and hold bass, bream, and catfish.
Families with kids will find a playground and miniature golf inside the park. Ranger-led programs and guided tours of the mound site are offered in place of a museum experience; the on-site museum is currently closed while the Georgia DNR complies with updated NAGPRA regulations, so call the park office before counting on a museum visit.
Beyond the park, day trips reach the Chattahoochee River, Lake Seminole, and Providence Canyon State Park to the north.

Southwest Georgia has a humid subtropical climate with long, hot summers and short, mild winters. Spring and fall are the most comfortable stretches for RV travel: daytime highs sit in the 70s and 80s, humidity is lower than in summer, and afternoon thunderstorms are less frequent. March through May and October into November are widely considered the sweet spot for camping in this part of the state.
Summer is hot and muggy. Highs commonly reach the low 90s, dew points climb, and thunderstorms are frequent, especially in July and August. The Atlantic hurricane season runs June through November, with peak activity in August and September; tropical systems moving inland from the Gulf can bring heavy rain and wind to Early County.
Winter is mild and rarely brings snow, which makes Blakely a workable cool-season stop. Kolomoki Mounds Historic Park stays open year-round, but its small 25-site campground fills quickly on holiday weekends and during spring break, so early booking matters.
How to book
Kolomoki Mounds Historic Park is reserved through the Georgia State Parks system, which uses ReserveAmerica for online bookings and a central reservations line for phone bookings. Sites can be booked up to 13 months in advance. The campground has 25 sites with 30-amp electric and water hookups, both back-in and pull-through, with some sites accommodating rigs up to about 79 feet. A daily ParkPass is required per vehicle in addition to the campsite fee, and an annual pass is available for frequent visitors.
Omussee Creek RV Park, Koi RV Resort, City Limits RV Resort, and Todd Farms RV Park are independent operations. Book those directly by phone or through the park's own website. For spring, fall, and holiday weekends, reserve several weeks out; state park sites near the water are the first to go.
What to expect on the ground
Blakely is a small county seat, so expect a rural setting with limited big-box shopping. Groceries, fuel, and basic RV supplies are available in town; larger repair shops and specialty parts are more reliably found in Dothan, Alabama, roughly 30 miles west. Cell service around Kolomoki Mounds Historic Park is spotty, with weaker coverage on some carriers, so download maps and reservations in advance.
Sites at Kolomoki Mounds sit under a hardwood and pine canopy along Lake Kolomoki, with picnic tables, fire rings, and access to bathhouses with hot showers and a dump station. WiFi is available at the park office rather than campsite-side. Wildlife includes white-tailed deer, raccoons, foxes, and occasional coyotes, and biting insects are active from late spring through early fall, so pack repellent.
