Southwest Georgia has a humid subtropical climate with hot, humid summers and mild winters. Measurable snow is effectively unheard of, and most campgrounds in the area operate year-round. Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel. Daytime highs are warm but manageable, humidity is lower than in midsummer, and wildflowers and pecan groves along the roadways are at their best. Rain falls in every month, but spring storms and late-summer thunderstorms bring the heaviest downpours. Summer brings intense heat, high humidity, and biting insects. Gnats and mosquitoes are common near water, so shaded sites and full-hookup power for air conditioning become priorities. Late summer and early fall also fall within Atlantic hurricane season; tropical remnants can push heavy rain inland and briefly affect riverside sites. Winter is short and mild, with cool nights and generally quiet campgrounds, though occasional cold snaps can drop overnight lows near freezing.
