Campgrounds and RV parks near Ashmore, IL

Ashmore sits in Coles County in east-central Illinois, surrounded by farmland and pocketed woodlands along the Embarras River corridor. RV travelers use it as a base for two nearby state parks and a private KOA within short driving distance, all reachable on paved county roads. The closest option is Gray Squirrel at Walnut Point State Park, which offers RV sites with electrical hookups and no full hookups. A short drive south, Fox Ridge State Park runs a campground with 43 sites, electricity at each site, a shower building, and shared water. Farther east near the Indiana line, Lincoln Trail State Park has two Class A campgrounds with 220 total campsites, with Lakeside Campground offering 100 Class A sites plus 20 tent-only sites and Plainview offering 110 Class A sites. For travelers who want private-park amenities, Casey KOA and Mill Creek Park round out the local options. The mix works well for families rotating between fishing lakes, hiking trails, and a quiet home base each night.

Illinois state parks use one reservation platform. Camping reservations at Fox Ridge are available online at ExploreMoreIL, and the same system handles Walnut Point and Lincoln Trail. Create an account before your trip so you can move quickly when a preferred site opens. The Fox Ridge campground features both reservable sites and first-come, first-served options, so booking reservable sites well in advance is wise for summer weekends and holidays. All campers must obtain camping permits before entering the campground at Lincoln Trail, so allow time at check-in. Casey KOA and Mill Creek Park handle bookings through their own websites or by phone.
