Campgrounds and RV parks near Bellevue, IL

Fishing, hiking, and paddling drive most trips here. Jubilee College State Park has multi-use trails, picnic areas, and a playground that suit families, with fishing on Jubilee Creek for bluegill and catfish. Sand Ridge State Forest is the standout for hikers. Foot travel is allowed on over 44 miles of walking trails and on fire lines, and visitors can walk beneath grand oak and hickory canopies, watch the sun set through the pines, or observe wildflowers on rare surviving patches of sand prairie. The forest also holds sand trails and prickly pear cactus, uncommon features for central Illinois. At Sankoty Lakes, three lakes 60 to 75 feet deep are fed by the Sankoty Aquifer, plus a mile-long stocked trout stream, along with a beach, kayaks, paddleboards, and boat rentals.

The main camping season runs roughly mid-April through late October. Campground facilities at Jubilee College State Park are open from April 15 to November 1 and accommodate RVs or tents with a shower building, flush toilets, a trailer dump station, graveled pads and grills, water hydrants, and primitive toilets. Kentuckiana Campground in Mackinaw runs a similar window, open May 1 through October 31. Winter camping is limited but not impossible. At Jubilee College, the Coyote Cove loop stays open to winter camping with Class B electric sites and primitive privies, though no running water is available. Sand Ridge stays accessible through winter for a different reason: the forest maintains 26 miles of snowmobile trails, open around the clock when at least four inches of snow are on the ground, and cross-country skiing is permitted when snow cover is sufficient. Spring thaw brings mud and closures on soft-surface trails, and the equestrian area may close during wet conditions, so call ahead after heavy rain.

Site styles vary widely across this cluster. At Jubilee College State Park, sites accommodate tents, trailers, and RVs, with electric hookups, a table, fire ring, and grill at each site, plus a shower building and dump station. Sand Ridge is more rustic: each Pine Camp site includes a fire pad and a place to park two vehicles, water spigots and vault toilets serve the loop, and there are no electric, water, or sewer hookups. Generators are allowed. The campground is not big-rig friendly, and Class B rigs, small Class C rigs, and trailers under about 22 feet fit best. Private parks lean the other direction. Kentuckiana offers full-hookup pull-through sites with 30 and 50-amp service on concrete pads, and Sankoty Lakes has roughly 20 pull-through RV sites with 30 and 50-amp hookups, water, sewer, a picnic table, and a fire pit.
