Campgrounds and RV parks near Bismarck, IL

Bismarck sits in Vermilion County in east-central Illinois, just off I-74 and roughly ten minutes north of Danville. The village is a practical base for RV travelers exploring the Middle Fork Vermilion River corridor, which holds the only National Scenic River in Illinois and two of the state's largest recreation areas. The closest public camping is at Middle Fork State Fish and Wildlife Area Equestrian, which offers Class C, D, and equestrian camping facilities, with additional camping classes at nearby Kickapoo State Recreation Area. Kickapoo sits five miles south of the Middle Fork property, and its Redear Campground is set within a park that covers 2,842 acres in Vermilion County with 221 acres of ponds and lakes and nearly 35 miles of hiking trails. Private options fill in the gaps. Off the Trail Vacation Rentals & Campground and Charlarose Lake and Campground add lake access and hookup-style sites, while Turkey Run Campground, across the Indiana line, gives RV travelers a second nearby state-park anchor for longer loops.

Illinois state sites use one system. Kickapoo features two major campgrounds for tent or trailer camping, with online reservations available at ExploreMoreIL, and reservations can be made at least three days in advance, while non-reserved sites are available upon arrival with a two-night maximum on walk-ups. The Redear Campground at Kickapoo is a tent-oriented loop, so RV travelers should filter for electric sites at the Brian Plawer Campground when booking. Indiana state parks use a separate portal. Reservations for Turkey Run Campground can be made through the Indiana State Parks reservation system at indianastateparks.reserveamerica.com, and campground reservations can be made up to six months in advance. Private options like Off the Trail Vacation Rentals & Campground and Charlarose Lake and Campground book directly through their own sites and typically require less lead time outside holiday weekends.
