Campgrounds near Bradley, Illinois
Bradley sits in Kankakee County in northeastern Illinois, roughly an hour south of Chicago and adjacent to the Kankakee River. The area works well as an RV base because interstate access is straightforward, private RV parks handle full hookups, and a large state park sits a short drive west of town. Kankakee River State Park is in northeastern Illinois in the town of Bourbonnais and encompasses 4,000 acres along both sides of an 11-mile stretch of the Kankakee River.
The closest option to Bradley is Kankakee South KOA Holiday, a private full-service park a short drive south of the city. Potowatomi - Kankakee River State Park is the main public option, with additional private campgrounds farther afield including Enchanted Shores, Chicagoland Speedway/Lakeside Campgrounds, and Martin Campground.
Potawatomi's four loops offer a total of 110 Class A campsites, and the adjacent Chippewa loops add roughly 100 more, so the state park alone accounts for over 200 sites. Together the area covers the range from big-rig hookups to wooded state-park loops.
Things to do near Bradley
The Kankakee River is the main draw. The park is a favorite spot for fishing, hiking, canoeing, bicycling, camping, and more within a stunningly peaceful setting. Trails follow both sides of the river, and paved and crushed-gravel paths link the campground loops to riverside overlooks.
Families staying at Kankakee South KOA Holiday can use on-site amenities without leaving the property. The campground's amenities include a swimming pool, game room, playground, volleyball, and basketball.
The towns of Kankakee, Frankfort, and Bradley are within a short distance to fill out your trip with dining, shopping, and activities. That makes restocking and meals out an easy add-on between outings.

The camping season in this part of Illinois runs roughly spring through fall. Inside Kankakee River State Park, the Equestrian Campground off Illinois Route 113 is open only from April 1 through October 31, and the main Potowatomi loops follow a similar warm-season pattern. Private parks such as Kankakee South KOA Holiday also operate on a seasonal calendar centered on the same window.
Summer weekends and holidays are the busiest window. For weekend camping, it's advisable to book well in advance as the campground can fill up quickly, especially during peak season. Fall brings cooler nights and a strong themed-weekend draw at private parks, with Halloween weekends particularly popular in the area.
Winter is quiet. State-park facilities scale back, and private RV parks in the area typically close between late fall and early spring, so cold-weather RVers should confirm operating dates before arrival.

How to book near Bradley
Public and private sites use different systems. Reservations for Potawatomi Campground can be made through the Illinois Department of Natural Resources reservation system. Reservations are taken for Kankakee River Class A, BE, and C campgrounds.
Walk-ups are limited. The campground typically doesn't accept same-day or day-before reservations, as walk-in camping is the option for last-minute stays, subject to availability.
Kankakee South KOA Holiday, Enchanted Shores, Chicagoland Speedway/Lakeside Campgrounds, and Martin Campground are private and book directly through their own websites or phone lines. For summer weekends and any Halloween-themed weekend, reserve as far ahead as possible.
What to expect at Bradley campgrounds
Sites vary widely by campground. At Kankakee South KOA Holiday, rigs up to 75 feet can power up with 50-amp service underneath the shady oaks, and full hookups are standard. Inside the state park, hookups are more limited: Potawatomi Campground, classified as Class A (showers and electricity), has 110 sites in a wooded setting. The Potawatomi campground offers shower facilities, a dump station, and flush toilets, and all sites have electricity hookups. The campsites are for RVs 35 feet long or smaller.
Rules at the state park are strict. The campgrounds close at 10 p.m., and all campgrounds observe quiet hours from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. No vehicular traffic is allowed during this time. Expect wooded, riverside settings at the state park and a more traditional resort feel at the private parks.

You have excellent options within a 30-minute drive of Bradley. Chippewa Campground in the same park offers more rustic Class BE and Class C sites with a boat ramp nearby. Kankakee South KOA Holiday in Chebanse has full hookups, a pool, and a game room. Smaller private parks add quieter, country settings. Reserve Kankakee River State Park sites through Reserve America's ExploreMoreIL platform early, as weekends fill fast in summer.
dnr.illinois.gov/parks/park.kankakeeriver.htmlWhen is the best time of year for RV camping in Bradley, IL?
Late May through early October is prime time for RV camping in Bradley, with summer highs in the upper 70s to mid 80s and overnight lows in the 60s, ideal for evenings by the campfire. June brings lush green river trails, July and August deliver classic Midwest warmth, and September shoulder season is the local insider pick, fewer mosquitoes, lower rates, and stunning fall color along the Kankakee River by mid-October. Spring days can swing from 30 to 60 degrees, so pack layers if you go early. Winter rentals are possible for hardy campers, but most state park amenities scale back from November through April.
dnr.illinois.gov/parks/park.kankakeeriver.htmlI have never rented an RV before. Will I be okay driving around Bradley, IL?
Bradley is one of the friendlier places in Illinois to be a first-time RV renter. The roads around town and out to Kankakee River State Park are wide, mostly flat, and lightly trafficked compared to Chicago. Every RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup, covering driving, leveling, hookups, propane, slide-outs, and dumping, so you are never left guessing. You can also message your host any time during the trip. Pro tip: if you would rather not drive at all, book a host who offers delivery and setup right to Potawatomi Campground. You will arrive to a ready-made basecamp and just have to relax.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat if I get a flat tire or break down during my Bradley, IL RV trip?
You are not on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so help is one phone call away whether you are on I-57, parked near Bourbonnais, or somewhere along Route 102. The service covers common roadside issues like tire changes, jump-starts, lockouts, and towing to a qualified shop. Your host is also a great first call for quick questions about quirks of their specific RV. Save both numbers in your phone before pickup and snap a photo of the RV's roadside assistance card so you have everything you need in one tap.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Bradley RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, interstate travel is welcome on most RVezy rentals from Bradley, and Indiana is literally next door, making destinations like Indiana Dunes National Park (about 90 miles away) or Lake Michigan's eastern shore easy weekend trips. Wisconsin Dells, Michigan, Missouri, and Kentucky are all within a comfortable multi-day loop. Canada travel is allowed on many rentals but depends on the host's specific insurance, so message them before booking if Toronto or Niagara Falls is on your list. One firm rule: travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because insurance coverage does not extend across that border.
enjoyillinois.com/plan-your-trip/places-to-stay/camping-and-rv-parks-in-illinois/How much should I budget for fuel on a Bradley, IL RV trip?
Fuel is usually the biggest variable cost, so plan ahead and you will avoid surprises. Class C motorhomes around Bradley average 8 to 12 miles per gallon, Class B campervans push 16 to 20, and a truck pulling a travel trailer typically lands in the 10 to 14 range. Illinois gas prices tend to run slightly above the national average, with cheaper diesel and gas often found just over the Indiana line on I-65 if your route goes that way. Pro tip: top off in Bourbonnais or Manteno before heading out to Kankakee River State Park, since fuel options thin out once you turn onto Route 102.
gasprices.aaa.com/state-gas-price-averages/How far in advance should I book a campground near Bradley, IL?
For Kankakee River State Park's Potawatomi Campground, book as early as you can. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources opens reservations through the ExploreMoreIL system up to six months out, and prime summer weekends sell out fast. Aim for at least 8 to 12 weeks ahead for Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day weekends. Private parks like Kankakee South KOA also book up quickly. Pro tip: midweek arrivals from Sunday through Wednesday are far easier to grab, often more affordable, and the riverside campsites feel almost private compared to peak Saturday nights.
dnr.illinois.gov/parks/park.kankakeeriver.htmlWhat are local driving conditions like around Bradley, IL?
Driving an RV around Bradley is refreshingly easy. The terrain is flat, the main roads (Route 50, Route 102, and I-57) are well maintained, and traffic stays manageable outside of Chicago commuter peaks. Speed limits on Illinois interstates top out at 70 miles per hour, with most other highways posted at 55. Watch for two local quirks: occasional summer thunderstorms can bring strong crosswinds across the open farmland, and winter brings snow and ice from late November through March. If you are heading north into Chicago, avoid weekdays from 6 to 9 a.m. and 3 to 7 p.m., or take the Metra train in and leave the RV at camp.
gettingaroundillinois.com/What amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Bradley, IL?
Campgrounds near Bradley offer a wide range of amenities to match your style. Potawatomi Campground at Kankakee River State Park has electric hookups at every site, a sanitary dump station, showers, flush toilets, and water pumps, with sites that accommodate larger RVs. Kankakee South KOA delivers full hookups (water, electric, sewer), Wi-Fi, a pool, and a playground. Private parks in the area add fishing lakes and laundry facilities. Fill your fresh water tank at the campground spigot on arrival, and use the dump station on the way out. dnr.illinois.gov/parks/park.kankakeeriver.htmlWhat is included inside a typical RV rental in Bradley, IL?
Most Bradley RV rentals come ready to live in. Expect a queen or king bed plus convertible dinettes or bunks, so a Class C motorhome easily sleeps 4 to 6, a kitchen with a fridge, stove, microwave, and sink, a bathroom with a shower and toilet, air conditioning, and a furnace for chilly Illinois nights. Many listings include a TV, Bluetooth speakers, and an onboard generator for off-grid power. Seatbelts are installed at all designated travel seats. Each listing on RVezy shows exactly what is included, and add-ons like camping chairs, linens, kitchen kits, and outdoor mats are often available. Check the photos and amenities checklist before booking so there are no surprises.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Bradley%2C%20IllinoisWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about for a Bradley, IL RV rental?
RVezy hosts in Bradley typically offer helpful add-ons that make your trip smoother: linen and towel packages, kitchen kits, outdoor furniture, bike racks, generators, and Starlink Wi-Fi on some newer rigs. Pickup is usually at the host's home or a nearby meet-up spot in Bradley or neighboring Bourbonnais and Kankakee, and many hosts deliver directly to your campground for a per-mile fee. Mileage policies vary by listing, with some offering unlimited mileage and others including a set number of miles per night plus a small per-mile charge after. Always read the listing details and message the host with your route so they can recommend the right package.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Bradley%2C%20IllinoisHow do payment and the security deposit work for an RV rental in Bradley, IL?
Payment is straightforward and fully handled inside the RVezy platform, no cash, no checks, no awkward conversations with the host. You pay securely with a credit card at booking, and the platform holds funds until your trip starts. A refundable security deposit is placed on your card before pickup, separate from your booking payment, to cover potential incidentals like minor damage, missing items, or extra cleaning, and it is released after your trip once the RV is returned in good condition. Pro tip: take date-stamped photos and a quick video of the RV at pickup and again at dropoff. It is a five-minute habit that keeps the deposit return process smooth.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I park overnight at a rest area on my way to or from Bradley?
Illinois rest areas are great for a quick break but not a true overnight stop, the state has a 3-hour parking limit at its interstate rest areas, and camping behavior like extending slide-outs or setting up chairs is not allowed. If you need a real night's sleep, point your campervan rental in Bradley toward a proper campground like Potawatomi at Kankakee River State Park or Kankakee South KOA, both within 20 minutes of town. Many Cracker Barrel and Walmart locations along I-57 also welcome short overnight stays with permission. Plan your driving day so you arrive at a real campsite before dark and enjoy a proper Illinois sunset over the Kankakee River.
