Campgrounds and RV parks near Burnham, IL

Burnham sits at the far southeast corner of Cook County, tucked against the Indiana state line and roughly a half-hour drive from downtown Chicago. The village itself has no RV parks, so travelers looking for hookups typically head just across the state line into northwest Indiana or south into the Kankakee River corridor. That geography puts Burnham within easy reach of Lake Michigan beaches, the Indiana Dunes, and a cluster of private lakeside campgrounds. Emerald Trails Campground is one of the closer private options, and the Cedar Lake area offers two faith-based parks: Cedar Lake Ministries RV Park and Cedar Lake Bible Retreat and RV Park, both near the shores of Cedar Lake in Lake County, Indiana. Pingala RV Resort and Lakeshore Camp Resort round out the nearby private-park picks for travelers who want full hookups. For a more traditional park experience, Dunewood Campground inside Indiana Dunes National Park is under an hour east and provides a wooded, no-hookup base near Lake Michigan. Adjacent Indiana Dunes State Park offers electric sites and direct beach access.

Reservation systems vary by park. Dunewood Campground in Indiana Dunes National Park uses Recreation.gov on a rolling six-month window, with sites for the following April released starting November 15. Summer weekends there can be gone within days of release, so setting a calendar reminder for the six-month mark is worthwhile. Indiana Dunes State Park campsites are booked through the Indiana DNR reservation portal on ReserveAmerica and can be reserved up to six months out. Private parks in the area, including Cedar Lake Ministries RV Park, take reservations directly through their own websites or through third-party platforms such as Good Sam, Hipcamp, and RoverPass. Holiday weekends between Memorial Day and Labor Day fill first. Midweek arrivals almost always have better availability than Friday and Saturday nights.
