Campgrounds and RV parks near Catlin, IL

Catlin sits in Vermilion County in east-central Illinois, just off Interstate 74 and a short drive from Danville. The area's camping is anchored by Kickapoo State Recreation Area, a former surface-mine site of 2,842 acres that now serves as an outdoor recreation area easily accessible via I-74. Redear Campground sits inside Kickapoo along Long Lake and offers basic, shaded, tent-oriented sites with outhouses. Just to the north, Middle Fork State Fish and Wildlife Area lies six miles north of the I-74 exit at Oakwood and covers 2,700 acres of grass, forest, and cropland. Its equestrian campground gives horse owners direct access to 35 miles of marked equestrian, cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling trails. RV travelers who want hookups can look to Horseshoe Lakes RV Campground and Off the Trail Vacation Rentals & Campground in the surrounding rural area. Farther west, Gray Squirrel at Walnut Point State Park near Oakland provides electric sites on a small lake in Douglas County, roughly an hour from Catlin.

Illinois state park sites are booked through the state's online reservation system. Kickapoo features two major campgrounds for tent or trailer camping, with online reservations available at ExploreMoreIL, and the same platform covers Walnut Point, where all Class A and Class C campsites are reservable. At Kickapoo, reservations can be made at least three days in advance through the ExploreMoreIL site, and non-reserved sites are available upon arrival with a two-night maximum stay on those walk-ups. Middle Fork's equestrian, Class C, and Class D primitive sites operate largely first-come, first-served. Private options such as Horseshoe Lakes RV Campground and Off the Trail Vacation Rentals & Campground are booked directly with the operator. Book electric sites early for summer holiday weekends, when state park loops fill quickly.
