Camping near Clarendon Hills, Illinois
Clarendon Hills is a residential village in DuPage County, about 20 miles southwest of downtown Chicago along the BNSF Metra line. The village itself has no RV park, so travelers base themselves at private resorts and forest preserve campgrounds within a 20 to 60 minute drive, mainly along the I-55, I-294, I-80, and I-355 corridors.
Closest to the metro area, Pingala RV Resort offers sites for RVers who want to stage near the city. Farther southwest along I-80 near Joliet, Martin Campground, Chicagoland Speedway/Lakeside Campgrounds, and Hollywood Casino Hotel and RV Resort provide larger inventories and easier big-rig access. Leisure Lake Membership Resort rounds out the list for travelers headed farther south and west.
Public camping in the immediate area is limited but useful for weekend trips. The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County runs a family campground at Blackwell Forest Preserve in Warrenville with electric sites, restrooms, showers, and a dump station for RVs.
Things to do near Clarendon Hills
Clarendon Hills sits inside the Chicago metro, so most trips combine campground downtime with day trips into the city. Metra commuter trains run from the village station straight to downtown Chicago, which lets families leave the RV parked and ride in for museums, Navy Pier, Millennium Park, and Cubs or White Sox games.
Closer in, the Forest Preserves of DuPage and Cook counties offer hiking, mountain biking, fishing, and paddling. Blackwell Forest Preserve in Warrenville has miles of trails through oak-hickory woods and wetlands, plus boating access on Silver Lake.
For race weekends, Chicagoland Speedway/Lakeside Campgrounds provides on-site camping tied to event tickets, with NASCAR Cup Series racing returning to the Joliet track. Hollywood Casino Hotel and RV Resort adds gaming, dining, and entertainment within walking distance of the sites.

The camping season in the Chicago suburbs runs roughly from May through October. Blackwell Family Campground in DuPage County operates on weekends from spring through early fall, with added nights around Memorial Day, July 4, and Labor Day. Illinois state parks in the region reserve through the ExploreMoreIL system, with reservations available up to 180 days in advance and first-come, first-served sites at many parks.
Summer brings warm, humid weather, longer days, and peak demand. Race weekends at Chicagoland Speedway, holiday weekends, and major Chicago convention dates fill private parks several months out. September and October usually deliver the most stable weather of the year, with cool nights and turning hardwoods along the Fox and DuPage rivers.
Winter camping is limited. Many private parks close or reduce services from November through March, and forest preserve campgrounds shut for the season. RV travelers in this window should confirm water availability and heated bathhouse access before booking.

How to book campgrounds near Clarendon Hills
Private parks in the area, including Pingala RV Resort, Martin Campground, Chicagoland Speedway/Lakeside Campgrounds, Hollywood Casino Hotel and RV Resort, and Leisure Lake Membership Resort, book directly through each property's website or phone line. Chicagoland Speedway camping is tied to event weekends and should be booked as soon as tickets and camping packages go on sale.
Illinois state park campsites are reserved through the ExploreMoreIL system operated by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. Reservations can be made up to 180 days in advance and must be booked at least three days before arrival, with a 14-night maximum stay within a 30-day period. Memorial Day, qualifying July 4th, and Labor Day weekends require a two-night minimum.
Blackwell Family Campground permits are sold online through the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County up to a year in advance, with reservations required at least three full business days ahead.
What to expect
Sites range from full-hookup private RV parks to more rustic forest preserve campgrounds. Most private parks in the area offer 30 and 50 amp electric, potable water, dump stations, fire rings, and bathhouses. Blackwell in DuPage County has electricity at every site plus a shared water-fill station and dump station for RVs, but no individual water or sewer hookups.
Expect suburban traffic and highway noise at parks located near I-55, I-80, I-294, and I-355. Rail lines run through many of the older suburbs, including Clarendon Hills, so trains are part of the soundscape.
Alcohol policies vary. DuPage forest preserve campgrounds prohibit alcohol entirely, and gates lock one hour after sunset. Confirm quiet hours, gate schedules, and pet rules with each park before arrival.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Clarendon+Hills%2C+ILWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Clarendon Hills?
Good news: a standard Illinois Class D driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Clarendon Hills, even for a 30-foot Class C motorhome or a fifth wheel. Illinois does not require a commercial driver's license (CDL) or any special endorsement for personal-use recreational vehicles. You'll need to be 25 or older to book on RVezy, and we'll quickly verify your ID through the platform during checkout. Visiting from outside the U.S.? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) alongside your home-country license. Most guests are surprised how fast the approval moves, often the same day you book.
ilsos.gov/departments/drivers/drivers_license/home.htmlIs RVezy's protection package included when I rent an RV in Clarendon Hills, IL?
Yes, every RV rental in Clarendon Hills booked through RVezy automatically includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit I-55 or I-294 with real peace of mind. The protection plan covers physical damage to the RV during your trip, which removes the biggest worry most first-time renters have. Pro tip: families heading to Starved Rock often choose a higher tier for the extra confidence on unfamiliar roads.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Clarendon Hills RV rental?
Booking is low-risk: RVezy sets the cancellation policy (not the host), and it isn't displayed on individual listings. Every reservation includes a grace period right after booking so you can lock in your dates with confidence. After that window, refund eligibility depends on how far out your trip is and the specific policy tier applied to your booking. If a host cancels, RVezy refunds you or provides travel credits. The easiest move is to book early, watch the Chicago-area forecast, and contact RVezy support as soon as plans change. Pro tip: securing your RV rental in Clarendon Hills early gives you the most flexibility on dates.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Clarendon Hills RV trip?
Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental Clarendon Hills options are easy to find on RVezy. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on the search page and you'll see motorhomes and trailers whose owners welcome dogs (and sometimes cats). Many local hosts even leave bowls, leashes, or a backyard-style pet step inside. Once you're on the road, your pup will love the off-leash area at Waterfall Glen Forest Preserve just minutes south in Darien, the trails at Fullersburg Woods in Oak Brook, and the dog-friendly campsites at Blackwell Forest Preserve in Warrenville. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm pet fees (usually $25 to $75 per stay) and any size limits.
dupageforest.org/places-to-go/forest-preserves/waterfall-glenCan the RV be delivered to me in Clarendon Hills?
Yes, RV delivery Clarendon Hills is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-time renters who'd rather skip driving a 28-foot motorhome out of a suburban driveway. Many local hosts will deliver and set up your RV directly at a campground like Blackwell Forest Preserve, Hickory Hollow, or even your own driveway in the 60514 zip code. They'll level the RV, hook up water and power, and walk you through everything from the awning to the propane stove. Just use the Delivery filter when you search. Pro tip: delivery fees are typically $2 to $4 per mile, so nearby DuPage County campgrounds are the most budget-friendly drop spots.
dupageforest.org/How far can I drive on an RV rental from Clarendon Hills?
You've got serious range from Clarendon Hills, which sits right off I-294 and I-55, two of the Midwest's best RV launchpads. Hosts on RVezy set their own mileage policies: some include 100 to 150 free miles per night, others offer RV rental with unlimited mileage (great for longer Midwest loops). Popular drives include Starved Rock State Park (about 90 miles southwest), Lake Geneva, WI (75 miles north), Indiana Dunes National Park (75 miles east), Wisconsin Dells (185 miles), and Door County, WI (260 miles). Pro tip: if you're planning a big RV road trip from Clarendon Hills, filter for unlimited miles up front to keep your budget predictable.

For a quick getaway, Chicago Northwest KOA Holiday in Union (50 miles northwest) is family-friendly with a pool. And Starved Rock State Park's campground in Oglesby is the crown jewel about 90 miles away. Pro tip: DuPage Forest Preserve sites book on a rolling basis, so reserve at least 4 to 6 weeks ahead for summer weekends.
dnr.illinois.gov/parks/park.starvedrock.htmlWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip from Clarendon Hills?
Late April through mid-October is the sweet spot for a Clarendon Hills RV trip, with the absolute best weather typically falling between mid-May and late September. Summer highs hover around 80 to 85°F, while spring and fall sit in the comfortable 55 to 70°F range, perfect for campfires. October is a hidden gem: fall colors along the Illinois & Michigan Canal and at Starved Rock are spectacular, and campgrounds are quieter. Winter RVing is possible but cold (often below 20°F), so look for hosts who list four-season RVs with heated tanks. Pro tip: book before March for Memorial Day and July 4th weekends, which sell out fastest across Chicagoland.
weather.gov/lot/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay renting an RV in Clarendon Hills?
Yes, and most first-time renters in Clarendon Hills are driving confidently within the first hour. Every RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup, covering driving, leveling, hookups, the bathroom, and the propane system. If you're nervous about navigating I-294 or the Hinsdale Oasis traffic, start with a smaller travel trailer or Class B campervan, or book delivery so the host parks it for you at the campground. Pro tip: first time renting an RV is much easier if you message the host a day before pickup with your questions, so the walkthrough focuses on what matters most to you.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat if something goes wrong with the RV during my Clarendon Hills trip?
You're never on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, covering flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and towing, whether you're parked at Blackwell Forest Preserve or rolling down I-80 toward Starved Rock. You'll also have your host's direct contact info for quick questions like how to reset the generator, and RVezy's support team is reachable before, during, and after your trip. Pro tip: snap a quick photo of the RV's VIN, plate, and the roadside assistance number at pickup so everything is one tap away if you need it on the road.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionCan I take my Clarendon Hills RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, interstate travel is welcome on virtually every RVezy rental, and Clarendon Hills is perfectly positioned for it. Wisconsin, Indiana, Michigan, Iowa, and Missouri are all within a day's drive, and the protection plan travels with you across U.S. state lines. Heading to Canada? That's allowed on many listings, but message the host first to confirm and make sure cross-border coverage is set up. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals. Pro tip: popular cross-border loops from Clarendon Hills include Lake Geneva, Mackinac, and the Upper Peninsula.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat's the fuel budget like for a motorhome rental Clarendon Hills trip?
Fuel is the biggest variable, but it's easy to estimate. Class C motorhomes average 8 to 12 MPG, Class A coaches 6 to 10 MPG, campervans 15 to 20 MPG, and a tow vehicle pulling a travel trailer typically gets 10 to 14 MPG. Gas in the Chicagoland area runs higher than the national average (often $3.60 to $4.20 per gallon in DuPage County), so fill up in Indiana or downstate Illinois if your route allows, where prices drop noticeably. Pro tip: a weekend campervan rental Clarendon Hills trip to Starved Rock and back usually costs $60 to $90 in fuel, which is part of why smaller rigs are so popular here.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground for my Illinois RV trip?
Earlier is better, especially for Illinois state parks. Starved Rock, Illinois Beach, and Kankakee River State Park take reservations through the ExploreMore Illinois system up to 6 months in advance, and prime summer weekends fill within days. DuPage County Forest Preserve campgrounds like Blackwell open bookings on a rolling basis and tend to sell out 4 to 8 weeks ahead. Private parks like Hickory Hollow and KOA Union are more flexible but still smart to grab 2 to 4 weeks out. Pro tip: book your RV on RVezy first, then your campsite, since RV availability around Clarendon Hills tightens fast for July and August.
exploremoreil.usedirect.com/What are driving conditions like around Clarendon Hills for an RV?
Clarendon Hills is one of the easier Chicago suburbs to launch an RV from: flat terrain, wide suburban streets, and quick access to I-294, I-55, and I-88. The main thing to plan around is rush-hour traffic on the Tri-State Tollway (I-294), which is heaviest 7 to 9 a.m. and 3 to 6 p.m. weekdays. Avoid driving tall rigs through downtown Chicago, where Lower Wacker and parts of Lake Shore Drive have low clearances. Winter brings snow and ice from December through February. Pro tip: leave Clarendon Hills before 6 a.m. or after 7 p.m. on Fridays in summer, and your drive to Wisconsin or Starved Rock will be smooth sailing.
illinoistollway.com/Where can I dump tanks and refill water near Clarendon Hills?
You've got several easy options within 30 minutes of Clarendon Hills. Blackwell Forest Preserve in Warrenville has a dump station and potable water fill for registered campers and day users (small fee). Leisure Lake Resort in Andover and Hickory Hollow Campground in Rockdale offer dump access too. Most full-hookup campgrounds you'll stay at (KOA Union, private RV parks) include dumping with your site. Inside the RV, expect a fresh water tank of 30 to 60 gallons, gray and black tanks of 25 to 50 gallons, and 30-amp shore power at standard sites. Pro tip: dump on your way home at Blackwell so you return the RV clean and avoid host dump fees.
dupageforest.org/places-to-go/forest-preserves/blackwellWhat's actually inside the RVs I'll find in Clarendon Hills?
More than you'd guess. Most RVs listed near Clarendon Hills come fully equipped: a queen or king bed, convertible dinette or bunks, full kitchen with fridge/freezer, microwave, propane stove, indoor bathroom with shower, roof-mounted air conditioning, furnace, and seatbelted seating for travel. Many include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor speakers, and an awning. Some hosts add Wi-Fi hotspots, generators (handy for boondocking near Starved Rock), solar panels, and outdoor kitchens. Linens, kitchenware, and camp chairs are commonly included, just check the listing's amenities tab. Pro tip: for a family RV trip Clarendon Hills families love, look for rigs that sleep one or two more than your headcount, you'll appreciate the extra space on rainy nights.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Clarendon+Hills%2C+ILWhat add-ons and pickup options should I expect when I rent an RV in Clarendon Hills?
Hosts in the Clarendon Hills, Hinsdale, and Westmont area offer a wide range of add-ons to customize your trip: bedding and towel kits, kitchen packages, generators, bike racks, kayak/SUP racks, camp chairs, outdoor grills, Wi-Fi hotspots, and even pre-stocked pantries. Pickup is usually at the host's home (often near I-294 or Ogden Avenue), but RV delivery to local campgrounds or your driveway is widely available. Mileage policies vary: many hosts include 100 to 150 miles per night with extras at $0.30 to $0.50 per mile, while some offer unlimited mileage packages. Pro tip: bundle delivery plus a bedding kit on your first trip and you'll be camp-ready in minutes.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Clarendon+Hills%2C+ILHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure: you pay through RVezy at the time of booking using a credit or debit card, and your funds are held until your trip begins, no cash or e-transfers to the host. Most hosts also require a refundable security deposit (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV), which is pre-authorized on your card a few days before pickup and released after the host confirms the RV came back in good shape. To avoid deposit issues, do a quick walkaround video at pickup and dropoff, return the RV with the agreed fuel and propane levels, and dump the tanks if your agreement requires it. Pro tip: clean RVs come back deposit-free almost every time.
