Campgrounds and RV parks near Fairmont, IL

Fairmont is an unincorporated community in Will County, Illinois, sitting between Lockport and Joliet in the southwest Chicago metro. It is a small census-designated place, and the nearest larger city is Joliet, just a few miles away. Chicago sits roughly 35 miles to the northeast, which puts Fairmont within reasonable driving range of both urban attractions and the I&M Canal corridor to the south and west. RV options close to Fairmont are mostly private parks catering to travelers off I-80 and I-55. Martin Campground is one of the nearest RV parks, followed by Chicagoland Speedway/Lakeside Campgrounds and Hollywood Casino Hotel and RV Resort, both in the Joliet area. Leisure Lake Membership Resort and Enchanted Shores sit farther southwest toward Channahon and the confluence of the Des Plaines, DuPage, and Kankakee rivers. Public camping in the immediate area is limited. Channahon State Park serves as a trailhead for the I&M Canal State Trail and offers primitive tent sites but no RV hookups, so most RV travelers will stay at one of the private parks and use the state and county trails for day trips.

Private parks near Fairmont handle their own bookings. Chicagoland Speedway/Lakeside Campgrounds is tied to race events and books directly through the Speedway; Hollywood Casino Hotel and RV Resort takes reservations through the casino property. Martin Campground and Enchanted Shores are smaller private operations, so call ahead to confirm availability. Leisure Lake Membership Resort is a membership-based property. Online reservations for Illinois Department of Natural Resources camping are made through the ExploreMoreIL website, and reservations are no longer taken through the mail or over the phone. A reservation cannot be made more than 180 days in advance of the arrival date, and campsites can be reserved for a maximum of 14 nights within a 30-day period, with reservations required at least three days before the campsite is needed. Memorial Day, qualifying Fourth of July, and Labor Day weekends require a two-night minimum stay.
