Campgrounds and RV parks near Gifford, IL

Gifford is a small village in Champaign County in east-central Illinois, roughly fifteen miles northeast of Champaign-Urbana. The surrounding landscape is largely flat farmland, so most RV camping options sit either west toward the Champaign metro or east toward the Vermilion River valley near Danville. The closest full-service RV park is D and W Lake Camping and RV Park in Champaign, a family-owned property with full hookups on a small stocked lake. Tin Cup RV Park in Mahomet, about twenty minutes west, is another private option with pull-throughs suited to larger rigs. South Park Municipal Campground in Gibson City offers nine sites with 30 amp electric and water, a simple small-town alternative to the north. For state-managed camping, drivers head east on Interstate 74. Redear Campground sits within Kickapoo State Recreation Area, a 2,842-acre park in Vermilion County with 22 lakes and access to the Middle Fork River, in a former surface-mine landscape reclaimed by forest and deep clear-water ponds. The Middle Fork State Fish and Wildlife Area Equestrian sites give horse travelers direct access to a marked trail system along the Middle Fork of the Vermilion, Illinois's only National Scenic River.

Online reservations for all Illinois Department of Natural Resources-hosted camping, cabins, group camps, and shelters are made through the ExploreMoreIL website. A reservation cannot be made more than 180 days in advance of the guest arrival date, and campsites can be reserved for a maximum of 14 nights within a 30-day period, with reservations made at least three days before the campsite is needed. Equestrian sites at the Middle Fork State Fish and Wildlife Area operate on a first-come, first-served basis, so plan to arrive earlier in the day on summer weekends and holiday periods. Private parks take direct reservations. D and W Lake Camping and RV Park and Tin Cup RV Park both book through their own websites or by phone. South Park Municipal Campground in Gibson City is paid through Camp Spot, and a shower key must be picked up from the police department.
