Campgrounds and RV parks near Godley, IL

Godley is a small village in Grundy County in northeastern Illinois, roughly an hour southwest of Chicago and within driving distance of the Kankakee and Des Plaines river corridors. The area sits in a humid continental climate zone with warm, wet summers and cold, snowy winters typical of the Midwest. Most RV travelers use Godley as a base to reach state park camping, riverside recreation, and Joliet-area attractions. Campground options in the immediate area range from private membership resorts to state park sites. Leisure Lake Membership Resort and Martin Campground offer private sites, while Potawatomi Campground at Kankakee River State Park is a Class A campground with 110 sites in a wooded setting, offering showers and electricity. Hollywood Casino Hotel and RV Resort in nearby Joliet caters to adult travelers with casino access, and Chicagoland Speedway/Lakeside Campgrounds serves race-weekend crowds. The surrounding region is flat to gently rolling farmland cut by rivers, canals, and remnant prairie preserves, which shapes most of the outdoor activity within a short drive of Godley.

State park sites at Kankakee River State Park are reserved through the Illinois Department of Natural Resources' ExploreMoreIL online reservation platform. A reservation cannot be made more than 180 days in advance of the arrival date, and reservations must be made three days before the campsite is needed. Campers must be at least 18 years old to rent a campsite and must be able to establish camp at the time the permit is issued. Walk-in camping is available on a first-come basis subject to availability. Private campgrounds including Leisure Lake Membership Resort, Hollywood Casino Hotel and RV Resort, Chicagoland Speedway/Lakeside Campgrounds, and Martin Campground are booked directly with each property. For race weekends at Chicagoland Speedway and summer holiday weekends, book several weeks to months ahead.
