Campgrounds and RV parks near Greenfield, IL

Greenfield sits in Greene County in west-central Illinois, roughly halfway between the Illinois River bluffs and the college town of Carlinville. RV renters use it as a base for two of the region's larger state parks and a cluster of family-run private campgrounds within a short drive. The closest public option is Beaver Dam State Park, about 7 miles southwest of Carlinville, which centers on a small stocked lake in an oak and hickory woodland. To the south, Pere Marquette State Park overlooks the Illinois River near Grafton, and its lodge was built in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps. Private options in the area include Buena Vista Farms Campground and Crazy Horse Campground, both aimed at families with kids. Most sites in the area offer electric hookups only; full hookups are more common at the private parks. Water is typically available centrally rather than at each pad, sanitary dump stations are provided, and shower buildings with flush toilets serve the trailer loops.

Illinois state park campsites, including those at Beaver Dam State Park and Pere Marquette State Park, are booked through the ExploreMoreIL reservation system. Rent-A-Cabin units and most reservable pads are listed there; the remaining sites at each park stay first-come, first-served, so arriving midweek improves the odds during summer. Reservations must be made at least three days before the arrival date, and can be made up to 180 days (about six months) in advance. Private parks handle their own bookings. Crazy Horse Campground takes reservations online or by phone at (217) 886-2089, and Buena Vista Farms Campground books directly through its office. For summer weekends and holidays, book several weeks out.
