Greenview is a small village in Menard County in central Illinois, roughly halfway between Springfield and Peoria. The surrounding landscape is farmland cut by the Sangamon River, with the Illinois River valley and Sand Ridge State Forest a short drive to the north. RV travelers use the area as a quiet base for Lincoln heritage sites, river recreation, and hiking in the state's largest state forest. Most campgrounds within about an hour of Greenview fall into two categories. Private parks such as Evening Star Camping Resort, Camp A While, and Springfield KOA Journey offer full or partial hookups, planned activities, and pull-through sites suited to larger rigs. Public land at Sand Ridge State Forest offers rustic, primitive camping under pine and oak canopy at Pine Camp, with Oak Camp reserved for organized group use. Roads through the region are flat and straightforward. Interstates 55 and 72 pass just south near Springfield, and state highways connect Greenview to Havana, Petersburg, and the Sand Ridge area without steep grades or tight turns.

Sand Ridge State Forest sites are managed by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources through the ExploreMoreIL reservation platform. Pine Camp contains 27 Class C sites with water, pit-vault toilets, and fire pads, while Oak Camp is set aside for organized group use with council rings and open space. Private parks handle their own bookings. Springfield KOA Journey reserves through the national KOA website and app. Evening Star Camping Resort and Camp A While take reservations directly by phone or through their own websites, with themed weekends and holidays booking earliest. For summer weekends and any date tied to the Illinois State Fair, reserve well in advance and confirm rig length, slide-out clearance, and hookup type before arrival.
