Campgrounds and RV parks near Heyworth, IL

Heyworth sits in central Illinois between Bloomington and Clinton, putting RV travelers within a short drive of several state recreation areas and private parks. The village itself is small and rural, but the surrounding McLean and DeWitt County landscape offers reservoirs, hardwood forest, and prairie remnants that anchor most of the region's camping. The closest public campground is Weldon Springs State Recreational Area, located southeast of Clinton in DeWitt County, a 550-acre park with a spring-fed lake and a developed campground. Clinton Lake State Recreation Area, west of Heyworth, is the region's largest reservoir and offers extensive shoreline camping across roughly 9,300 acres. Timberline Ridge at Moraine View State Recreation Area lies east near LeRoy, while Arrowhead Acres and Kamp Komfort round out the private options. Most campgrounds in this area cater to family RV travel, with electric hookups, dump stations, playgrounds, and access to fishing and boating. Interstate access via I-55, I-74, and I-72 keeps most sites within roughly a half-hour drive of Heyworth.

Illinois state recreation areas use a single centralized reservation platform. Camping, cabin, group camp, and shelter reservations for IDNR sites are handled through the ExploreMoreIL website, which covers Weldon Springs, Clinton Lake, and Moraine View. Reservations can be placed up to six months before arrival and must be made at least three days out, with phone and mail bookings no longer accepted. Holiday weekends require a two-night minimum and fill early, so book as soon as the window opens. When reserving, review site dimensions and hookup type carefully, since some sites are tighter than the listed length suggests, which matters for larger travel trailers and Class A motorhomes. Confirm amperage and pull-through availability before booking. Private campgrounds such as Arrowhead Acres and Kamp Komfort are booked directly with the operator by phone or website. Ask about seasonal openings, as some private parks close through the coldest months.
