How to book campgrounds near Hickory Hills
Private campgrounds in the Chicago metro, including Pingala RV Resort, Martin Campground, Hollywood Casino Hotel and RV Resort, and Enchanted Shores, take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Booking windows vary by property, but summer weekends often fill weeks in advance. Race weekends at Chicagoland Speedway/Lakeside Campgrounds are typically released on a separate schedule tied to the event calendar.
Illinois state park campgrounds within driving range use the Illinois Department of Natural Resources online reservation system for advance bookings. Cook County Forest Preserves does not operate drive-in RV campgrounds, so plan around private parks for hookups. Book holiday weekends and race dates as early as possible, and confirm rig-length limits and hookup type when reserving.
What to expect
Sites near Hickory Hills range from full-hookup resort pads with paved interior roads to more rustic gravel spurs at smaller parks. Cell service is generally strong across the metro. Big-rig access is best at Hollywood Casino Hotel and RV Resort and Chicagoland Speedway/Lakeside Campgrounds, both close to interstate exits.
Traffic on I-55, I-80, and I-294 is heavy during weekday rush hours and on summer Fridays and Sundays. Arriving mid-day or mid-week eases setup. Mosquitoes are active near wooded and lakeside sites from June through August, and severe thunderstorm and tornado watches are routine in late spring and summer.
Quiet hours, generator rules, and pet policies vary by property; check the specific campground's rules before arrival.

help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on a Hickory Hills RV trip?

Illinois gas prices in the Chicago metro tend to run slightly above the national average, often $3.50-$4.20 per gallon for regular. For a 300-mile weekend loop to Starved Rock and back in a Class C, plan on roughly $110-$150 in fuel. eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book campgrounds near Hickory Hills?
Booking early pays off, but you've got more flexibility than you'd think. Cook County Forest Preserve campgrounds like Camp Bullfrog Lake and Camp Sullivan open reservations through the official online portal and fill 2-3 months ahead for summer weekends. Illinois state parks like Starved Rock and Channahon use the ExploreMoreIL reservation system, and prime weekends from Memorial Day through Labor Day often book up months in advance. Private parks tend to have more last-minute openings. camp.exploremoreil.com/What are local driving conditions like around Hickory Hills?
Driving an RV around Hickory Hills is very manageable once you know the patterns. The village sits just off I-294 (Tri-State Tollway) and 95th Street, so most routes funnel onto toll roads (have an I-PASS or be ready for pay-by-plate). Avoid rush-hour windows of 6:30-9:30 a.m. and 3:30-6:30 p.m. on I-294 and I-55. Watch low clearances on older viaducts in nearby Chicago neighborhoods; most RVs are 11-13 feet tall, and a few city underpasses dip below 12 feet. Winter brings snow and salt from December through March. Pro tip: heading to Starved Rock, take I-55 south to I-80 west instead of cutting through downtown Joliet; it's faster and far easier in a motorhome.
illinoistollway.com/What amenities do campgrounds near Hickory Hills offer for RVs?
You'll find a great mix. Camp Bullfrog Lake in Willow Springs offers full hookups (water, electric, sewer) plus showers and a dump station, while Camp Sullivan in Oak Forest provides electric sites with a central dump and potable water fill. Most Cook County preserves are open year-round with seasonal water shutoffs from mid-November to mid-April. State park campgrounds like Channahon and Starved Rock have electric-only sites, so you'll dump on the way out. Free public dump stations are available at several Illinois rest areas along I-80 and I-55. Pro tip: top off fresh water before leaving the campground; potable fill stations inside Cook County preserves are sometimes a short walk from your site.
dnr.illinois.gov/parks.htmlWhat's included inside a typical RV rental in Hickory Hills?
Almost everything you need to roll out the door. A typical motorhome rental Hickory Hills listing comes with a full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink), a bathroom with shower and toilet, sleeping for 4-8 depending on size, a furnace and air conditioning, seatbelted passenger seats, and most hosts include cookware, dishes, linens, and outdoor chairs. Many also offer add-ons like a generator (great for tailgating at Soldier Field or boondocking near the Indiana Dunes), a portable BBQ, bike racks, or a Starlink/Wi-Fi hotspot. Each listing spells out exactly what's included before you book. Pro tip: ask your host about a 'kitchen kit' add-on if you'd rather not pack your own pots and pans; many include it free.
energy.gov/energysaver/recreational-vehiclesWhat add-ons and pickup options are available for Hickory Hills RV rentals?
Tons of flexibility. Hickory Hills hosts commonly offer add-ons like generators, portable BBQs, bike racks, camp chairs, kayaks, Wi-Fi hotspots, and linen or kitchen kits, all visible on the listing page. Pickup is usually at the host's location in Hickory Hills or a nearby suburb like Bridgeview, Burbank, or Palos Hills, with most hosts providing a 30-60 minute walkthrough. Many also offer delivery to your campground or home for a per-mile fee. Mileage policies vary, with daily allowances ranging from around 100 miles to unlimited. Pro tip: bundle delivery, setup, and a generator for one stress-free price; for a family RV trip Hickory Hills travelers often save by parking the RV stationary at a Cook County preserve and using their own car for day trips.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Hickory%20Hills%2C%20IllinoisHow do payment and the security deposit work on RVezy in Hickory Hills?
Payment is simple and secure. When you book an RV rental in Hickory Hills on RVezy, you pay through the platform with a credit or debit card, never directly to the host in cash or by transfer. A refundable security deposit is held separately at the start of your trip and released back to your card after a smooth return. The deposit covers things like minor damage or excessive cleaning, while the included protection plan handles larger incidents. Pro tip: take time-stamped photos and a quick video of the RV inside and out at both pickup and drop-off; it's the single best way to make sure your deposit comes back in full.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhere can I park an RV in Hickory Hills overnight before or after my trip?
You've got real options. Where to park an RV in Hickory Hills overnight depends on local street parking ordinances, which generally restrict oversize vehicles from parking on residential streets overnight, so a private driveway is your best bet (and exactly why so many guests choose the RV delivery Hickory Hills hosts offer). For longer holds before or after a trip, nearby options include Camp Bullfrog Lake in Willow Springs (about 6 miles), Windy City Beach & Campground in Plainfield (about 20 miles), and Fox Bluff RV Resort in Yorkville (about 45 miles). Pro tip: if you're flying into Midway (just 8 miles northeast), ask your host about airport pickup or delivery; many Hickory Hills hosts will meet you there or drop the RV off at your hotel.
