Campgrounds near Homer Glen, Illinois
Homer Glen sits in southwestern Will County, roughly 30 miles southwest of downtown Chicago. RV renters use it as a quiet base for exploring the Chicago metro, the Illinois and Michigan Canal corridor, and the forest preserves that ring the southwest suburbs. The village itself is largely residential, so most camping options lie a short drive away in Lockport, Joliet, and the surrounding preserve districts.
The closest local option is Martin Campground, a small ground north of the village. A short drive south and west opens up larger RV parks, including Chicagoland Speedway/Lakeside Campgrounds near the racetrack in Joliet, Hollywood Casino Hotel and RV Resort, and Enchanted Shores. Leisure Lake Membership Resort rounds out the nearby options for renters travelling on a membership network.
Forest preserve campgrounds run by Cook and Will counties add tent and small-RV options within about 30 minutes, and Illinois state park sites along the I&M Canal corridor are reachable in under an hour by road.
Things to do near Homer Glen
The Old Plank Road Trail and the I&M Canal State Trail both pass close to Homer Glen and give RV travellers long, flat cycling and walking routes without steep grades. Messenger Woods and other Forest Preserve District of Will County sites offer short hikes, picnic shelters, and wildflower areas that work well for a half-day stop with kids.
Joliet, ten to fifteen minutes south, adds Route 66 attractions, the Rialto Square Theatre, and event weekends at Chicagoland Speedway. Families often build a day around Chicago itself: the Museum Campus, Shedd Aquarium, and Navy Pier are reachable by Metra from nearby stations, which saves driving a large rig into the city.
Fishing and swim lakes are available at several private RV parks, including on-site lakes at Enchanted Shores and Leisure Lake Membership Resort.

The main camping season runs from roughly late April through October. Most private RV parks and forest preserve campgrounds in the region open in mid-April and close by late October or early November, and most Illinois state park campsites are reservable from May 1 through October 31, with some parks accepting bookings year-round.
Summer, from mid-June through August, is peak season. Weekends fill quickly at the closer grounds, especially around event weekends at Chicagoland Speedway and around the July 4 and Labor Day holidays. Weekday arrivals see much better availability. Late spring and early fall bring milder temperatures, fewer bugs, and easier last-minute booking, and fall colour along the Des Plaines and DuPage River corridors typically peaks in mid to late October.
Winter camping options are limited. Snow, ice, and sub-freezing overnights are routine from December into March, and most private parks winterize their hookups for the season.

How to book a campsite
Illinois state park campsites are handled through the state's ExploreMoreIL system, which replaced the older ReserveAmerica portal. Bookings can be made up to 180 days in advance and must be made at least three days before arrival. Sites can be held for a maximum of 14 nights within a 30-day period, and Memorial Day, July 4, and Labor Day weekends carry a two-night minimum. Many parks also keep first-come, first-served sites when space allows.
County forest preserve campgrounds in Cook and Will counties use their own district reservation portals, with separate booking windows and permit rules. Private RV parks near Homer Glen, including Martin Campground, Chicagoland Speedway/Lakeside Campgrounds, Hollywood Casino Hotel and RV Resort, and Enchanted Shores, are booked directly with each park. Summer weekends at these grounds routinely fill several weeks out, so lock in dates before finalizing an RV rental.
What to expect on the ground
Expect suburban, not wilderness. Sites near Homer Glen sit close to highways, arterial roads, or the racetrack, and traffic noise is a common comment in camper reviews. The trade-off is easy access to groceries, fuel, propane, dump stations, and RV service.
Full hookups are standard at the larger private parks, while forest preserve grounds typically offer water and electric only, with a central dump station. Site sizes vary: some suburban grounds have tight back-in pads better suited to trailers and Class C rigs, so confirm length and slide clearance when booking a Class A.
Cell coverage is strong across the region, mosquitoes and ticks are active from late May through September, and summer thunderstorms can be intense but usually brief. Fireflies, deer, and the occasional coyote are common sights at wooded preserve sites.

help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Homer Glen RV rental to Wisconsin, Indiana, or across state lines?
Yes, interstate road trips are encouraged and most hosts welcome travel throughout the United States. help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat fuel mileage should I expect, and how should I budget for gas?
Realistic expectations make budgeting easy. Class C motorhomes around Homer Glen average 8 to 12 miles per gallon, Class A rigs land closer to 6 to 9 MPG, and campervans and travel trailers (towed by your truck or SUV) typically hit 12 to 18 MPG. Illinois gas prices in the Chicago metro tend to run higher than the national average due to state and local fuel taxes, so filling up in Will or Grundy County before driving into the city often saves a few cents per gallon. For a weekend trip to Starved Rock (about 190 miles round trip), budget roughly $70 to $110 in fuel. Pro tip: use GasBuddy to spot the cheapest stations along I-80 westbound.

Book your campsites as soon as your RV rental in Homer Glen is confirmed, especially for summer weekends. Illinois state parks like Starved Rock and Channahon take reservations through the Illinois DNR Camp system up to six months ahead, and the best riverside sites at Starved Rock disappear within hours of release. Cook County Forest Preserve campgrounds (Camp Bullfrog Lake, Camp Sullivan) use their own online reservation system and also fill quickly. Private parks like Fox Bluff RV Resort accept bookings up to a year out. Pro tip: for holiday weekends like July 4th or Labor Day, plan to reserve sites in January or February, then build your Homer Glen RV trip itinerary around the dates you secure.
camp.exploremoreil.com/What are the driving conditions like around Homer Glen and the Chicago area?
Driving an RV around Homer Glen is generally easy. The village sits in the southwest suburbs with wide roads (159th Street, Bell Road, I-355) and minimal low clearances. Avoid driving through downtown Chicago in an RV: Lower Wacker Drive, Lake Shore Drive, and many viaducts have height restrictions, and parking is nearly impossible. Stick to I-355, I-80, and I-55 for smooth highway travel out to nature. Winter (December to March) brings snow and ice, so most renters travel April through November. Pro tip: nervous about RV driving? Book a host who delivers, you will skip city traffic entirely and start your trip at the campground.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Homer%20Glen%2C%20ILHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure. When you book your RV rental Illinois trip through RVezy, you pay by credit card directly on the platform, never in cash to the host. A refundable security deposit (typically several hundred to a couple thousand dollars depending on the RV) is pre-authorized on your card before pickup, not actually charged unless there is damage, excess mileage, or a late return. After your trip, assuming everything is returned in good shape, the hold is released back to your card. Pro tip: do a quick walkaround video at pickup and dropoff with the host, it is the best way to ensure your deposit comes back fast and in full.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I park my Homer Glen RV rental overnight at my house or in town?
In most cases, yes. The Village of Homer Glen allows residents to park a personal RV on their own driveway or property, though parking on public streets overnight is restricted. If you are loading up the day before your trip, plan to park the RV in your driveway, not on the street. For where to park an RV in Homer Glen overnight during travel, head to nearby campgrounds like Camp Bullfrog Lake or Fox Bluff RV Resort instead of relying on retail lot boondocking. Pro tip: ask your RVezy host about delivery and pickup the morning of your trip departure, that way you skip overnight residential parking concerns entirely.
