Campgrounds and RV parks near Hoopeston, IL

Hoopeston sits in east-central Illinois near the Indiana border, in Vermilion County. RV travelers using it as a base have two very different options within roughly an hour's drive: rugged public land along the Middle Fork of the Vermilion River to the south, and a full-service commercial park to the northwest near the Kankakee River. The closest public camping is at Middle Fork State Fish and Wildlife Area Equestrian, an Illinois DNR site north of Oakwood on 2,700 acres of grass, forest, and cropland. About five miles south, Redear Campground - Kickapoo State Recreation Area sits inside a 2,842-acre reclaimed mining landscape with 22 deep-water ponds. Kickapoo offers more amenities including two shower buildings, a sanitary dump station, and electric hookups on sites 1-101. Further afield, Off the Trail Vacation Rentals & Campground and Kankakee South KOA Holiday in Chebanse round out the options, while Newton County Fairgrounds across the state line in Indiana serves overflow and event traffic. Together these give travelers a full range from primitive equestrian sites to family-focused RV resorts.

Illinois state sites use a single reservation platform. Redear Campground - Kickapoo State Recreation Area is bookable through ExploreMoreIL, with reservations opening up to 180 days ahead for the May 1 through October 31 window. Outside that window, sites at Kickapoo revert to first-come, first-served, and campers must check in with the on-site host before setting up. Middle Fork State Fish and Wildlife Area Equestrian operates on a first-come, first-served basis and offers Class C, D, and equestrian sites without hookups or showers. Bring water and plan for primitive conditions. Kankakee South KOA Holiday takes reservations directly through the KOA website, is open April 1 to October 31, and offers pet-friendly Paw Pen sites and Patio pull-throughs. For Newton County Fairgrounds and Off the Trail Vacation Rentals & Campground, contact the operators directly, since availability tracks local events and private rental calendars.
