Campgrounds and RV parks near Hudson, IL

Water recreation drives most trips. Evergreen Lake at Comlara Park covers roughly 900 acres and is popular for fishing, sailing, kayaking, and swimming, with more than ten miles of trails for hiking and biking. Lake Bloomington, adjacent to Hudson, adds a second large reservoir for boating and shoreline fishing. At Moraine View State Recreation Area, the 158-acre Dawson Lake supports picnicking, hiking, swimming, fishing, boating, horseback riding, and hunting. The lake is regularly stocked with largemouth bass, bluegill, sunfish, crappie, and walleye, and anglers can rent kayaks, rowboats, or paddle boats from the on-site concession. Off the water, Bloomington-Normal offers dining, Illinois State University events, and Miller Park Zoo. Timberline Campground Goodfield adds on-site attractions for families who prefer to base activities at camp.

The primary camping season in central Illinois runs from spring through late fall. Most Illinois state-park campsites, including those at Moraine View State Recreation Area, may be reserved from May 1 through October 31, though some parks accept reservations year-round. Summer weekends and holidays fill quickly, especially electric and waterfront sites. Spring brings green-up, wildflowers, and unpredictable storms; May typically sees the highest monthly rainfall of the year. Summer is warm and humid with frequent afternoon thunderstorms, and July and August average highs in the mid-80s. Fall delivers the most stable weather, with cooler nights and lower humidity through September and October. Winter camping is limited but possible at select sites. Heavy snow can restrict access, some facilities close seasonally, and private parks such as Timberline Campground Goodfield have reduced availability from November through March. Confirm current status directly with each operator before arriving.

Terrain around Hudson is gently rolling prairie and moraine country with mixed hardwoods near the lakes. The road into Moraine View is well maintained, and mid-sized RVs generally have no issues navigating it, though larger fifth wheels and motorcoaches may find some state-park loops tight. Expect basic hookup profiles at public sites. Moraine View has two campgrounds: Gander Bay offers Class A sites with electric hookups, and Catfish Bay provides non-electric sites. Water spigots are located throughout the campground rather than at every site, and a dump station, flush toilets, and showers are available. Private parks including Kamp Komfort and Timberline Campground Goodfield offer full hookups and additional family amenities. Bring bug spray for summer, layers for shoulder-season nights, and expect mosquitoes near the lakes. Cell coverage is generally reliable given the interstate corridor, and grocery stops in Bloomington-Normal or Le Roy handle resupply.
