Campgrounds near Jerseyville, Illinois
Jerseyville sits in Jersey County in west-central Illinois, roughly 20 miles from the Illinois River bluffs at Grafton and within an hour of the St. Louis metro area. The location gives RV travelers access to Illinois state parks along the Great River Road and full-hookup private parks on the Missouri side of the Mississippi.
The closest large public campground is Pere Marquette State Park, whose Class A campground has 80 sites with electric hookups, a dump station, drinking water, and a shower building. Beaver Dam State Park lies southeast toward Carlinville, and Horseshoe Lake State Park sits south near Granite City in the Metro East, though access to Chouteau Island and the campground is currently closed due to a causeway installation project, with no access expected until approximately October 2026. For full hookups, Sundermeier RV Park in historic St. Charles, Missouri, and the St. Louis NE/I-270/Granite City KOA Journey are the main private options within easy driving distance.
Most travelers use Jerseyville as a base for exploring the Illinois River bluffs, the Mississippi flyway, and downtown St. Louis on day trips from camp.
Things to do near Jerseyville
Outdoor activity centers on the river corridor. Pere Marquette State Park offers approximately 12 miles of marked trails for hiking, along with bluff overlooks, a boat launch onto the Illinois River, and public hunting land off Graham Hollow Road. The paved Sam Vadalabene Bike Trail runs along the Great River Road between Pere Marquette and Alton, with stops in Grafton along the way.
A wide variety of fish, including bluegill, catfish, crappie, largemouth bass, and white bass, attract anglers to the Illinois and Mississippi rivers. From Sundermeier RV Park in St. Charles, the Katy Trail State Park is adjacent to the campground for hiking and biking, and historic St. Charles shops and the Gateway Arch in St. Louis are within a short drive.

The main Illinois state-park camping season runs from spring through fall. At Horseshoe Lake State Park, the campground is open from May 1 to September 30, campers can stay a maximum of 7 days in a 30-day period, and reservations are not accepted for camping when the site is operating; note that the campground is presently closed for causeway work. At Pere Marquette, sites 2 through 30 in the Class A campground are available for reservation from May through October.
Summer brings hot, humid weather and the busiest camping weekends, especially around holidays. Fall is prime for color drives along the bluffs and generally has the most comfortable RV weather. Winter is quieter but notable: for many years the park has hosted tours of the river bluffs and woods to view wintering bald eagles, which gather in the hundreds along the Mississippi River and lower Illinois River near the park. Spring can be wet, and Mississippi and Illinois River flooding occasionally affects low-lying private sites near St. Charles.
How to book
Illinois state park campground reservations are made at ExploreMoreIL, the state DNR system used for Pere Marquette and Beaver Dam State Park. Reservations must be made three days before the arrival date, and can be made up to 180 days in advance. Horseshoe Lake State Park, when open, is walk-up only for individual sites, though group camping is handled through ExploreMoreIL.
Sundermeier RV Park takes reservations directly through its website or by phone. The St. Louis NE/I-270/Granite City KOA Journey is booked through the KOA website or app. For summer weekends and fall color weekends, reserve private parks and Pere Marquette Class A sites well in advance.
What to expect on site
Facilities vary widely. Pere Marquette's Class A campground has 80 sites with 20, 30, and 50 amp electric service, a sanitary dump station, drinking water, and a shower building; there are no full hookups. Firewood from outside Jersey County, Illinois, is not permitted. Horseshoe Lake State Park is primitive, with drinking water, vault toilets, and a dump station, no showers or hookups, and Class C camping available May 1 through September 30 in normal years.
Sundermeier RV Park offers 106 level concrete pads, 39 pull-throughs, true 30/50 amp electric service, cable TV, free Wi-Fi, picnic tables at each site, on-site propane, and a general store. It sits near active rail lines and interstate access, so light sleepers should pack accordingly. The Granite City KOA Journey offers standard KOA amenities and easy interstate access for travelers passing through the St. Louis area.

Good news for first-time renters: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Jersey County, Illinois. The State of Illinois does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any special endorsement for personal-use motorhomes or travel trailers, no matter the size. If a host cancels, RVezy refunds the guest or provides travel credits. Pro tip: book early to lock in the best rigs near Jerseyville, then confirm dates as your plans firm up. dnr.illinois.gov/parks/park.peremarquette.htmlCan the RV be delivered to my campsite in Jerseyville?
Yes, RV delivery in Jerseyville is one of the most popular options on the platform, especially for first-timers who'd rather skip driving a 30-foot rig down Route 67. Many local hosts will deliver and set up your motorhome rental in Jerseyville at Pere Marquette State Park, Lakeside RV Park in Grafton, or even a private property or driveway. They'll level the RV, hook up power and water, and walk you through the systems before handing you the keys. Delivery fees are usually based on mileage from the host's location and are shown clearly on the listing. Pro tip: filter by Delivery on RVezy and message two or three hosts at once to compare quotes for your exact campsite.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Jerseyville%2C%20IllinoisWhere are the best campgrounds near Jerseyville, IL?
You're spoiled for choice when it comes to RV camping in Jerseyville. Top picks within 30 minutes include Pere Marquette State Park Campground in Grafton (80 electric sites tucked under Illinois River bluffs), Lakeside RV Park in Grafton (full hookups with Mississippi River views), Pere Marquette Lodge area sites for an upscale feel, and Cuivre River State Park just across the Missouri line for a quieter alternative. For a small-town vibe, try Jellystone Park Pere Marquette nearby. Pro tip: Pere Marquette is the crown jewel and books up fast on summer weekends, reserve through the Illinois DNR Camp-IL system up to six months ahead, especially for Fall Color Caravan weekends in October.
dnr.illinois.gov/parks/park.peremarquette.htmlWhen is the best time of year for a Jerseyville RV trip?
Honestly, fall is magic here. Mid-September through late October brings 60 to 75 degree days, crisp nights, and the famous Great River Road foliage, plus the Pere Marquette Fall Color drive. Spring (April to early June) is the second sweet spot with 55 to 78 degree highs and bald eagles still lingering along the Mississippi through March. Summers in Jersey County are warm and humid (mid-80s to low 90s in July and August) but evenings cool nicely at the river. Winters dip into the 20s and 30s with occasional snow, so it's quieter but doable in a four-season rig. Pro tip: book your RV rental in Illinois for the first two weeks of October to catch peak color before the crowds.
weather.gov/lsx/I'm first time renting an RV, will I get help figuring it out?
You're in great hands. Every RVezy host in the Jerseyville area gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup or delivery, walking you through the generator, slide-outs, water tanks, propane, and dump procedures before you drive off. Many hosts also leave a printed cheat sheet or a short video link in the RV. You can message your host any time during the trip, and RVezy support plus 24/7 roadside assistance are a phone call away. Pro tip: ask the host to film a quick video of the dump and hookup steps during your walkthrough, you'll thank yourself the first night at Pere Marquette when you're setting up at dusk.
dnr.illinois.gov/parks/park.peremarquette.htmlWhat happens if I break down during my RV rental in Jerseyville?
You're covered around the clock. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so if you get a flat on Route 100 or the generator quits at Lakeside RV Park, one phone call gets help dispatched. The service handles towing, jump-starts, tire changes, lockouts, and fuel delivery throughout Jersey, Madison, and Calhoun counties. Your host is also a great first call for RV-specific questions like which fuse runs the fridge. Pro tip: save the RVezy roadside number in your phone before you leave, and snap a photo of the RV's VIN and license plate so you're ready if you ever need to call.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Jerseyville RV rental on a road trip to other states?
Yes, interstate travel is one of the best parts of an RV road trip from Jerseyville. You're perfectly positioned: St. Louis and the Gateway Arch are about 45 miles south, Hannibal, Missouri is about 70 miles northwest, Springfield and Lincoln country is about 80 miles northeast, Memphis is about 300 miles south down I-55, and Chicago is roughly 280 miles northeast. Most hosts welcome multi-state trips across the lower 48. Travel into Mexico is not allowed on RVezy rentals, and Canada trips depend on the individual host, so message them first. Pro tip: the Great River Road from Grafton north is one of America's most underrated RV routes, and you can be on it within 15 minutes of leaving Jerseyville.
enjoyillinois.com/explore/listing/great-river-road/What kind of fuel economy and gas budget should I plan for?
Budgeting is straightforward. Class C motorhomes around Jerseyville average 8 to 10 miles per gallon, Class A coaches 6 to 8 mpg, campervans 16 to 20 mpg, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (usually 10 to 14 mpg combined). Regular unleaded in Jersey County typically runs a bit below the national average thanks to nearby refineries in Wood River and Roxana. For a 4-day trip with about 400 miles of driving in a Class C, expect roughly $150 to $200 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up in Jerseyville or Alton before heading into Calhoun County, gas stations get sparse once you're north of Grafton on Route 100, and prices climb in the small river towns.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book a campground near Jerseyville?
For peak season, sooner is better. Pere Marquette State Park opens reservations six months in advance through the Illinois DNR Camp-IL online system, and summer weekends plus October Fall Color weekends fill the moment they open. Lakeside RV Park in Grafton and private parks usually take bookings 3 to 6 months out, with some sites available 2 weeks ahead mid-week. Spring (eagle-watching season) and fall foliage weekends are the toughest to grab. Pro tip: set a calendar reminder six months minus one day before your target arrival, log into Camp-IL at 7 a.m. Central, and have backup dates ready. For shoulder-season family RV trips in Jerseyville, you can often snag last-minute spots Sunday through Wednesday.
camp.exploremoreil.com/What are the local driving conditions like around Jerseyville?
Driving here is refreshingly easy compared to big-city RV trips. Jerseyville sits at the crossroads of US-67 and IL-16, both well-maintained highways with gentle terrain. The Great River Road (Route 100) hugs the Mississippi south through Grafton with stunning bluff views but a few tight curves, take it slow in anything over 28 feet. Watch for deer at dawn and dusk in Jersey and Calhoun counties, and check for occasional flooding on river-bottom roads in spring. The Clark Bridge in Alton provides a clear-height crossing into Missouri suitable for standard RVs. Pro tip: check IDOT's Getting Around Illinois map before heading out for current road conditions.
idot.illinois.gov/travel-information/road-conditions.htmlWhat amenities will I find at campgrounds near Jerseyville?
You'll find a great range. Pere Marquette State Park offers Class A electric sites (50/30 amp), a dump station, potable water fills, hot showers, and flush toilets. Lakeside RV Park in Grafton has full hookups (water, electric, sewer) at every site plus Wi-Fi. Most private parks in the area include laundry, picnic tables, and fire rings. Public dump stations are available at Pere Marquette and at several truck stops along I-55 near Hamel. Potable water fill-ups are easy at any state park entrance. Pro tip: top off your fresh tank in Jerseyville before heading into Calhoun County (north of Grafton), services thin out fast once you cross the Joe Page ferry or Brussels ferry into apple-orchard country.
dnr.illinois.gov/parks/park.peremarquette.htmlWhat's included inside a typical RV rental in Jerseyville?
Most rigs come fully road-ready. Expect a queen or king bed, bunk or convertible dinette sleeping options, a kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, sink, and basic cookware, plus a wet or dry bathroom with toilet and shower. Class C and Class A motorhomes around Jerseyville usually include a roof AC, furnace, generator or shore-power hookups, a flat-screen TV, and seatbelted seating for everyone sleeping aboard. Many hosts add outdoor chairs, a Bluetooth speaker, and starter supplies like toilet paper and dish soap. Wi-Fi varies, so plan on using your phone hotspot in the river valley where AT&T and Verizon signals are reliable. Pro tip: confirm the listing's seatbelt count matches your group before booking.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Jerseyville%2C%20IllinoisWhat add-ons can I get with my Jerseyville RV rental?
Plenty, and they make life easier. Popular add-ons from Jerseyville-area hosts include linen and towel packages ($25 to $75), kitchen kits ($25 to $50), generator usage ($3 to $5 per hour over the included allowance), portable grills, bike racks, kayaks (perfect for the Illinois River), camp chairs, and outdoor patio mats. Many hosts also offer pre-stocked propane and full-tank fuel returns. Pickup is typically at the host's home in or near Jerseyville, with delivery available to Pere Marquette, Lakeside RV Park, or your driveway. Mileage policies are shown on each listing. Pro tip: bundle linens plus a kitchen kit on your first trip, your RV rental in Illinois will feel turnkey from minute one.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Jerseyville%2C%20IllinoisHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure. You pay the full rental cost through RVezy at booking using a credit or debit card, no cash or e-transfers to the host. A refundable security deposit (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV class) is pre-authorized on your card before pickup and released after the trip once the host confirms the RV came back in good shape. To avoid any deposit issues on your Jerseyville campervan rental, do a thorough walkthrough video with the host at pickup and return, dump the tanks before drop-off if required, and refill fuel to the agreed level. Pro tip: keep all fuel and dump-station receipts as easy proof if any questions come up.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent an RV in Jerseyville in winter?
Yes, winter RVing here is a quiet, beautiful adventure. Several Jerseyville-area hosts keep their rigs available December through February, especially four-season trailers and Class C motorhomes with heated holding tanks, enclosed underbellies, and reliable propane furnaces. Winter temps run 20 to 40 degrees with occasional snow, and it's prime bald eagle viewing season along the Mississippi at the Audubon Center at Riverlands and the Melvin Price Lock and Dam in Alton. Many state park sites stay open with electric hookups, though water service may be shut off, plan to fill your fresh tank before arrival. Pro tip: ask the host specifically about heated tanks and shore-power capability, then book a site with 50-amp electric so you can run the furnace and a small space heater without tripping breakers.
