Campgrounds and RV parks near Lake Camelot, IL

Lake Camelot sits in central Illinois just west of Peoria, putting RV renters within a short drive of state park camping, a large state forest, and a mix of private resorts. The terrain in this stretch of the Illinois River valley is rolling and wooded, an unusual break from the row-crop country that surrounds it, and campgrounds here tend to fill up on summer weekends with families from Peoria, Bloomington, and the Quad Cities. Jubilee College State Park lies in Peoria County between Kickapoo and Brimfield, just off U.S. Route 150, with rolling topography and meandering Jubilee Creek. Woodchuck Ridge is the main RV loop there. To the south, the 7,200-acre Sand Ridge State Forest is located southwest of Peoria and is the largest forest in the state, with native oak-hickory woodlands, pine plantations, grasslands, and prairies, home to Oak Camp and Pine Camp. For renters who want hookups and resort amenities rather than primitive sites, Sankoty Lakes and Evening Star Camping Resort are the closest full-service options.

Illinois state park and state forest sites are reserved through the state system at Camp.ExploreMoreIL.com. That covers Woodchuck Ridge at Jubilee College State Park as well as Oak Camp and Pine Camp at Sand Ridge State Forest. Permits are required and can also be obtained on site from staff or the campground host. Reservations for camping spots at Sand Ridge State Forest are required, and campers can place reservations six months in advance and up to four days before the date of arrival. Aim to book summer weekends and holidays as soon as the window opens. Sankoty Lakes and Evening Star Camping Resort are booked directly through their own websites or by phone. Confirm rig length, hookup type, and pet rules at time of booking, especially for larger travel trailers and Class A motorhomes.
