Campgrounds and RV parks near Lake Villa, IL

Lake Villa sits in northern Lake County, Illinois, inside the Chain O' Lakes region, the state's largest concentration of natural lakes. The area is a water-focused RV destination roughly 60 miles northwest of Chicago and about 4 miles south of the Wisconsin border, giving renters easy access to both metros within an hour's drive. The anchor public campground is Chain O' Lakes State Park, which offers more than 230 sites across multiple loops. Turner Lake South - Chain O Lakes State Park is a Class B-Premium area with primitive-style sites near a 44-acre lake reserved for electric trolling motors, while nearby Class A-Premium loops like Honeysuckle Hollow and Fox Den handle larger rigs with electric hookups. Private options fill in around the state park: Grass Lake Marina and RV Park and Fox River Recreation both sit near Antioch, and Fish Lake Beach Camping Resort in Volo runs a lakefront property with full hookups. For renters willing to cross the state line, Kenosha County Fair Association in Wilmot, Wisconsin, adds a fairgrounds option just north of the border.

Illinois state park sites, including Turner Lake South - Chain O Lakes State Park and the park's Class A-Premium loops, are reserved through the state's official portal at camp.exploremoreil.com or by phone. A non-refundable reservation fee applies, and the maximum stay is 14 nights within any 30-day period. A responsible adult 18 or older must have a camp shelter set up at registration, and campers must bring firewood or buy it on site, since gathering wood in the park is not allowed. Private parks use their own systems. Fish Lake Beach Camping Resort takes reservations directly through its website and typically enforces a two-night minimum on weekends. Kenosha County Fair Association and Fox River Recreation are best booked through the operator's own contact channels. For summer weekends and holidays, reserve as early as the systems allow.
