Campgrounds and RV parks near Lewistown, IL

Lewistown sits in Fulton County in west-central Illinois, on a bluff above the Spoon and Illinois River valleys. The town is roughly 45 miles southwest of Peoria and about 60 miles northwest of Springfield, which puts most area campgrounds within a short drive of the highways connecting those cities. RV renters have a mix of public and private options nearby. Sand Ridge State Forest, the largest state forest in Illinois, covers about 7,100 acres of oak-hickory woods and pine plantations east of town across the Illinois River, and offers rustic camping at Pine Camp - Sand Ridge State Forest along with organized group sites at Oak Camp - Sand Ridge State Forest. Jubilee College State Park, about an hour northeast near Brimfield, holds the Woodchuck Ridge - Jubilee College State Park campground with electric sites and a shower building. Closer to Lewistown itself, Evening Star Camping Resort provides a private-park option within roughly a dozen miles, and Crazy Horse Campground rounds out the private choices in the area. Together these give renters a range from developed private loops to primitive state-forest sites.

Illinois state park and state forest campsites, including those at Sand Ridge State Forest and Jubilee College State Park, are reserved through the state's ExploreMoreIL system. Illinois state parks release campsite reservations 6 months in advance, and reservations must be made three days before the campsite is needed. Regular and group campsites require a non-refundable reservation fee paid at the time of booking. Equestrian-only camping at Jubilee is located on the north side of the park, is not reservable, and is handled by an on-site host or self-pay in winter. Private campgrounds such as Evening Star Camping Resort and Crazy Horse Campground take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone, and typically hold sites earlier for holiday weekends and the October Scenic Drive festival.
