Campgrounds near Mansfield, Illinois
Mansfield sits in east-central Illinois between Bloomington-Normal and Champaign-Urbana, giving RV travelers access to both state-run recreation areas and private RV parks within a short drive. The surrounding landscape is farmland and low glacial moraine, with two reservoir-based state parks providing the main outdoor draws.
Close-in options include Tin Cup RV Park in nearby Mahomet, which offers full-hookup pull-throughs off I-74, and D and W Lake Camping and RV Park on the west side of Champaign. For a small-town municipal option, South Park Municipal Campground provides basic sites at a lower cost tier.
For state-park camping, Clinton Lake State Recreation Area sits south of Mansfield on a 4,900-acre reservoir, and Moraine View State Recreation Area lies to the west near LeRoy, with Timberline Ridge - Moraine View State Recreation Area serving as the park's equestrian camping loop. Together these give RV travelers a mix of hookup convenience and lakefront state-park stays within roughly a 30-minute radius.
Things to do near Mansfield
The 4,900-acre Clinton Lake and its fishing are the primary draws, with boat launches, a swim beach open Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend, and hiking trails that follow the shoreline. The lake has no horsepower limit, so waterskiing and powerboating are popular alongside bank and pier fishing.
Moraine View State Recreation Area covers 1,687 acres with a 158-acre lake and developed facilities for picnicking, camping, hiking, swimming, fishing, boating, horseback riding, and hunting. More than 10 miles of bridle paths run along the Timberline Ridge Trail, and winter activities include snowmobiling, ice fishing, and skating when conditions allow.
Closer to town, Mahomet's Lake of the Woods Forest Preserve offers paddle boating, botanical gardens, and a golf course, while Champaign-Urbana adds museums, restaurants, and University of Illinois events within a 20-minute drive.

Central Illinois has a humid continental climate with cold winters and warm, humid summers. Peak camping runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day, when the Clinton Lake beach is open and state-park sites fill quickly on holiday weekends. Spring and fall are the most comfortable stretches for RV travel, though April through June bring the wettest weather of the year.
At Clinton Lake, showers and potable water are available from mid-April to November, weather depending, and Moraine View campground showers are closed roughly November through April. That effectively defines the practical full-service RV season at both state parks.
Winter camping is possible but limited. The Clinton Lake campground is open year-round with the exception of the full week prior to the first firearm deer season, when no entry is allowed in the Mascoutin area for a special hunt. Moraine View also stays open in winter, but snow and cold can disrupt access, so calling the park office before arrival is recommended.

How to book campgrounds near Mansfield
Illinois state-park campsites at Clinton Lake and Moraine View are booked through the state's central reservation system at ExploreMoreIL. Reservations must be made at least three days prior to the arrival date, and sites not reserved are considered first-come, first-serve. Full-hookup and lakeside loops sell out earliest for summer holiday weekends, so booking several weeks ahead is prudent.
Private parks handle their own reservations. Tin Cup RV Park takes bookings directly, and holiday weekends may carry a minimum-stay requirement. D and W Lake Camping and RV Park and South Park Municipal Campground also book directly through the operator. For equestrian campers, Timberline Ridge - Moraine View State Recreation Area should be reserved through ExploreMoreIL or by contacting the park office.
What to expect on-site
State-park sites in this area are typically gravel pads with a picnic table, fire ring or grill, and 30-amp electric. Moraine View's Class A sites include water, electricity, and a sanitary station in the campground, and Timberline Ridge horse camp has 30 Class A sites with water, electricity, and hitching racks. Clinton Lake offers a mix of Class AA full-hookup and Class A electric sites, with shower houses, restrooms, and a dump station.
Alcohol is prohibited in the Moraine View campground, and Clinton Lake loops H, I, J, and K are alcohol-free. Private parks like Tin Cup are more permissive and add amenities such as laundry and Wi-Fi. Larger rigs are generally better suited to Tin Cup RV Park or D and W Lake Camping and RV Park, both of which accommodate big-rig lengths with pull-through access.
